A figurative word or phrase; it embraces three kinds; viz.: 1. விட்டவிலக்கணை, this may be metaphor, personification or otherwise--as in ascribing the power, actions, &c. of animate beings to inanimate --as, மச்சுக்கூப்பிடுகிறது, the house (people of the house) calls. 2. விடாதவிலக்கணை, a metonymy--as, புளித்தின்றான், he has eaten tamarind; i. e. its fruit. 3. விட்டும்விடாதவி லக்கணை, a kind of paradox being in one view forced and unnatural--as சூரியனிரு ளைப்பருகிற்று, the rising sun devoured the darkness; i. e. dispelled it. 17)

To communicate or infuse virtue, savor, force, vigor, &c. சாரமற்ற, adj. Insipid, unsavory, unrelishable. 2. [in discourse.] Powerless, vapid, uninteresting, not sound, profound, forcible or impressive, &c., உருசி யற்ற. சாரமற்றவன், s. One without knowledge, learning, strength, vigor, property, merit of austerities, &c. சாரஞ்சுட, inf. To burn the milkhedge, prickly pear shrub, &c., to get their ashes for making lye. சாரத்தண்ணீர், s. Lye, காரத்தண்ணீர். சாரந்தெளிக்க, inf. To sprinkle lye on clothes to whiten them. சாரத்தின்சத்துரு, s. An egg, from its neutralizing qualities, முட்டை. சாரக்கட்டை, s. A temporary wall, made use of in turning an arch. (R.) சாரத்துளை, s. Scaffold-holes in a building. சாரம்போட--சாரங்கட்ட, inf. To erect a scaffolding. (c.) சாரஸ்திரி, s. [Com. சோரஸ்திரி.] A vicious woman, an adulteress, விபசாரி. (p.) சாரத்துவம், s. Adultery, விபசாரம். சாரவறுதி--சாரவிறுதி, v. noun. [prov.] Lightness, slightness--as of a blow, a fall, &c.; [ex சாரம், strength, et அறுதி or இறுதி, wanting.] சாரவறுதியாய்ப்பட்டது. It hit him but slightly. சாரவாக்கியம், s. [in astron.] A table or any tabular number in it for counting the progress of the planets.--Note. To communicate good news as the birth of a son, a happy marriage, the attainment of a marriage fortune, a good office, &c. 2. To congratulate; to express one's self in auspicious language. 3.
