akngkri (p. 1) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. n. To be proud, haughty, arrogant, self-conceited, இறுமாக்க. 14)

அகங்காரம்
akngkārm (p. 1) s. Pride, self-consequence, கருவம். 2. One of the four intellectual powers, the energy which excites to action, அந்தக்கரணங்களிலொன்று. (See இந்தி ரியம்.) 3. Self-consciousness, individuality, regarding one's self as performing actions instead of the deity as operating within, நானெனுஞ்செருக்கு. 4. (p.) An operating cause of transmigration, பிறவிக்குமூலம்; ex அகம் myself, et காரம் that which acts. அகங்காரகிரந்தி--அகங்காரக்கிரந்தி, s. The bond of the three evil principles, மும்மலம், which bind the soul from eternity, and subject it to births. (p.) அகங்காரத்திரயம், s. kāẕ (p. 105) s. Seed, விதை. 2. Stones or kernels of certain fruits, கொட்டை. 3. Gravel, பாற்கல். 4. Crystal, பளிங்கு. 5. A string of beads, pearls or other gems, மணிவடம். 6. Brightness, lustre, ஒளி. (பிங்.) 7. Hardness, solidity of timber, வைரம். 8. Blemish, defect, fault, குற்றம். (p.) அகக்காழ்--அகங்காழ், s. Inside solidity--as that of the trees belonging to the class of exogens. இருக்காழி, s. A fruit of two stones or seeds--as இருக்காழிப்பனங்காய். பதுமக்காழ், s. Seed of the Nelumbium. புறக்காழ்--புறங்காழ், s. Outside solidity--as that of the trees belonging to the class of endogens. முக்காழி, s. A fruit of three stones or seeds--as முக்காழிப் பனங்காய், முக்காழிஇலு ப்பைக்காய். 48)
செருக்கு
cerukku (p. 204) s. Haughtiness, wantonness, pride, vanity, self-conceit, self-importance, self-sufficiency, அகங்காரம். 2. Inflation from pride; intoxication with vanity, wealth, office, &c., கர்வம். 3. Exultation, excessive joy, joviality, elation, களிப்பு. 4. Boldness, daring, mettle, intrepidity, frenzy, arrogance, audacity, presumption, temerity. rashness, wilfulness, ஆண்மை. 5. The feeling or vanity of self-agency, instead of ascribing one's actions, &c., to the deity, ஆணவம். 6. Infatuation, illusion, the diversion of the mental powers from their proper course, or from seeking the supreme good, the predominance of the senses over reason, மயக்கம். 7. High hope, aspiration, sanguine expectation, மனோராச்சியம். (c.) அவன்செருக்குகுலைந்தது. His pride is brought down. செருக்கன்--செருக்குக்காரன், s. A wanton, vain, presumptuous person. செருக்காய்ப்பேச, inf. To speak proudly, to assume too much. செருக்காய்வளர்க்க, inf. To bring up in a delicate manner, செல்லமாய்வளர்க்க. செருக்குக்காட்ட, inf. To show pride, to be vain, self-important, self-conceited. செருக்குப்பண்ண, inf.. To act proudly, arrogantly, wantonly. படைச்செருக்கு, s. Daring intrepidity, high spirits, vaunting and bravado, &c., of the soldier. செருக்கடிக்க, inf. To vaunt with an inarticulate sound. (c.) பணச்செருக்கு, s. Pride of money. கல்விச்செருக்கு, s. Pride of learning. செல்வச்செருக்கு, s. Inflation of wealth. குடிச்செருக்கு, s. A vain conceit of high birth, குடிப்பிறப்பினாணவம். 66)
செருக்கு
