ayr (p. 22) கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், அயர, v. a. To do, perform, execute, discharge duties, rites, &c., exercise, practise, செய்ய. In this meaning it seems commonly, associated with pleasant and gratifying sensations, as, விருந்தயர, to perform the rites of hospitality. 2. v. n. To faint, swoon, languish, தளர. 3. To lose the power of consciousness, as in faintness, drowsiness, sleep, &c., சோர. 4. To become weary, droop, இளைக்க. விளையாட்டயர்ந்தான். He has played. அவன்கண்ணயர்ந்ததைப்பார்த்து. Seeing him drowsy. (பஞ். 8.) அயரப்போட--அயரவிட, inf. To let rest for a better opportunity, as thieves, till persons are less on their guard, or as persons in a law suit. அயர்ந்தநித்திரை, s. aṟi (p. 33) கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், ய, v. a. To know, understand, comprehend, recognize, be acquainted with; have a carnal knowledge of, தெரிய. (c.) புத்தியறிந்தபெண். A marriageable girl. வல்லமையறிவோம். We will find out which is the most competent, (by way of bravado.) தன்னையறியுமறிவேயறிவாகும் பின்னையறிவது பேயறி வாமே. To know one's self is knowledge, other knowledge is inferior. அறிகருவி, s. The organs of sense. அறிகுறி, s. A sign, mark, token, symbol. அறிஞன், s. A man of knowledge, especially of divine things, அறிவுடையோன். 2. A poet, புலவன். 3. A sage, முனிவன். 4. Mercury the planet, புதன். 5. Buddha, புத்தன். அறிதுயில், s. A kind of sleep or meditation, in which the person understands all that passes about him--an attribute supposed to belong to the gods and sages, especially to Vishnu. அறிதுயிலமர்ந்தமூர்த்தி, s. Vishnu, திருமால். அறிமடம், s. Indisposition to reduce to practice what is learned. 2. Inability to recall to memory, stupidity in learned persons from infatuation. 3. Feigned ignorance. அறிமுகம், s. Acquaintance with persons (and in vulgar use) with things, slight familiarity. அறியக்கொடுக்க, inf. To inform against one, indict, impeach. 2. A wise, skilful or intelligent person. அறிவிலான்--அறிவிலி--அறிவில் லான்--அறிவீனன், s. An ignorant person, one without spiritual knowledge. அறிவில்லாமை--அறிவின்மை--அ றிவீனம், neg. v. noun. Ignorance. அறிவுகொடுக்க--அறிவுகொளுத்த, inf. To impart instruction, teach, instruct. 2. To allow a lucid interval, as to a dying person after a season of stupor, delirium, &c. அறிவுகொடுத்துக் கொல்லும். (Death, disease, &c.) will allow a lucid interval and then kill (him.) அறிவுசொல்ல, inf. To communicate instruction, give good advice, exhort. அறிவுடைமை, v. noun. Knowledge, the possession of knowledge. அறிவுணர்த்த--அறிவுபயிற்ற--அறி வுறுத்த, inf. To instruct, communicate instruction. அறிவுதிக்க, inf. To dawn as wisdom. அறிவுபிறக்க, inf. iruḷ (p. 51) s. Darkness, obscurity, அந் தகாரம். 2. A dark color, black, blackness, கறுப்பு. 3. (p.) Ignorance, mental delusion, stupor, உன்மத்தம். 4. An elephant, யானை. 5. Hell, நரகம். ஓவென்ற இருளாயிருக்கின்றது. There is total, absolute darkness. இந்தவீடிருளடைந்துகிடக்கிறது. This house is become dark; i. e. ruined. இருட்படலம், s. Wide-spread darkness. இருட்பரப்பு, s. An individual of a tribe of foresters or savages, மலையில்வாழுமோர்சாதியான். 2. The name of a devil, ஓர்பிசாசம். இருள்வலி, s. The sun, சூரியன். (p.) ஆரிருள், s. Complete darkness. காரிருள், s. īṉam (p. 58) s. Deficiency, want, privation, destitution, குறைபாடு. 2. Mutilation, அங்கவீனம். 3. Disgrace, degradation, meanness, இழிவு. 4. Detriment, injury, harm, கேடு. Wils. p. 976. HEENA.--Note. Affixed to other words, ஈனம் is a privative and gives them an opposite meaning. ஈனமானநாயைத்தோண்மேலெப்படிக்கொண்டுவரு கிறாய்? How can you carry a vile dog on your shoulders? கோடரிக்காம்புகுலத்துக்கீனம். The handle of an axe (being of wood) is inimical to its own species. [prov.] ஈனசாதி, s. Low or degraded caste, barbarous caste. ஈனமிலணங்கு, s. A goddess, தெய்வப்பெண். (p.) புத்தியீனம், s. Dullness, foolishness. புத்தியீனன், s. A foolish, unwise or stupid man.

[prov.] A pestle without a ferrule. உலக்கைக்கொழுந்து, s. (fig.) A stupid fellow who thinks a pestle may sprout, முசலகிசலம். உலக்கைசார்த்த, inf. To ruin, destroy. உலக்கைப்பாட்டு, s. Songs sung by women while pounding grain; a species of poetry in which the poet feigns females pounding grain and extolling a hero, வள்ளை. உலக்கைப்பூண், s. The iron ring of a pestle. உலக்கையாணி, s. The pin of a lock which passes into the hole of the key, பூட்டினடுவாணி. 81)

ūmṇai (p. 70) s. A person habitually silent, taciturn, unable to speak freely, பேசத்திறமில்லாதவன். 2. That which is defective, clumsily done, அழகில்லாதது. ஊமணைச்சட்டி, s. [prov.] A chatty not well baked in the kiln, mis-shappen, &c., and that does not conduct the heat well. ஊமணையன்--ஊமணாமூஞ்சி, s. [prov.] A stupid, sullen, pouting person, one with an ugly or forbidding countenance, அவலட்சணமுகத்தான். ஊமணையுரல், s. A bad-formed mortar, not well-formed in its waist, or centre. 5)
