tampaṉam (p. 224) --ஸ்தம்பனம், s. (sometimes தம்பம்.) Stopping, restraining, hindering the power of fire; stopping a flow of water or blood; checking the ferocity of wild beasts; causing a person or spirit to stand immovably in a place; suppressing bodily faculties; depriving one of the power of speech, action, motion; suspending natural qualities, அசைவறநிறுத்துகை.-There are different kinds, as அக்கினித்தம்ப னம், கட்கத்தம்பனம், சலத்தம்பனம், சுக்கிலத்தம்ப னம், திஷ்டித்தம்பனம், பூதத்தம்பனம், வாயுத்தம்பனம், which see in their places, as given with ஸ்தம்பம் termination and in கலைஞானம். தம்பனகாரன்--தம்பனவித்தைக்காரன், s. A magician, a conjurer who exercises magic powers to stop or restrain as above. தம்பனக்குளிகை, s. A magical pill. See குளிகை. தம்பனவித்தை. That art of restraining by magic. கன்னத்தம்பனம், s. Stopping the discovery of hidden things. 5)

To distinguish lucky from unlucky days. தினவர்த்தமானம், s. Daily news. இன்றையதினம். To-day; நாளையதினம், tomorrow; நேற்றையதினம், yesterday; சுதினம், a good day--in salutation; துர்த்தினம், an unlucky day. தினாதினம், s. Various days. 2. A great or special day, (plural for sing. by way of eminence.) தினாந்தம், s. Evening, sunset, close of the day; [ex அந்தம், end.] தினாந்தரம், adv. Daily. 2. s. Intervening day or days, இடையாந்தரம். தினாம்சம், s. Part of a day; [ex அமிசம்.] தினாரம்பம், s. Beginning of a day, morning; [ex ஆரம்பம்.] தினார்த்தம்.s.