cerukku (p. 204) கிறேன், செருக்கினேன், வேன், செருக்க, v. n. To be dizzy, giddy; to be stupified, faint, or to have nausea, from taking strong areca-nuts, &c., தலைகிறுகிறுக்க. 2. To be choked by a bone, or a piece of areca-nut, stopped in the throat, பாக்கடை க்க. 3. To be proud, vain, self-conceited, அகங்கரிக்க. 4. To be wilful, wanton, presumptuous, rash, கர்வமாயிருக்க. 5. To be infatuated, to have the mental powers deluded, or the reason under the dominion of the senses, மயக்கமுற. 6. To believe in selfaction, and be insensible to the agency of the deity in one's operations, ஆணவமுற. (c.) மாடுசெருக்குகிறது. The ox chokes (from something stuck in its throat.) செருக்கிக்கிடக்க, inf. To be dizzy from taking strong areca-nuts, or from eating strong வரகு grain. செருக்கல், v. noun Dizziness, stupor, nausea, incipient or slight inebriation, from the use of some kinds of arecanuts, &c., அருக்களிப்பு. 2. Elated feelings, either in a bad or good sense, மிகமகிழ்கை. செருக்கல்வரகு, s. [prov.] A kind of வரகு, or millet, that causes dizziness, stupor, &c. செருக்கற்பாக்கு--செருக்குபாக்கு, s. [prov.] Stupifying areca-nuts. மதஞ்செருக்க, inf. To be mad with lust. செல்வச்செருக்க, inf. To be intoxicated with prosperity. 67)
தருக்கு
trukku (p. 225) கிறேன், தருக்கினேன், வேன், தருக்க, v. n. To be proud, vain, arrogant, supercilious, assuming, அகங்கரிக்க. 2. To be elated, mirthful, jovial, களிக்க. 3. To be courageous, bold, brave, ஊக்கமுற. 4. To be full of expectation, எழுச்சிக்கொள்ள. (p.) தருக்கி, appel. n. A proud, self-conceited person, அகங்காரி. 2. One able to dispute, தர்க்கிப்போன். தருக்கல், v. noun. Being self-conceited, &c., Used in the meanings of the verb. 47)
தாரணை
tāraṇai (p. 234) s. Stability, steadiness, firmness, establishment, fixture, உறுதி. 2. One of the eight அங்கயோகம் of the silent, motionless devotee; fixing the mind, constantly on a member of the body as an expedient for keeping the thoughts from wandering. 3. Construction, arrangement, order, system, principles, established order of things either natural or artificial. See நவதாரணை. (Sa. Dha'ran'a.) நவதாரணை, The nine classes of things; existing or established by art; 1. நாமதாரணை, names appellations. 2. வச் சிரதாரணை,(probably) terms of architecture. 3. மாயாதாரணை, things formed by மாயை, as words, appearance of things created. 4. சித்திரதாரணை, paintings or sculpture. 5. செய்யுட்டாரணை, poems, poetry, compositions. 6. நிறை வு குறைவாகிய எண்பொருட்டாரணை, perhaps abstract numbers. 7. சத்ததாரணை, contrivance for the formation or modulation of sounds, as bells, musical instruments. 8. வஸ்துதாரணை, productions of art in general. 9. சதுரங்கதாரணை, a complete army of four kinds of forces. (See சதுரங்கம்.) II. The nine forms of worship practised by the Saiva Yogis. Their classification is: 1. நாமதாரணை, the worship of the Omnipresent God in the form of an image, to which is given his name. அளவிடப்படாதபிர மத்தைநாமத்தினால்வரையறைப்படுத்தல். 2. மாயாதா ரணை, worshipping the Supreme Being, who is unlimited, and without form, by the use of he formule, Maha Vakya (the great speech), accompanied by the entire renunciation of the world. This accords with the practice of the Adwita class of Vedantists, விகாரங்களில்லாதபாமரன் மாவினிடத்தில்புனைந்துரைக்கப்பட்ட பிரபஞ்சவியா பாரமாயையைத்துறப்பதற்குக்கருவியானமகாவாக்கியத் தைப்பொளுணர்ச்சியோடுஉச்சரித்தல். 