ālai (p. 42) s. A press for pressing sugarcane, &c., கரும்பாலை. 2. (p.) Vinous or spirituous liquor, கள். 3. (fig.) Oppression, affliction, உபத்திரவம். ஆலையில்லாவூருக்கிருப்பைப்பூச்சருக்கரை. The flower of the இருப்பை tree is sugar, where there is no sugar-cane-press; i. e. a person of mean abilities is esteemed in those places, where men of superior talents are rare. ஆலைபாய்தல், v. noun. uṟuttu (p. 68) கிறேன், உறுத்தினேன், வே ன், உறுத்த, v. a. To cause to be, to originate, உண்டாக்க. 2. To form, constitute, ஏற்படுத்த. 3. To insert, introduce, சேர்க்க. 4. To render, produce, வருவிக்க. 5. To erect, construct, நாட்ட. 6. To bring in contact, clap together, make an impression on the mind, தாக்க. 7. To cause smarting irritation, &c. --as dust in the eye, a rough or uneven surface to one sitting, or lying down from the protrusion of his bones, வருத்த. 8. To produce mental pain--as by a sarcastic remark, &c., மனதிலுறுத்த.--Note. The meanings of this word are commonly determined by the noun prefixed to it, and it may generally be construed by the form to cause to be, &c. See எலும்புறுத்த, below. புரவிபண்ணுறுத்திடுவார். They equipped the horse. (நைட.) மருங்கினிற்கச்சியாப்புறுத்தான். He bound the girdle about his waist. (சேதுப்.) காலிலேகல்லுறுத்துகின்றது. The pebbles hurt my feet. உறுத்திப்பேச, inf. To speak so as to make an impression on the mind. 2. To speak with energy, earnestness, &c. எலும்புறுத்த, inf. To cause a smarting irritation--as the bones by being protruded. துன்புறுத்த, inf. oṟṟumai (p. 84) s. Union, coalescence, concord, contact, agreement, unison, ஒரு மை. 2. Oneness, sameness, participation of the same qualities, வேறன்மை. 3. Peculiarity, peculiar rights, relation, propriety, உரிமை. 4. Application of mind to one object, close attention, marking with the mind, மனமொன்றுகை. 5. Compound, mixture, கலப்பு. ஒற்றுமைகொள்ளுநெஞ்சனாய். Having the powers of mind concentrated in divine meditation-- (சேதுப்.) எல்லாருமொற்றுமைப்பட்டிருக்கிறார்கள். They are all closely united. தெய்வவொற்றுமையிருந்தால் If providence favor-ஒற்றுமைகோடல், v. noun. Living in peace with others--one of the ten வேளாண்மைமாந்தரியல்பு. ஒற்றுமைநயம், s. Combination, intimate connection, mutual agreement, close union--opp. to வேற்றுமைநயம். (நன் னூல்.) 29)

nilai (p. 277) க்கிறது, த்தது, க்கும், க்க, v. n. To get or gain footing, become fixed, or established, நிற்க. 2. To be permanent, lasting, durable; to persevere, உறுதிகொள்ள. 3. To be at a stand as a beast tied, or a car that cannot be moved, நடவாதிருக்க. 4. To be stunted, as plants, &c., வளராதுநிற்க. 5. To stay too long in a place, தாமதிக்க. 6. To be fordable, ஆளுக்குநிலைக்க. 7. To be fixed as the eyes at the approach of death, &c., கண்நிலைக்குத்திட. 8. v. a. [poetic with personal terminations.] To set up, erect, establish, நிலைப்படுத்த. (சேதுப்.)--Note. போக is often added to the gerund of verb; as நிலைத்துப்போக, to come to a stand, to be fixed. தண்ணீராளுக்குநிலைக்கும். The water may be forded. நிலையாதஆறு, s. A river not fordable. நிலையாததண்ணீர், s. Water not fordable. நிலையாமை, neg. v. noun. Being transient, &c., as நிலையில்லாமை, which see, நிலைப்பு, v. noun.
