akkiṉi (p. 4) s. Fire, தீ. 2. The god of fire and regent of the south-east, அக்கி னிபகவான். (See திக்குபாலகர்.) 3. (M. Dic.) The plant செங்கொடிவேலி. There are reckoned different kinds of அக்கினி, (a.) ஆயுரு வேதாக்கினி, of three kinds, for preparing medicines, as கமலாக்கினி, காடாக்கினி, தீபாக் கினி, which see. (b) Three other kinds called வேதாக்கினி for sacrificial purposes, as, காருகபத்தியம், தக்கணாக்கினியம், ஆகவனீயம். See தீ. (c.) The fire which will consume the world, காலாக்கினி. Wils. p. 6. One of the princely races. அக்கினிக்கட்டு, s. Restraining the power of fire by magic. அக்கினிக்கண்ணன், s. A fiery man, one having a terrible countenance. அக்கினிசன்மன், s. One born of fire, Skanda. See அக்கினிபூ. அக்கினிசாந்தி, s. [in astrology.] Offerings to fire; this is done with ghee, plantains, cakes, &c., after repeating an incantation one hundred and eight times to avert evil from அக்கினிதேவன். These offerings are made particularly at the time of marriage and of doing penance. அக்கினிசாலம், s. Tricks or artifices made by the agency of fire. அக்கினிச்சிலம், s. A plant, Gloriosa superba, L., கார்த்திகைக்கிழங்கு. அக்கினிச்சேர்வை, s. [prov.] A blister-plaster. அக்கினிட்டோமம்--அக்கினிஷ் டோமம், s. Fire-water --such as nitric acid, &c. அக்கினிநாள்--அக்கினிநட்சத்திரம், s. [astrol.] An inauspicious nakshatra or day. There are three in a year, viz., when the sun is in the last quarter of the second nakshatra, பரணி, when in the 3d nakshatra, கார்த்திகை, and when in the 1st quarter of the 4th nakshatra, உரோகணி. அக்கினிபஞ்சகம், s. Construction in which the lines of a stanza are interchangeable, the harmony and meaning remaining the same, or the harmony only slightly affected. aṇai (p. 9) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To embrace, hold, clasp in the arms, adhere to, தழுவ. 2. To join, bring or put to--as earth to a tree, the calf to the cow, &c., அணையச்செய்ய. 3. To get or win over persons to one's side or party, to influence, சேர்த்துக்கொள்ள. 4. To brood over, gather, சிறகின்கீழ்ச்சேர்க்க. 5. To quench, extinguish, அவிக்க. (c.) மரத்துக்குமண்ணணைத்தான், He put earth round the tree. சத்துருவைத்தன்னுடனணைத்தான். He won over his enemy. அணைகயிறு, s. The cord with which a calf is tied to the cow's forefoot, when she is to be milked. அருகணைத்து, v. part. Closely embracing. யானையணைதறி, s. aṇṭu (p. 9) கிறேன், அண்டினேன், வேன், அண்ட, v. a. To approach, approximate to, கிட்ட. 2. To join, unite with, சேர. 3. To resort, or have recourse to, அடைய. 4. v. n. To be bruised, injured or hurt by pressure, or contact, அழுந்த. ஆசையண்டாதாகிலழுகையுமண்டாது. If free from desire (if it approach thee not) thou wilt be free from sorrow. ஒருவனையண்டிப்பிழைக்க, To live by one's favor. அண்டலர், s. Foes, enemies, பகை வர். அண்டல்--அண்டுகை--அண்டு தல், v. noun. These five things do not occur together oftener than once in sixty years.
