In the celebrated eighteen there are two of this class. the பிரமம், and the பதுமம். (சது.) பிரமப்பிரளயம், s. The deluge at the end of the life of Brahma, பிரமனாயுள்முடி வில்வரும்பிரளயம். பிரமமணம், s. One of the eight modes of marriage. See மணம். பிரமமுனி--பிரமரிஷி, s. A Rishi of the Brahman caste, as most of them are. பிரமமூலி, s. A medicinal plant. See பிரமி. பிரமயாகம், s. One of the five யாகம், எச்சமைந்தினொன்று. பிரமயோனி, s. The birth, origin, or extraction of a brahman, பிராமணப்பிறப்பு. பிரமரட்சு, s. A savage man of a monstrous size, பருத்தமுருடன். பிரமரந்திரம், s. The tender part of the crown of the head where the bone is not formed in infancy, and through which it is said the soul of a yogi departs when he chooses to die, உச்சித்துவாரம். பிரமராட்சதன், s. A goblin or savage animated by the soul of a brahman, who in a former birth died with unexpiated sin. பிரமராட்சதி-பிரமராட்சதை, s. The ghost of a brahmani who having died a violent death appears in the form of a demon, inhabiting trees and possessing all the knowledge previously obtained, பார்ப் பாரப்பெண்பேய். பிரமலிபி, s. The writing of Brahma in the forehead of all persons before birth; fate, destiny. See தலைஎழுத்து. பிரமலிபிதப்பாது. The writing of Brahma will not fail. பிரமலோகம், s. The world and heaven of Brahma, being the seventh and highest of the seven upper worlds, also called சத்தியலோகம். (சது.) பிரமவமிசம், s. Lineage in succession from Brahma. 2. The race of brahmans, பிராமணசாதி. பிரமவாதம், s. The religious tenets of the Vedas considered systematically, வேதமதம். பிரமவித்து, s. One of the four grades of those who pursue a true and perfect knowledge of the deity, நால்வகைமுத்தரி லொருவன். பிரமவிந்து--பிரமபிந்து. s. The seed, or progeny of a brahman, &c., பிராமணவிந்து. 2. One of the thirty-two Upanishads. See உபநிடதம். பிரமனாள், s. The fourth lunar asterism, உரோகிணி. (சது.) பிரமன்--பிரமா, s. Brahma of the Triad, as creator, progenitor or evolver of worlds and creatures, நான்முகன். பிரமன்--பிரமா, s. Brahma of the Triad, as creator, progenitor or evolver of worlds and creatures, நான்முகன். பிரமன்றந்தை, s. Vishnu as father of Brahma, விஷ்ணு. பிரமாஞ்சலி, s. A form of worship in which the two hands are joined, and placed at the breast. பிரமாட்சரம், s. A letter which is the origin of all letters, and the prime root of all prayers and incantations, மூலவெ ழுத்து. பிரமாண்டம், s. The system of worlds, as created by Brahma, உலகம். 2. One of the eighteen Puranas, பதினெண்புரா ணத்தொன்று. 3. [fig.] That which is large, gigantic, huge, colossal, காத்திரம். (usage.) பிரமாண்டநாயகன், s. Lord of the universe, கடவுள். 2. An epithet used in praise, or compliment, சக்கரவர்த்தி. பிரமாத்திரம்--பிரமாஸ்திரம், s. A famous arrow of supernatural qualities, given by Brahma to some, who had practised extraordinary austerities. பிரமாந்தரம், s. Certain parts of the body regarded as stations of the soul, உயிர்நிலை. பிரமாயு, s. The age of Brahma, as பிர மகற்பம்; [ex ஆயு.] பிரமாயுதம், s. A number, one million, பத்திலட்சம். (சது.) பிரமாரண்ணியம், s. The name of a town called வேதாரண்ணியம். பிரமாலயம், s. The house of a brahman. பிரமானந்தம், s. Heavenly bliss, or felicity, as பரமானந்தம். பிரமோத்தரகாண்டம், s. The last section of chapter of the Brahma Purana, added by the Saivas concerning Gokarnam, பிரமபுராணத்துக்கடைக்காண்டம். பிரமோற்சவம், s. An annual grand festival at a pagoda. 3) *

makā (p. 338) adj. Great, high, exalted, dignified, noble, honorable, பெருமையான. 2. Immense, prodigious, stupendous, monstrous, extreme, அளவற்ற. 3. Superior, greater, paramount, superlative, உயர்ந்த. 4. Intense, மிகுந்த.--Note. This particle is sometimes repeated to express intensity, as மகாமகாப் பட்ட, the greatest. (Beschi.) Also sometimes contracted to மக, and மா, as மகராசா, மாசனங்கள்; [ex மகத்து.] அதுமகாஅரிது. It is very difficult. அதுமகாஅபூர்வம். It is very rare. மகராசன், s. A king, அரசன். 2. A rich or great or good man, சீமான். மகராசா, s. The king, the sovereign. மகராசி, s. A rich or benevolent lady; (lit.) a queen. மகரிஷி, s. An exalted Rishi, மகாரிஷி. மகாஅவதானி, s. A person who has excellent memory. மகாகருவம்--மகாகர்வம், s. Much arrogance. 2. Ten billions. மகாகற்பம், s. The great Kalpa, consisting of a vast period, probably the life time of Bramha, or 155,52,,, solar years, after which there will be a universal destruction.