கம்பி
kmpi (p. 96) s. Wire, any rod or bar of metal, இரும்புமுதலியவற்றின்கம்பி. 2. A kind of ear-ring, காதணியிலொன்று. 3. A narrow stripe in the border of a cloth, துணியினோ ர்கரை. 4. A small moulding in carpenter's, or mason's work, சித்திரக்கம்பி. 5. Saltpetre, வெடியுப்பு. 6. [in slang language.] Money (com. காசு). கம்பியுந்தாலியும். The marriage symbol with the wire on which it is strung as worn by the idol, the name is also given to the symbol worn by women. கம்பிகட்ட, inf. To make the border of a cloth--as a dyer. 2. To make a narrow moulding. 3. To pass the wire through the bones in an umbrella. கம்பிக்கடுக்கன், s. An ear-ring formed of a bent wire, ஓர்கடுக்கன். கம்பிக்கரை, s. A narrow stripe, commonly silver, in a border. கம்பிக்காரன், s. A monied man. கம்பிச்சேலை, s. A cloth for women with a striped border. கம்பிநீட்ட, inf. To lengthen a piece of metal by beating or otherwise. 2. (Met.) To go off slily, to steal away, to take to one's heels. கம்பிப்பிசின், s. A kind of wiry medicinal gum. கம்பிமணி, s. Salt-petre of a superior quality in bars or pieces, ஒருப்பு. கம்பிவளைக்க, inf. To draw a wire flat. கம்பிவாங்க, inf. To go off slily, to steal away, ஓடிப்போக (colloquial or jesting language). கம்பிவிறிசு, s. A fire-work which ejects its contents in pencils of light. ஈர்க்குக்கம்பி--கம்பிக்குறி, s. A small stripe in cloth. பட்டைக்கம்பி, s. A large stripe. இருப்புக்கம்பி, s. Iron wire. வெண்கலக்கம்பி, s. Brass wire. கடலைக்கம்பி, s. paṭṭaṇam (p. 291) s. Town, city, a large town, நகரம். W. p. 496. PAT'T'ANA. (c.) --Note. The Sanscrit does not warrant the distinction which makes பட்டணம் a large and பட்டினம் a small city; but it is Tamil usage. பட்டணக்கரை, s. The town and its vicinity taken collectively. (colloq.) பட்டணசுவாமி, s. A devotee-poet of Caveripumpatnam, Who was a rich merchant, but renounced the world, and wrote many small poems; also பட்டணத்துப் பிள்ளை. 2. [pl.] Europeans, chiefly Englishmen. 2. The owners of a language. பாஷைபங்கம், s. [prov.] A threat of vengeance under oath. பாஷைபடிக்க--பாஷையைப்படிக்க, inf. To learn a language. பாஷைபேச, inf. To speak English. 2. To speak a foreign language. 3. To speak in an unknown tongue. (colloq.) பாஷைப்படுத்த--பாஷையாக்க, inf. To translate. பாஷைப்போக்கு, v. noun. piṇṭam (p. 315) s. Any thing globular, a roundish lump or mass, a ball, a globe, உண்டை. 2. Embryo; f&oe;tus, கருப்பிண்டம். 3. The body, உடல். 4. A roundish lump of food, considered as a mouthful, கவளம். 5. Boiled rice, சோறு. 6. Boiled rice in lumps for the manes, பிதிர்கட்கிடும்பிண்டம். 7. Boiled rice as given in charity to religious mendicants, பிச்சை. (c.) 8. The etymon, radix or indivisible part of a word, மூலபதம். 9. Concrete form or state, undistinguished by parts, undeveloped, தொகுப்பு. 1. Collection, multitude, கூட்டம். W. p. 534. PIN'DA. பிண்டமும்துண்டமுங்கொடுத்தான். He gave a morsel of food and piece of cloth; as what, in language of ascetics, the body requires. பிண்டகருமம்--பிண்டகிரியை, s. The ceremony of offering rice for deceased ancestors. பிண்டகன், appel. n. One who offers an oblation of rice for a deceased ancestor, பிண்டமிடுவோன். பிண்டக்கரு, s. The f&oe;tus. பிண்டக்காப்பு, s. Boiled rice, as பிண் டம். (colloq.) பிண்டச்சூத்திரம், s. An introduction which lays open a subject. See சூத்திரம். பிண்டதானம்--பிண்டப்பிரதானம், s. Presenting balls of rice, cakes, &c., to the manes. See சிரார்த்தம். பிண்டப்புறனடை, s. Abstract remarks or notes in an author's work, connected with the subject in hand, or with others. பிண்டப்பொருள், s. The substance or free rendering of a verse, &c. 2. Any thing in mass, as a heap of paddy, &c. பிண்டம்பிடிக்க, inf. To form any thing into a globular shape. 