[prov. impr. for பம்பு.] To cover thickly as a mass of motionless clouds, overspreading the heavens, obscuring the rays of the sun, &c., மூட. 3. iruḷ (p. 51) s. Darkness, obscurity, அந் தகாரம். 2. A dark color, black, blackness, கறுப்பு. 3. (p.) Ignorance, mental delusion, stupor, உன்மத்தம். 4. An elephant, யானை. 5. uṭai (p. 59) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To break a vessel, &c.; to burst, break open, break a bank, &c.; to break lumps, clods, &c.; to break a boil, a blister, the skull or any other flat, solid or massive substance; to split, fracture, தகர்க்க. 2. To break the ranks of an enemy, to defeat, discomfit, disperse, rout, put to flight, இரிக்க. 3. To ruin, impoverish one, கெடுக்க. 4. To untwist, untwine, முறுக்கவிழ்க்க. 5. v. n. To break--as a boil, கட்டியுடைக்க.-Note. உடைய and உடைக்க are not applicable to the breaking of a tree, a branch, an arm or any other long and cylindrical body that is broken off short or asunder. For this meaning see முரிக்க, ஒடிக்க, &c. தண்ணீருடைத்துப்பாய்கிறது. The water has broken (the dam) and flows out. பல்லுடைப்பேனென்றான். He said, I will break your teeth. கட்டுடைக்க, inf. To burst an embankment--as water. பெண்மையுடைக்கும்படை, s. The weapon that dissolves female continency. தலையுடைக்க, inf. To take much pains, mentally--as in abstruse calculations, intricate business. உடைப்பு, v. noun. A breaking, a breach, the bursting of a bank, உடை க்கை. 2. s. A channel out or broken through a dam in a field, disruption, உடைந்தஅறுவாய். 3. Weakness, தளர்ச்சி. தலையுடைப்பு, v. noun. A trouble, some intricate employment. 102)

urukku (p. 65) கிறேன், உருக்கினேன், வே ன், உருக்க, v. a. To melt with heat--as metals, or other congealed substances, to dissolve, liquify, fuse, run, தீயிற்கரைக்க. 2. To reduce one as a disease, to emaciate, வாட்ட. 3. To afflict, distress, வருத்த. (சத. 21.) இன்சொல்லிறைநெஞ்சுருக்கினான். By sweet speech, he melted the heart of the divinity. (சிவசிவ.) வியாதிசரீரத்தையுருக்கிப்போட்டது. The disease has emaciated him. எத்தனையுருக்கிலேயுருக்கினான்? How many times did it take to melt it? நன்னாளிற்பொன்னுருக்கு. Melt gold on an auspicious day. உருக்கிச்சாய்க்க, inf. To cast or run metals in bars, in mass, &c. for further use. உருக்கிவார்க்க, inf. To cast, found, to run metals. உருக்குகாரம், s. Borax, வெண் காரம். உருக்குப்பிரமியம், s. Gonorrh&ae;a with a discharge of blood, இரத்தப்பிர மியம். உருக்குமணி, s. Solid globules of gold soldered together around a ring and worn by women as an ear-pendent, ஓராபரணம். எலும்புருக்கி, s. An emaciating disease, ஓர்வியாதி. உருக்கு, v. noun. Fusion, melting, liquifaction, உருக்குகை. உருக்கன், s. [prov.] An emaciating or stinting disease--as of men or plantains, &c., ஓர்நோய். உருக்கனடித்தல், v. noun. Stinting or blighting--as disease especially in plantains. உருக்கினம், s. A kind of arsenic, அஞ்சனபாஷாணம். 2. Any thing that facilitates the fusion of metals--as borax. புத்துருக்குநெய், s. ulōkam (p. 66) s. The world, the earth, any of the fabulous worlds of Hindu mythology, உலகம். 