--Note. By analogy it would be only 1 கற்பம் of 4,32,, each or 43,2,, years; but கற்பம் is used very indefinitely. மகாகாசம்--மகாகாயம், s. The air, or ether at large; as distinguished from கடாகாசம், or air in a pot, the atmosphere, பெருவெளி. மகாகாலம், s. A great and long period of time, sometimes used for eternity, நெடுங்காலம். மகாகிதி--மகாக்ஷிதி, s. A certain number, one thousand trillions. மகாகோணி--மகாக்ஷோணி, s. Ten trillions. மகாகோரம், s. A division of hell, or Tartarus, நரகத்தினோரிடம். மகாசகை, s. A plant bearing an unfading flower, Gomphr&oe;na globosa, வாடா மல்லிகை. W. p. 652. MAHASAHA. மகாசங்கம், s. A hundred billions. 2. As மகாநாடு. மகாசங்காரம், s. The universal destruction. மகாசத்தி, s. The great and universally pervading female energy of deity. மகாசமுத்திரம், s. A number, usually one-hundred billions. 2. Head quarters, the chief place, the court, நீதிஸ்தலம். மகாஞானி, s. One who has attained to the highest degree of religion. மகாண்டு, s. The Hindu cycle of sixty years; [ex ஆண்டு.] மகாதலம், s. The sixth of the nether worlds. See கீழுலகம். 2. As மகாஸ்தலம். மகாதிசை, s. Aggregate influence of the planets, counted according to the natal asterism for the horoscope. மகாதீவு, s. The Maldive islands, said to have been, in ancient times, one island. மகாதேவன், s. God, கடவுள். 2. Siva --as supreme, சிவன். 3. Epithet of god among various votaries, தெய்வம். 4. A god of the sea or waters, வருணன். மழையும்பிள்ளைப்பேறும்மகாதேவருக்குந்தெரியாது. Rain and child-birth are mysterious even to the gods. மகாதேவி, s. Parvati as the great goddess, பார்வதி. மகாதோஷம், s. Very great sin. மகாதோரை, s. A large number, ஓரெண். மகாத்தியாகம், s. [appel. n. மகாத்தியாகி.] Total and absolute abandonment of secularities, for abstract devotion and ultimate union with the deity. மகாத்துமா, s. [com. மகத்துமா.] An excellent man, (lit.) a great soul. மகாத்துமாக்களுடையலீலை, s. Superhuman exploits of Rishis. See இலீலை. மகாநசம். See மகானசம். மகாநவமி, s. The ninth phasis of the increasing moon in the month of September. See ஆயுதபூசை. மகாநாடு, s. The great council of a nation. மாநாடுகூடுதல், v. noun. Assembling --as the chiefs of a nation. மகாநிகற்பம், s. An inconceivable length of time, probably one-thousand கற்பம். மகாநிதி, s. One of Kuvera's treasures. See நிதி. மகாநுபாவன், s. [com. மானபாவன்.] An illustrious person. 2. A magnanimous liberal man. W. p. 649. MAHANUB'HAVA. 3. One who has advanced to the highest degree in religion, மகாத்துமன். மகாபதுமம், s. Great enjoyment, enjoyment of affluence and luxury. மகாப்பிரகாசசத்தி, s. Mica, as அப் பிரகம். மகாப்பிரதோஷம், s. The thirteenth evening from the new and full moon, a time in which the Saivas, expect particular benefits from their religious exercises. See பிரதோஷம். மகாப்பிரபு, s. A very great, illustrious, or holy person. மகாப்பிரபுக்கள்சபை, s. House of lords. (adopted.) மகாப்பிரளயம், s. The great deluge which destroys the universe at the end of each great Kalpa See பிரளயம். 2. (fig.) A number, ஓரெண். மகாமகம், s. [com. மாமகம்--colloq. மாமா ங்கம்.] The occurrence of the full moon in or about the asterism, மகம், with other astronomical incidents, which occur once in twelve years. Peculiar rites in honor of Siva, are then performed. The time is auspicious for bathing, especially at Combaconum. மகாமண்டபம், s. An open large court of temple, the fourth from the shrine. மகாமந்திரம், s. [com. மூலமந்திரம்.] An appropriate name of Deity. மகாமந்திரமூர்த்திகள், s. A class of souls of a superior order, consisting of seventy-five millions. Of these, thirty-five millions attain liberation when the work of creation is finished. மகாமந்திரி, s. The prime minister. மகாமாயி--மகாமாரி, s. [com. மகமாயி.] A name of Durga, துர்க்கை. மகாமாயை, s. Mother of the king of the Asuras, சூரபன்மன்தாய். 2. As மாமாயை. மகாமிருகம், s. The elephant, யானை. மகாமுத்திரை, s. One of the symbols of the Yoga system, யோகமுத்திரை. மகாமுனி--மகாரிஷி, s. A great Muni. 2. A name of Agastya, அகஸ்தியன். மகாமேரு--மகமேரு, s. The great Meru, or golden mountain, thought to be in the middle of the Central continent. மகாயக்கியம்--மகாயாகம், s. The first order of sacrifices. It is of five kinds; 1. பிரமம், or வேதமோதல், reading and learning Vedas; 2. தெய்வம், or ஓமம்வ ளர்த்தல், kindling a sacrificial fire; 3. பூதம், or பலியீதல், fragments of food left at an oblation; 4. பிதிர், or தர்ப்பணமுடித் தல், presenting water to the manes of persons deceased; 5. மானுடம், or இரப் போர்க்குணவீதல், gifts to beggars. மகாயுகம், s. The great age, the aggregate of the four ages, 4,32, years. மகாயோசனை, s. A large number. மகாரணியம், s. A very large forest, பெருங்காடு; [ex ஆரணியம்.] மகாரதன்--மாரதன், s. The rising of the sun and moon in conjunction, on a Monday, the sun being in Capricorn, in the month of January, and the moon in the twenty-second lunar asterism, in the seventh யோகம்--regarded as a most auspicious moment for sacred bathing; such is called மகோதயதீர்த்தம்.
