kaṟpam (p. 102) s. The period of Brahma's life or one-hundred of his days and nights, பிரமனாயு. (சது.) 2. To inure the body to hardship-as ascetics, strengthening it with medicaments and by other means for promoting longevity, கற்பந்தின்ன. கற்பநாள், s. A kalpa of time. கற்பமுடிவு, s. The seventh from the rising sign at the moment of birth, portending the person's circumstances in respect of the wife (if it predict any), her disposition, wealth, longevity and other properties, ஏழாமிடம். 20)

cātaṉai (p. 175) s. W. p. 916. SA'DHANA. Steady and presevering practice, unwearied application, steady zeal, constancy, persistence in an opinion; steadfast maintenance of doctrines, &c., விடாதமுயற்சி. 2. Perfect imitation of life, appearance of reality--as in dramatic actions, நடித்துக் காட்டுகை. 3. Retaining malice, சலஞ்சாதிக் கை. 4. Dissimulation, misrepresentation, falsehood, பொய். (c.) இல்லையென்றொரேசாதனையாய்ச் சாதிக்கிறான். He obstinately persists in denying. சாதனைக்காரன், s. One who practises any dexterous act, சாதகம்பண்ணுகிறவன். 2. A dissembler, a hypocrite, மாமாலி. 3. A tenacious person; one who steadfastly maintains an opinion, or perseveres in a practice. சாதனைத்தீர்ப்பு, v. noun. Obstinately affirming or denying. (R.) சாதனைபண்ண, inf. To practise a dexterous art; to habituate one's self to austerities. 2. To dissemble thoroughly. 3. To imitate to the life. 4. To maintain an assertion, whether true or false, பிடிவாதஞ்செய்ய. கற்பசாதனை, s. Strengthening the body by the use of drugs, &c., to promote longevity. See கற்பம். யோகசாதனை, s. cirañcīvi (p. 185) s. (Com. சிரஞ்சிவி.) A long lived person, தீர்க்காயுளுடையோன்; [ex சிரம், a long time.] சிரஞ்சீவியாயிருப்பாய். May you be blessed with a long life--a polite expression of congratulation. சிரஞ்சீவிப்பட்டம், s. Longevity as a boon obtained from a deity. சிரஞ்சீவியர், s. The long lived, especially applied to seven ancients who are supposed to be still living, viz: 1. அசுவ த்தாமன், one born of a mare and brought up by a Rishi. 2. மாவலி, an Asura-a king who made a gift of the earth to Vishnu. 3. வியாசன், Vyasa, the reputed arranger of the Vedas and Puranas. 4. அனுமான், Hanuman, the most distinguished of the monkey chiefs in Rama's army. 5. விபீஷணன், the youngest brother of Ravana. 6. கிருபாசாரியன், a professor of archery, first teacher of the hundred and five Guru princes, described in the Bharata. 7. பரசுராமன், Vishnu in the sixth incarnation.--Note. When the Hindus bathe with oil, seven drops are first scattered on the ground in a row, for these seven persons, and joined together by running the finger over them; after which the finger with the oil attached, is applied to the head. This is supposed to promote longevity. 43)

tātu (p. 233) s. (Sa. Dha'tu.) A principle, constituent or elementary part in nature, பூதவணு. 2. (c.) Artery, nerve, pulse, muscle in common, நரம்பு. 3. Any of the seven constituent parts of the body, இரசமாதியேழு. 4. Any one of the five elements, மண்ணாதி யைந்து. 5. The filaments of a flower, பூந் தாது. 6. The தாதுமாதளை tree. (சது.) 7. Red ochre, காவிக்கல். 8. The root of a word in Sanscrit, சொற்பகுதி. 9. Any of the seven metals, பொன்னாதியேழு. (See உலோகம்.) 1. Mineral, a fossil, நிரசவஸ்து. 11. Semen, சுக்கிலம். 12. The tenth year of the Hindu cycle, ஓர்வருஷம். 13. Arsenic in its natural state, in distinction from that which is prepared. See சரக்கு.--Note. The seven constituents of the body, or சத்ததாது, are: 1. இரசம், serum. 2. இரததம், blood. 3. சுக்கி லம், semen. 2. மூளை. brains, marrow. 5. தசை, flesh. 6. எலும்பு, bone. 7. தோல், skin. தாதாட, inf. To dive into the pollen of flowers, as insects; [ex ஆட.] (p.) தாதுகட்ட, inf. To bind or cause absorption, or extinction of the seminal principle in the system, as ascetics; or to promote longevity. தாதுகலிக்க, inf. To be emitted as semen. தாதுநஷ்டம், s. Nocturnal pollution in sleep, by disease, &c. See ஸ்கலிதம். தாதுபார்க்க, inf. To feel the pulse. தாதுபுஷ்டி--தாதுவிருத்தி, s. A healthy state of the semen. (c.) தாதுமாதளை, s. A flowering pomegranate without fruit, பூமாதளை. தாதுமூலசீவன், s. [in divination.] A three fold division of nature, தாது denoting the mineral, மூலம், the vegetable and சீவன், the animal kingdoms, one of which is sent by an applicant to the diviner. தாதுரோகம், s.
