āṉṟl (p. 44) . An irregular defective noun. 1. Extension, width, breadth, being extensive, அகலம். 2. Greatness, vastness, dignity, being great, மாட்சிமை. 3. Abundance, copiousness, luxuriance, மிகுதி; [ex அகலல், extending.] (p.) ஆன்றகுணம், s. The highest quality. ஆன்றபுவி, s. The extended earth. ஆன்றவர்--ஆன்றார்--ஆன்றோர், s. Learned persons, the wise, poets, the great--as sages, &c., those who are great in moral excellence, சான்றோர். ஆன்றார்கேட்கிற்செவிபுதைக்கும். (Words so wicked that) the great will shut their ears against hearing them. (பாரதம்.) ஆன்றவொழுக்கு, s. Exalted virtue.

iṟuku (p. 57) கிறது, இறுகினது, ம், இறுக, v. n. To become tight--as a bandage, knot, &c., to be strained, be close, hard, compact, &c.--as land dried by the sun, அழுந்த. 2. To grow thick in consistency, to coagulate, to be inspissated, be clotted, உறைய. 3. To congeal, become hard--as wax, metals, &c., to become dry--as mortar, clay, &c., கட்டியாக. 4. To become firm--as a loose tooth, பெலக்க. 5. To be close, rich, luxuriant--as growing corn, fruitful trees, &c., செறிய. எண்மண்டையிறுகிப்போயிற்று. My head feels day (needing oil and bathing). சளியிறுகிற்று. The phlegm (in the throat) is become hard. இறுகக்கட்ட, inf. To brace or fasten tight, close, compact, &c., அழுந் தக்கட்ட. இறுகத்தழுவ, inf. To hug, embrace closely, இறுகவணைக்க. இறுகப்பிசைய, inf. To knead hard, make close by kneading, அழுந்தப்பி சைய. இறுகப்பிடிக்க, inf. To hold fast, grasp tight, அழுந்தப்பிடிக்க. 2. To be stingy, parsimonious, tenacious, செலவு செய்யாதிருக்க. இறுகவிறுக, [adverbially.] Very tight, drawn tighter and tighter, அழுந்த வழுந்த. இறுகினகை, s. Close-fistedness, parsimony, ஈயாதகை. இறுகினதேகம், s. A firm, compact body. இறுகினமனம், s. An unrelenting heart, a close or parsimonious mind. இறுக்கம், v. noun. Tightness, closeness, compactness, hardness, tenacity, அழுத்தம். 2. Closeness of weather, sultriness, ஒடுக்கம். 3. Parsimoniousness, niggardliness, tenaciousness, கையழுத்தம். 4. Strictness, rigidness, pressure, நெருக்கம். இறுக்கமானகாலம், s. Sultry weather. 2. Hard times. 23)

iḷai (p. 56) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. n. To tire, grow weary, be fatigued, exhausted, to languish, தொய்ய. 2. To grow emaciated, be lean, meagre, &c., மெலிய. 3. To be worn out with age, sickness, &c., to become decrepit, தளர. 4. To become poor, be worn out--as land by continued cultivation, want of manure, &c., சக்திகுறைய. 5. To grow weak and wanting in luxuriance or fruitfulness--as trees, rice, &c., to fade--as a color, வளங்குறைய. 6. To fail before a foe or rival, to yield to superior force, தோற்க. ஒருத்தனுக்கொருத்தனிளையான். One is not inferior to the other, one will not yield to the other (they will fight till they die, except they to parted). இளைத்தோய, inf. To be exhausted from over-exertion. இளைப்பு, v. noun. Weariness, fatigue, exhaustion, faintness, மெலிவு. இளைப்பறுதி, s. Recruiting, recovery from fatigue. இளைப்பாயிருக்க, inf. To be wearied. இளைப்பாற, inf. To rest, take rest, repose, இளைப்புத்தணிய. இளைப்பாறுமண்டபம், s. A room for rest or repose--1. For idols after a procession, before they are set in the usual place. 2. For kings, or other distinguished personages after journey. to wash their feet, &c. before entering their house, வசந்தமண்டபம். இளைப்பாற்ற, inf. To refresh, cause to rest, show civilities, &c. to travellers or weary persons, இளைப்பொழிக்க. வழியிளைப்பாற்ற, inf. To entertain and refresh travellers, offering them a seat, water to wash their feet, fanning them, &c. மன்றலந்தென்றல்வீசி வழியிளைப்பாற்றினாளே. She (the Ganges) refreshed them by causing the fragrant south wind to blow. (பாரதம்.) இளைப்பாற்றி, s. Rest, resting, repose, cessation, இளைப்புத்தணிகை. இளைப்புற, inf. To be fatigued, to grow weary. 10)

uttaṇṭam (p. 60) s. Impetuosity, fierceness, violence, உக்கிரம். 2. Boldness, daring confidence, energy, strenuousness, spirit, வீரம். 3. Power, authority, dignity of carriage and appearance, மகத்துவம். 4. Imperiousness, haughtiness, இராசசம். 5. Robustness, strength, வலிமை. உத்தண்டங்காட்ட. To be insolent, haughty. உத்தண்டமாகவதிகாரஞ்செலுத்த. To exercise authority proudly. உத்தண்டமாய்ச்சண்டைபண்ண. To combat with spirit. உத்தண்டமாய்ப்பேச. To speak frowardly, haughtily. உத்தண்டமாய்விளைய. oṇmai (p. 81) s. Good, goodness, excellence, நன்மை. 2. Brilliancy, splendor, brightness, ஒளி. 3. Beauty, அழகு. 4. Prudence, discretion, wisdom, அறிவு. 5. Flourishing, being luxuriant, rich, full, abundant, plump, மிகுதி. (பாரதி.) 6. Order, regularity, ஒழுங்கு; [ex ஒள்.] (p.) அரிதெனினுமொண்மையிற்றீர்ந்தொழுகலார். Those who swerve not from the path of virtue, although that path is difficult. (நீதிநெறி.) ஒண்கண், s. Dazzling eyes. ஒண்டொடி, s. She who is adorned with shining bracelets. See தொடி. ஒண்பொருள், s. Wealth gotten by equitable means. (வள்ளுவர்.)

koẕu (p. 146) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. n. To grow fat, to fatten, to become corpulent; to be full, plump, sleek, மதர்க்க. 2. To grow too luxuriantly, so as to be unproductive; to be rank, மதர்த்துத்தழைக்க. 3. To be too rich--as land, தழைத்துச்செழிக்க. 4. To be saucy, insolent, impertinent, மேட் டிமைகொள்ள. நண்டுகொழுத்தால்வளையிலிராது. A crab grown fat will not stay in its hole. கொழுத்தவன்கைக்கு இளைத்தவன் துரும்பு. A lean man in the hand of a fat man is like a straw. கொழுகொம்பு--கொழுக்கொம்பு, s. Sticks, poles, &c., for supporting climbing plants, கொடியேறுகொம்பு. 2. cṇppu (p. 157) s. [loc. vul.] Flax, hemp, as சணல். சணப்பநார், s. Fibres, or strings of flax. சணப்பன், s. A flax-dresser. சணப்பன்வீட்டுக்கோழிதானேவிலங்குமாட்டிக்கொ ண்டது. The hemp dresser's hen has entangled itself by scratching in the hemp-said of a person who involves himself in difficulties through his own folly. சணப்புத்திரி, s. A hempen wick or match.
