Impossibility, unattainableness, கூடாமை. 5. Delicacy, சிறப்பு.--Note. As an adjective, மை is dropped before a consonant with a change of that, when required in combination, and அரு may be changed into அரிய with or without து, or the last vowel may be dropped, and the first lengthened as in ஆருயிர், precious life. அருங்கலைநாயகன், s. Buddha, the lord of eminent sciences, புத்தன். அருங்கலைவினோதன், s. one devoted to learning; one whose time is spent in cultivating the arts and sciences. அருங்கிடை, s. Extreme hunger from long abstinence, &c., பட்டிணி. அருங்கிடைகிடக்க, inf. To be in a starving condition. அருங்கேடன், s. One who is imperishable, who will always prosper. (குறள்.) 2. (c.) Rigid austerities. அருந்தவர், s. Ascetics. அருந்தூதன், s. A tormentor, one who inflicts pain, வேதனைசெய்வோன். அருமருந்து, s. Nectar, அமிர்தம். In classical works, this in the form அருமருந்தன்னபிள்ளை is contracted to அருமந்த, precious as nectar, as, அருமந்தபிள்ளை. A very dear child, அருமந்ததேர். A very costly chariot. அருமறை, s. The sacred Vedas. Ell. 145. 4. அருமறைக்கொடியோன், s. A name of Dronácharya, the military preceptor of the Pandavas and Kurus, because of the Vedic device on his banner. அருமைப்படுத்த, inf. [prov.] A girdle, waist-string, necklace, &c., so short as scarcely to be brought to meet, a string, rope, &c., so short as to be tied with difficulty, a bow-string so short as to be liable to break if brought up too far, any thing too little, too short, too narrow, &c., எட்டாப்பூட்டு. 2. Difficulty in settling a negotiation, agreement, &c., இணக்கக்கூடாமை. 3. Entanglement, ensnarement, மோசத்திலகப்படுகை. 4. Forced connection in language, clauses disconnected or not joined naturally, difficult or unnatural; construction, தொடர்ச்சி யின்மை. சொற்களையரும்பூட்டாய்த் தொடுத்துப்பேசினான். He spoke in an unconnected manner. அரும்பொருள், s. Excellent advice, hard doctrine, a rare or difficult meaning. 2. A choice or precious article. அருவினை, s. A great sin. அருவினைகளைந்து. The five great sins. தெய்வமொருவனென்றேத்தி யொருமித்திருந்தால் அருவினைகளைந்துமறும். The five great sins will be forgiven him who worships the one God with singleness of heart. (கம்பன்.) 5)

The common termination of the third person singular feminine, பெண்பாற்படர்க்கை யொருமைவிகுதி. ஆளானான். He has attained to manhood, has become a person of consequence. அவனதற்காளோ? Is he competent for that? மரங்களாளாய்ப்போயின. The trees have arrived at maturity. ஆட்காட்டி, s. The forefinger, சுட்டுவிரல். 2. A bird, the lapwing, which screeches on the approach of a person by night, ஓர்பறவை. ஆட்கூலி, s. The hire of a workman. ஆட்கொல்லி, s. A murderer, manslayer, homicide, assassin, கொலை காரன். 2. (fig.) Gold, money, பணம். ஆட்கொள்ள, inf. To employ as a servant, admit as a worshipper, devotee, &c.--used in reference to the deity, or a great person--implying grace or condescension in the receiver, and benefit to the person taken, அடிமைகொள்ள. ஆட்பட, inf. To become a servant, devotee, &c., commonly to a deity. 2. [prov.] To rise from obscurity, become a man of some property, or consequence. 3. To come to manhood. 4. To regain strength, &c., after sickness. அவனென்னாலேயாட்பட்டான். He became eminent by me. ஆட்படுத்த, inf. To adopt one as a devotee, servant, &c. 2. To raise a person from obscurity. 3. To rear, bring up a person from a child to a man, cherish, nourish. ஆட்பார்க்க, inf. To seek another. 2. To watch as a thief, guard himself against detection. 3. To look for persons for any bad purpose--as a prostitute, &c.--as Yama the god of death. ஆட்பார்த்துழலுமருளில்கூற்றுண்மையால். Since Yama the merciless god of death, who goes about looking for his victims, does actually exist. (நாலடி). ஆளரி, s. Vishnu in his incarnation as a lion. ஆளன்கீழப்பெண்சாதி, s. A wife. ஆளானவன், s. One who is arrived at the state of manhood. 2. One who is become eminent, or exalted over others. ஆளொட்டி--ஆளொதுங்கி, s. A hiding place, மறைவு. 2. A sentry-box, காவற்கூடு. ஆளோட்டி, s. A slave-driver, task-master, overseer of workmen, ஆளை வேலைகொள்வோன். ஆள்தேறுதல், v. noun. Recovering strength or stoutness. ஆள்த்திட்டம்--ஆட்டிட்டம், s. Depth, capacity of a person. 2. Marks for recognizing a person, recognizance. ஆள்வணங்கி, s. A tree, Ficus, L. ஆள்வினை, s. Energy, alacrity, diligence, application, exertion, perseverance, an enterprise, முயற்சி. 2. Consciousness, feeling, intuition, perception, discernment, understanding, sensibility, knowledge, wisdom, judgment, experience, reason, learning, &c., acquiring knowledge, உணர்வு. என்காலிலேயுணர்ச்சியில்லை. My leg is devoid of feeling, affected by paralysis, &c. உணர்தல், v. noun. Being reconciled--as man and wife after a lovequarrel. ஊடலுணர்தல்புணர்தலிவைகாமங்கூடியார்பெற் றபயன். Disunion, reconciliation and the pleasures of love, those are the fruits of matrimony. (குறள்.) உணர்த்தி, s. [vul. prop. உணர்ச்சி.] Feeling. உணர்த்தியற்றவன், s. A man past feeling, one devoid of sensibility. உணர்த்தியுள்ளவன், s. A man of sensibility, one who is affected by the wants of others. உணர்வு, v. noun. Feeling, consciousness, intuition, perception, understanding, knowledge by means of the senses, உணர்கை. 2. Clear discernment, intellect, reason, தெளிவு. 3. Cessation from sleep, love quarrels, &c., ஊடலுந் துயிலுநீங்கல். 4. Acquiring of knowledge, learning, experience, acquaintance with science, &c., கற்றுணர்கை. 5. A sense, புலன். 6. Separation, நீங்கல். உணரவுணருமுணர்வுடையாரைப்புணரப்புணருமா மின்பம். To be united in friendship with the prudent who think of what they ought to think is productive of the highest felicity. (நாலடி.) உள்ளத்துணர்வுடையான். A man of great wisdom. உணர்வுகேடு, s. Forgetfulness, listlessness, inattention, உணர்ச்சியின்மை. 2. Want of understanding, அறிவீனம். நுண்ணுணர்வு, s. To become rich, wealthy, opulent, to prosper, செல்வமுண்டாக; [ex உள்.] (c.) உண்டாயபோழ்தினுடைந்துழிக்காகம்போற்றொண் டாயிரவர்தொகுபவே. Thousands crowd about the wealthy as crows about a corpse.
