The initiation of the pupil into the mysteries of his religion, சமயாசாரவுபதேசம். 4. A form of secret instruction, incantations, &c., given by the Guru to his disciple, on his admission into any of the four stages or degrees, மந்திரோபதேசம். Wils. p. 154. UPADESHA. குரூபதேசந்தவறாதவன். One who deviates not from the instructions of his Guru. உபதேசகலை, s. That portion of the Vedas which treats of the divine attributes, operations, &c. He has gone away unseen and unheard. கேளாதகேள்வி, s. A question not to be asked; indecent, unbecoming language. சொற்கேட்க, inf. To obey one's word; to be obedient. நூல்கேட்க, inf. To read a book, or learn a science under a teacher. புராணங்கேட்க, inf. To hear the Puranas--as at a temple. பெண்கேட்க, inf. To solicit a girl of her friends in marriage. பொருள்கேட்க, inf. Inquiry into; superintendence, control, management. கேள்வியாக, inf. To be heard, to be reported; to reach the ears--as news; to be heard in court. கை கைகாட்டு, v. noun. Gesture with the hand, as in dancing; beck of the hand. கைகுவிக்க, inf. To hold up the hands joined, in worship, &c. See குவி. கைகுறண்ட, inf. To have the hands bent by spasms. 2. To be cramped in the hands. 3. To be stingy, parsimonious, close-fisted. கைகூச, inf. To be backward in using the hand. See கூசு. கைகூட, inf. To come to hand, be obtained, to succeed, அனுகூலப்பட. அவன்செய்வதெல்லாம் அவனுக்குக் கைகூடும். All that he does prospers. கைகூப்பு, v. noun. Raising the joined hands in worship--as கூப்பு. 2. The distance from the tip of the fingers to the feet, when the hands are joined and raised above the head. கைகொட்ட, inf. To clap the hands. கைகோக்க, inf. To clasp one another's hands, to join hands. 2. To be arm in arm, to take another's arm. கைகோத்தாட, inf. To dance with arms linked. கைகோள், s. A course of conduct, especially in love affairs. (அகப்பொ.) கேள்வி, v. noun. The grand subjects of information under four heads; 1. அ றம், virtue or a virtuous course of action; all knowledge relating to the nature or practice of virtue, or having virtue as its object, including religion, jurisprudence, ethies and every thing connected with the well-being of society, and the promotion of universal benevolence towards all sentient beings. This is subdivided into, 1. இல்லறம், the duties and usages of man--as a member of society. 2. துறவறம், the duties and practices of the recluse, who renounces social life and retires to the desert. 2. பொருள், wealth, property, substance; truth; all kinds of knowledge relating to the nature, acquisition and uses of learning and wealth--including. 1. கல்விப்பொருள், general knowledge, and science. 2. செல் வப்பொருள், property, trade, commerce and the various occupations for gain or the support of life. 3. இன்பம், delight, gratification, knowledge of the nature and means of pleasure and bliss--especially love and matrimony. 4. வீடு, liberation from births, knowledge relating to final emancipation or eternal felicity. --Note. Another classification makes five parts, the fifth embracing the practice of the rules laid down for the attainment of the benefits implied in the four. 72)

Areca-nut, betel-nut, துவர்க் காய், Areca catechu.--The different preparations of areca-nuts are அலகுபாக்கு or சாலியம்பாக்கு, களிப்பாக்கு, கொட்டைப்பாக்கு, வெட் டைப்பாக்கு, கூர்சீவினபாக்கு, தெற்கம்பாக்கு, ஆரங் கம்பாக்கு. பாக்களவு, s. The measure of an areca-nut--small, as to space, time, &c. பாக்களவுகொடுப்பேன். I will, give as much as an areca-nut will hold. பாக்கிடிக்க, inf. As பாக்குத்துவைக்க. பாக்கிலை, s. As பாக்குவெற்றிலை. (R.) பாக்குக்கக்கல், v. noun. [prov.] Chewed betel cast from he mouth. பாக்குக்கடிக்கிறநேரம், s. The measure of time, in which an areca-nut is bitten, meaning quickness. பாக்குக்கட்ட, inf. [prov.] To play with areca-nuts. பாக்குக்கண், s. The eye of an arecanut. பாக்குக்குலை, s. A bunch of arecanuts. பாக்குச்சாரம், s. Juice or essence of areca-nut, betel, &c. பாக்குச்சீவ, inf. To pare and cut in slices an areca-nut, for use. பாக்குச்சீவல்--பாக்குச்செதிள்--செதில், s. Areca-nut parings. பாக்குச்செருக்கல், v. noun. Being dizzy from chewing stupifying arecanuts. See செருக்கு, v. பாக்குத்தம்பலம், s. Chewed betel as spit out. 2. The red spittle of betel. பாக்குத்துவைக்க, inf. To pound areca-nut, betel-leaf, &c., in a mortar for old people. பாக்குப்பறித்தல், v. noun. Snatching betel-nut from the friends of the bridegroom, by a rival lover, at the bride's house; deemed an insult similar to taking away the bride. பாக்குப்பிளவு, s. A slice or arecanut. பாக்குப்புரையேற, inf. To cough from obstructions in the throat, in chewing the areca-nut. பாக்குப்பை--பாக்குவெற்றிலைப்பை, s. A betel-pouch. பாக்குப்போட, inf. To take betel, as தாம்பூலம்போட. பாக்குவெட்டி, appel. n. A kind of scissors for cutting areca-nuts in slices. பாக்குவெற்றிலை, s. Areca-nut, and betel. See பாக்குப்பை. பாக்குவெற்றிலைக்கூட்டு, s. See கூட்டு. பாக்குவைக்க, inf. [also தாம்பூலம் வைக்க.] To invite persons to a wedding by sending them a present of areca-nuts and betel. 12)

(Beschi.) in computation, where the numbers are of the same kind, and the integers and fractions each one வினா, as 1 is one வினா, 1?? two வினா; 1?? 1/4 that is an integer with two fractions is three வினா. அதெனக்குவினாவில்லை. I don't remember it. அவனுக்குவினாப்போதாது. He has not sufficient discretion. வினாவோடேகேள். Hear with attention. தேவினாமூர்த்தம், s. Interrogation, a query, a problem. வினா, 5., There are according to சது. five special categories, in questioning; 1. அறியான்வினாவல், asking what one does not know; 2. அறிவொப்புக்காண்டல், seeking to learn whether another's knowledge agrees with one's own; 3. ஐயமறுத்தல், clearing up of doubts; 4. அவனறிவுதரன் கோடல், learning what the other knows; 5. மெய்யவற்குக்காட்டல், discovering the truth.--According to Nannul these are அறிவினா, அறயாவினா,ஐயவினா, கொளல்வினா, கொ டுத்தல்வினா, ஏவும்வினா. வினாக்குறிப்பு, s. [in gram.] An interrogative pronoun, especially, எவன் and ஆர். வினாப்பெயர், s. An interrogative pronoun. வினாவறிபருவம், s.