2. Worldliness, earthliness, secularity, உலகத்துக்கடுத்ததன்மை. Wils. p. 723. LOKA. 3. Metal--as iron, &c. Five simple metals are given in the native lexicons--gold, silver, copper, iron, and lead or tin, பஞ்சலோகம். Wils. p. 725. LOHA. To these are sometimes added two mixed metals--as வெண்கலம், a mixture of copper and tin, making bell-metal, &c., and தரா, a compound of copper and zinc, or pinchbeck, &c. உலோகக்கட்டி, s. A mass of metal composed of the five kinds in equal proportions, பஞ்சலோகக்கட்டி. (நிக.) உலோகதாது, s. A kind of arsenic, துத்தபாஷாணம். உலோகபற்பம், s. [as அயவெள் ளை.] Iron reduced to a medicinal powder. உலோகபாலன், s. A king, அர சன். Wils. p. 724. LOKAPALA. உலோகபேதம், s. Difference, or variety of worlds--one of the six kinds of பேதம்; which see. உலோகமணல், s. Iron-sand. உலோகமலை, s. A mountain of iron or metals. உலோகரட்சகன், s. A preserver or protector of the world, உலகத்தைக்காப்ப வன். 2. An appellative of Vishnu--as preserver, விட்டுணு. உலோகராட்டு, s. The Sovereign of the world; i. e. God, கடவுள். உலோகரூடம், s. Custom or fashion of the world, உலகவழக்கம். உலோகாதியந்தம், s. The beginning and end of the world. உலோகாதீதம், s. That which transcends the world, which is supermundane. உலோகார்த்தம், s. Secular advantages, இலௌகீகநயம். 2. Benefit to the world, public good, உலகத்தாருக்குவரு நயம். உலோகோத்தரம், s. Excellence, elegance, that which is liked by every one. உலோகோயம், s. The tract of country lying south of the Himalaya and north of Ramisseram, இமையமலைக்கு மிராமேசுரத்துக்குமிடையேயுள்ளதேசம். பஞ்சலோகம், s. The five simple metals. See உலோகம், 3. சத்தலோகம், s. ūṟu (p. 71) கிறது, ஊறினது, ம், ஊற, v. a. To spring, flow as water in a well, to issue, நீரூற. 2. To soak, to be steeped, pickled, காய்முதலியவூற. 3. To ooze through, percolate, filter, distil, கசிய. 4. To run or spread--as ink in paper, as dampness in land around a spring; to become moist, மைமுதலியவூற. 5. To form, become collected--as milk in the breast, toddy in palm flowers, &c., பால்முதலியனசுரக்க. 6. To form as raw flesh in a sore, to heal, காயத்திலூன்வளர. 7. To increase--as flesh in a person who has been wasted by disease, to increase by slow degrees, மெலி ந்தவுடல்தேற. (c.) தொட்டளைத்தூறுமணற்கேணிமாந்தர்க்குக் கற்றனைத் தூறுமறிவு. The more you dig in a sandy soil the more does the water spring forth; so the more you apply to science the more your knowledge will increase. கற்கவூறுங்கலைஞானம். By learning, knowledge is increased. இறைத்தகிணறூறும்இறையாக்கிணறூறாது. Water issues from the springs of a well constantly drawn, but from one not drawn, it ceases to do so; i. e. the more one gives, the more will be given to him. ஊறணி, s. A fountain, a spring of water, ஊற்று. 2. [prov.] Good, moist land where water oozes out, கசிவுநிலம். 3. Wet, marshy, or brackish lands, சேற்று நிலம். 4. Income, property stored up, வருவாய் (probably a corruption of ஊ றுநீர்). ஊறவூறக்கறக்க, inf. To milk the cow as fast as the milk forms. 2. To obtain money from a person as fast as he gets it. ஊறவைக்க, inf. To steep, pickle, imbue, macerate. ஊறுகாய், s. Pickled fruits, அடை காய். ஊறுநீர், s. Spring-water, ஊற்று நீர். ஊறுபுண், s. A healing wound, ஆறிவரும்புண். தேனூறுமலர், s. The honey forming flower. ஊறல், v. noun. Oozing as from a sore, &c., percolation, discharge, issue, ஊறுகை. 2. s. A small spring, springwater, ஊற்று. 3. A tincture, infusion, &c., மருந்திலூறல். 4. A taint, or faint mixture of another metal, பஞ்சலோகக்கலப்பு. 5. One's income acquisition, property amassed, &c., வருவாய். 6. A slight degree of verdigris, களிம்பு. ஊறற்பாக்கு, s. Betel-put soaked to render it fit for use. ஊறற்றாள், s. Sinking paper.