3. பேததார ணை, an exercise of the Yogi to restrain his bodily affections, by uniting the vital air in the heart, பிராணன், in the podex, அபானன், in the body generally, வியானன், and in the throat, உதானன், these four, with that in the navel, சமானன்; and thus with the inward recital of the mystic O'm, to alter the position of his heart, supposed to be like a lotus flower with eight petals hanging downwards, பலமுறைஇயமாதிகள்செய்து, பிராணன், அபாணன், வியானன், உதானன் என்கிறவாயுக் களைச்சமானவா யுவுடனேசேர்த்து, கீழ்முகமாயிருக்கிற உள்ளக்கமலத் தைமேல்முகமாக்குகை, 4. மந்திரதாரணை, worshipping Siva by the famous five lettered incantation, நமசிவாய--rejecting the mystic O'm--ascribing to him the supremacy, and recognizing the universe as only the manifestation of Siva. Such as do this reject the primitive system, and believe in an all pervading soul of the universe, called Siva, எல்லாவற்றிற்கும் அதிஷ் டானமாய்எவையுமாகிறவன்சிவனேயென்று, பௌ ராணிகமந்திரங்களால்சிவத்தியானஞ்செய்தல். 5. சது ரங்கதாரணை, meditating on the Supreme Being, as one who having purified himself, and suspended his breath, unites the faculties of the mind with the four constituents of the body--earth, water, fire and wind--in the cavity of the crown of the head. This is done when the reason represented by fire; reflection by the wind; the will by water, are joined with resolution or passion, represented by earth, and all co-operate to fix the mind in the air, the seat of Brahma, காய சோதனம்பண்ணுகிறவன் நிலம், நீர், தீ, கால் என் னுஞ்சதுரங்கமாகிய அகங்காரசித்த புத்திமனசென்கிற வைகளைமுறையாக அடக்கி, பின்பு கால்வடிவானம னசை ஆகாயமாகியபிரமத்தானத்தில் சேரும்படிதியா னித்தல். 6. சத்ததாரணை, continual meditation of an ascetic in an immoveable posture, uttering the sounds of அ, உ, ம், or O'm. which represent the deity. This is done while closing the eyes and restraining all the external senses. By the mystic syllable, the வாதநாடி pulse is said to be purified, and its pulsation may be beard. (See கும் பகம்.) பிரமத்தையுணர்த்துகிற பிரணவத்தைத்தியான தாரணசமாதிகளால்அடைந்து, புறக்காணச்செய்கை யற்று, கும்பகத்தானமானவாதநாடியைச்சுத்திபண் ணி, நாதானுசந்தானத்தையடைதல். 7. வஸ்துதார ணை, the mental perception of Brahm, obtained by the firm power of thought, separated from external things, which unites the reason with the will, These combined, produce action or passion, Passion, reason and will are condensed in reflection, by which Brahm is perceived, பிறபொருளையடையாமல்அசைவற்றிருக்கிற மனமானதுபுத்தி, சித்தம், அகங்காரங்கள்மூன்றையு முறையேசேர்த்துக்கொண்டபின், அம்மனத்தால்பிரம த்தைத்தரித்தல். 8. வச்சிரதாரணை, rendering homage to Siva only in the Lingam. rejecting the lower positions which represent Brahma and Vishnu; and renouncing passion, and the corporeal senses, contemplating the divine essence with a fixed mind, பிரமன்வடிவாகியபீடத் தையும், திருமால்வடிவாகியவிவரத்தையும்நீக்கி, இலி ங்கத்தைமாத்திரம்பூசித்தல்என்றால்--அகங்காரத்தை யுஞ்சீவத்துவத்தையும்துறந்து, பரத்துவத்தையேதியா னித்தலாம், 9. சித்திரதாரணை, becoming ripe for absorption and approaching assimilation to the deity, by gaining a knowledge of the twenty-six properties of the body, the soul, and the Supreme Being (ஷட்விம்சகபாவம்). This is obtained by entirely forgetting the austerities practised, repeating continually the மகா வாக்கியம், solely contemplating the benefit to be derived, and then renouncing even that; the soul thus dominates over the immerging principle, arrives at a pure, spiritual knowledge and is merged in the Divinity, சத்தஉச்சரிப்பா லாகியமந்திரப்பிரயோகத்தைநீக்கி, பொருளையே ம னதில் அனுசந்தானம்பண்ணிக்கொண்டு, ஷட்விம் சகபாவத்தையடைந்து, பிராரப்தம் என்கிற கர்மபயன் களைமறந்து, சத்தார்த்தங்களையும்விட்டு, அறிவுமயமாயே இருத்தல். 32) *
