talam (p. 226) --ஸ்தலம், s. Place, site, position, location, space, room, இடம். 2. Holy place, a sacred shrine, தெய்வஸ்தலம். (See ஏழ்புரி.) 3. [prov.] A chief or principal place, as the metropolis, head quarters, the court, that part of a town where the authorities reside, &c., இராச தானி. 4. A region or part of the body. (See அடித்தலம்.) 5. Land under cultivation, commonly designated by some peculiarity, as having trees, hills, rocks, &c., பயிர்த்தலம். (c.) 6. The earth, பூமி. 7. The world in general, either of the fourteen worlds, உலகப்பொது. 8. A place of refuge, புகலிடம். 9. [in composition.] Identity, as பூதலம், the earth itself, கைத்தலம், the hand, செவித்தலம், the ear, கண்தலம், the eye, &c. தலத்திலேகாரியமேறிவிட்டது.