oṭṭm (p. 81) s. A conical mass left uncut by well or tank-diggers to show the depth excavated, தோண்டலள்வைத்தி டர். (இராமா.) 2. Agreement, stipulation, contract--as in wagers, rivalry, சபதம். 3. A wager, forfeit, பந்தயம். 4. Emulation, rivalry, vieing, opposition--as at an auction, &c., இகலாட்டம். 5. A tile, ஓடு. 6. A country, ஓர்தேயம். ஒட்டமொட்ட--ஒட்டம்வைக்க, inf. To lay a wager. ஒட்டர், s. The inhabitants of the ஒட்டம் country. 2. (fem. ஓட்டத்தி or ஒட்டச்சி.) A caste of well-diggers, diggers of tanks, rivers, ditches, &c., sappers and miners, மண்வேலைசெய்வோர். மண்ணொட்டர், s. Men who build mud walls. கல்லொட்டர், s. Men who build stone walls. 57)

kṉ (p. 102) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To be heavy, to become heavy, massive, solid, thick, hard, injurated, பாரமா யிருக்க. 2. To be thick, close, crowded, numerous, பருக்க. 3. To be abundant, copious, to outweigh, &c., அதிகரிக்க; the infinitive used adverbially expresses very much. கனக்கக்கொடுத்தான். He gave plentifully. கனத்தஉடைமைக்கனர்த்தமில்லை. Solid property will not soon be injured. காரியங்கனத்துக்கொண்டது. The matter has become more serious. குற்றங்கனத்துக்கொண்டது. The crime is aggravated. குரல்கனத்துப்போயிற்று. The voice is become heavy, hoarse--as of one who has reached manhood, one who drinks liquor, &c. கனத்தஆக்கினை, s. Severe punishment. கனத்தகுடி, s. An illustrious and noble family. கனத்தசமுசாரம், s. A numerous family. கனத்ததோல், s. Thick skin--as that of a beast or of the hand, &c., hardened and thickened by labor. கனத்தநாள், s. A critical day in diseases--as the day of new or full moon, &c., when the influence of the planets is unusually powerful, aggravating disease, &c. On such days it is deemed improper to bathe, take medicine, &c. (c.). கனத்தபயிர், s. A thick crop. கனத்தபனி, s. A heavy dew. கனத்தமனிதன், s. A large heavy man. சரீரங்கனத்துக்கொள்ள, inf. To become heavy--as the body, by disease, humors, corpulency, &c. தலைகனத்துக்கொள்ள, inf. To grow heavy--as the head through cold. வயிறுகனத்துக்கொள்ள, inf. To have indigestion. 2. To eat a belly-full, to be well stuffed. 3. To become gravid; sometimes in this meaning, spoken in contempt, of pregnancy from illicit intercourse. கனப்பு, v. noun. [vul.] Thickness, becoming thick, கனம். 2. Weight, heaviness, solidity, gravidity, பாரம். 3. The hardness of a swelling, அழுத்தம். 4. stoutness, lustiness, grossness, கொழுப்பு. 5. Pride, self-importance, இறுமாப்பு. உன்கனப்பெடுத்துப்போடுவேன். I will reduce you. சரீரக்கனப்பு, s. Heaviness of the body--as in plethora, &c. தலைக்கனப்பு, s. Heaviness in the head. வயிற்றுக்கனப்பு, s. Heaviness of the system from indigestion, constipation, &c. 29)