2. To create--as the Deity. பிண்டம்போட, inf. To set a ball of rice for each of the manes, in the shraddha or funeral ceremony, also பிண்டம்வைக்க; 2. [in cant.] To eat. பிண்டம்விழுதல், appel. n. Miscarriage or abortion. பிண்டம்வெளிப்படல், s. Appearing of the f&oe;tus at birth. பிண்டவுரை, s. A comment giving the substance of a text, in a free but concise manner, without ornament. See பொழிப்புரை in உரை. பிண்டாண்டம், s. [com. அண்டபிண் டம்.] The body and universe. பிண்டாண்டப்பேரொளி. The great light that illumines both the body and the universe, God. முத்திராப்பிண்டம், s. பிய்
piy (p. 316) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், [vul. பிச்சேன்.] ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To rip, tear, rend, கிழிக்க. 2. To card or pick cotton; to separate into parts, பண்ண. 3. To break or pinch off, to break in pieces--as thin cakes or wafers; to tear into small bits--as paper or leaves, இலைமுதலியவற்றைப்பிய்க்க. 4. To break through a hedge, to break--as cadjans, பிரிக்க. வாக்கு
vākku (p. 382) s. Word, speech, வார்த்தை. 2. The mouth, as one of the five organs of the body. See இந்திரியம். [ex Sa. Vach.] வாக்கு, 4. Four different sounds; 1. சூக்குமை, the sound from the navel--the supposed source of the air, or wind which gives intonation; 2. பைசந்தி, sound from the breast or lungs; 3. மத்திமை, sound from the throat or epiglottis; 4. வைகரி, articulate sound, from the tongue or mouth. அவருடையதுநல்லவாக்கு. To promise. (p.) வாக்குச்சகாயம்பண்ண, inf. To aid by words, to recommend. வாக்குச்சித்தி, s. Success from words. See under சித்தி. வாக்குச்சொல்ல--வாக்குக்கொடுக்க-வாக்குப்பண்ண, inf. To promise, declare, pledge one's word. வாக்குத்தத்தம், s. A promise. See தத்தம். வாக்குத்தம்பம், s. The art of fascinating the mouth. See கலைஞானம். வாக்குத்தானம், s. See தானம், 15. வாக்குத்தானச்சனி, s. As இரண்டாமி டத்துச்சனி, under சனி. (R.) வாக்குத்தீட்சை--வாசகதீட்சை, s. Oral instruction--one of the modes of enlightening the mind of a disciple. See தீட்சை. வாக்குநாணயம், s. Fidelity to one's word, unfailing fulfilment of promises. வாக்குப்பிசக, inf. To slip, in words or utterance, as the tongue in pronunciation. 2. See பிசகு. வாக்குப்புரள--வாக்குமாற, inf. To fail in a promise, to break one's words. வாக்குப்புறப்படுதல், v. noun. The coming out of words from the mouth. வாக்குமூலம், s. A deposition in which the statements of complainants, defendants, and witnesses, are taken with their signatures. 2. [as adv. also வாக்கு முகாந்தரம்.] By word of mouth; upon one's assertion. வாக்குமூலம்வாங்குகிறது. Getting one's deposition as a magistrate. (Govt. usage.) வாக்குரோசம்--வாக்குரோஷம், s. Irritation from insulting words, irascibility. வாக்குவசீகரம், s. Cajoling, wheedling, இன்சொல். வாக்குவல்லபம், s. Emphatic and powerful language, oratorial speech. வாக்குவாதம், s. A disputation, a quarrel. வாக்குவிசேஷம், s. An effective speech. வாக்குவிற்க, inf. To give a binding promise, (lit.) to sell one's words (colloq.) நானவனுக்குவாக்குவிற்றிருக்கிறேன், தவறக்கூடா து.
