nāṇm (p. 273) s. Delicacy, modesty, shyness, as one of the four feminine qualities. See நற்குணம் under குணம். 2. Bashfulness of some relations toward each other as of the mother-in-law toward her sonin-law, the father-in-law towards his daughter-in-law, &c., சிறுநாணம். 3. Slight embarrassment, in the presence of a stranger or a superior; delicate regard, esteem or respect, அச்சம். 4. Yielding, as a disease to its antidote; shying--as some beasts, or shrinking--as some plants from the touch, கூச்சம். (c.) நாணங்கெட்டவன், appel. n. A man devoid of shame. நாணக்கேடு, v. noun. Impudence, immodesty, shamefulness. நாணப்படுதல், v. noun. Being shamefaced, bashful, modest, &c., வெட்கப்படுதல். அவருடையசொல்லுக்கு இவன்நாணப்படுவான். He has respect for the gentleman's word. 76) *