kḷi (p. 100) s. Joy, gladness, delight, exhilaration, exultation, mirth, jollity, hilarity, மகிழ்ச்சி. 2. Riot, revelling கள்முதலிய அருந்திக்களிக்கை. 3. Wantonness, licentiousness, unrestrained passions, arrogance, சிற் றின்பம். 4. Bewilderment, aberration of mind or intellect, intoxication whether from liquor or circumstances, frenzy, fury, மயக்கம். 5. Toddy, vinous liquor, கள். 6. A person intoxicated with money, learning, liquor, &c., a reveller, செருக்குள்ளவன். (p.) 7. Thick pulp, any soft, thick mass --as thick pap, &c., the quality or consistency of a thick paste or glutinous matter, இறுகியபழச்சாறு. 8. A kind of pap of hasty-pudding, குழம்பு. 9. A kind of pottage hard in itself and made with flour, மாவாற்கிண்டியகளி. களிகிண்ட--களிகிளற, inf. To make களி, pap. களிகூர, inf. To rejoice, exult, மகிழ்ச்சிகூர. களிக்காய், s. Pulpy-fruit, களிப் பானகாய். களிநெஞ்சன், s. A jovial, wanton person. களிப்பாக்கு, s. Areca-nut boiled and dried, அவித்தபாக்கு. களிமண், s. Clay, potter's clay. களிமண்ணடைக்கிறதுபோலடைத்துப்போடுகிறான். He takes in, or swallows up as if he had to fill (a pit) with clay; i. e. he is a glutton, a gormand, a gormandizer. களிமண்தரை, s. Clayey soil. களியர், s. Bacchanaliaus, drunkards, கள்ளுண்டுகளிப்போர். களியர்வண்ணம், s. A poem extolling the advantages of high living, dainty food, vinous liquors, &c., an epicurean poem, ஓர்வண்ணம். களியாட்டு, s. Drunken feasts, bacchanalism, revels, உண்டாட்டு. கேழ்வரகுகளி--கம்புக்களி--சோ ளக்களி, s. Pottage prepared with the flour of different grains. 13)

kuṇṭu (p. 119) s. A ball of stone, wood or metal; anything globular and heavy, திரண் டவடிவு. 2. A cannon-ball, a bullet, &c., பீரங்கிக்குண்டு. 3. A bolus of bang or other narcotic drug, கஞ்சாமுதலியவற்றிற்செய்த திரளை. 4. Depth; deep water, ஆழம். 5. A sinking in, a hollow; lowness, தாழ்வு. 6. A stone, or the testicles of beasts, விதை. 7. A stallion, குண்டுக்குதிரை. 8. [prov.] A small field or lot--as குண்டில், சிறுச்செய். குண்டாய்த்திரட்ட, inf. To make globular, or round as a ball. குண்டடித்தல், v. noun. Playing with cannon-balls; a play among young men. 2. Taking bang. குண்டுபட, inf. To be wounded with a ball. குண்டுக்காயம், s. A gun-shot wound. குண்டுபோட, inf. To fire a ball from a cannon. 2. To fire a cannon. குண்டுபோட்டுச்சுட, inf. To fire with a ball. பீரங்கிக்குண்டு, s. Cannon-ball. விடிகுண்டு, s. Morning-gun. வெடிகுண்டு, s. A bomb. குண்டுக்குழல்--குண்டுக்குழாய், s. A small cannon. 2. A kind of blunder-buss, a gun for bullets, a fusee. குண்டுக்கிராமம், s. A village within gun-shot. குண்டுப்போலீஸ், s. Town-police, whose authority extends to places within gunshot. குண்டுங்குழியுமாயிருக்க, inf. To be uneven. குண்டுமருந்து, s. Bullet and gun-powder. குண்டுச்சம்பா--குண்டைச்சம்பா, s. A kind of round paddy, சொரிகுரும்பை நெல். குண்டுரோசனை--குண்டோசனை, s. An odoriferous root, growing in circular masses used as a drug, ஓர்மருந்துக்கிழங்கு. குண்டுச்சுழி, s. The crescent-like prefix, ெ, used in certain compound characters --as in கெ, கொ. குண்டூசி, s. A pin; lit. needle with a round head. குண்டெழுத்து, s. A full, round hand. குண்டெழுத்தாணி, s. A style with a knob at the top, as a weight to assist the writer. குண்டுக்கட்டு, v. noun. Binding one's neck and heels like a ball. குண்டுப்பிணையல், v. noun. To condense, to consolidate by shaking; to shake together in a mass, ஆட் டியிறுகச்செய்ய. 3. v. n. To put on airs, to be foppish, to be vain, பிலுக்குக்காட்ட. கலசத்தினீரைக்குலுக்கிவீசு.
