In Hindu philosophy, காலம் is said by the Saivas to have proceeded from மோகினி Maya, and to be a co-efficient cause with Siva in the acts of creation, preservation and destruction. It is Time personified, and according to the Hindu metaphysicians, one of the seven வித்தியாத் துவம். (சிவ. சி.) 2. Season of the year or life; also a specific time of the day, பருவம். 3. A seasonable or proper time, opportunity, season, சமயம். Wils. p. 216. KALA. 4. Day-break, விடியல். 5. (fig.) (c.) An experienced man; an aged person. காலங்கரந்தபெயரெச்சம், s. [in gram.] A relative participle without the characteristics of the tenses--as in கொல் யானை. காலங்கழிக்க, inf. To pass time கா லம்போக்க. காலங்கழிய, inf. To pass--as time, நாட்கழிய. காலங்கூட, inf. [local.] To die. காலசக்கரம், s. The different number of years of influence ascribed to the respective planets as operative on the lives of persons, ஆயுள்நியதிச்சக்கரம். 2. Time in reference to the influences of planets upon the fortune, health, &c., of a person. காலநோக்காடு, s. [prov. in child-birth.] Natural and timely labor. காலந்தள்ள, inf. To pass one's days, to pass one's time, to maintain one's self, to live, காலம்போக்க. காலப்பரிச்சேதம், s. Discernment--as to the time of an event or the existences of a thing. It is one of the three பரிச்சேதம் modes of ascertaining facts. காலபரிபாகம், s. The maturity of the soul, or time for its attaining bliss, having eliminated its good and evil propensities. காலபேதம்--காலவித்தியாசம்--கால வேற்றுமை, s. Difference of time with respect to the changes it produces. காலபோகம், s. A crop of grain or fruits in the proper season. 2. The enjoyment or suffering resulting from previous moral actions, to which a living being at distant times is subjected, காலப் பயனுகர்வு. காலப்பெயர், s. Nouns or names of time--as year, month. 2. Nouns derived from names of time--as பங்குனன் (one born in the பங்குனி month). காலப்பெயர்ச்சி, s. Change of season or monsoon; unseasonable weather, கால விகற்பம். காலமயக்கம்--காலமயக்கு, s. [in gram.] An improper use of the tenses, காலவழு. 2. An allowed deviation in the use of tenses, காலவழுவமைதி. காலமலைவு, s. Confusion of statement in regard to time--as asserting that the lotus blooms in the evening, or the lily during the day. காலமல்லாக்காலம், s. An unfortunate, fatal time; an unseasonable time, அகாலம். காலமழை, s. Rain in the proper season, பருவத்திற்பெய்யுமழை. காலமறிய, inf. To know the times so as to adapt one's self to them, காலவகைய றிய. 2. To know things past, present or future intuitively or by apiritual sight --as yogis, காலவியற்கையறிய. காலமாறு, Morning by morning, every morning, காலைதோறும். (c.). காலமானம், s. Customs of the times. காலவழு, s. [in gram.] An improper use of the tenses--as the past for the future, &c., காலக்குற்றம். காலவாகுபெயர், s. [in gram.] Nouns of time or portions of time, used by metonymy for what is intimately connected with time--as கார்த்திகை, the name of a month, for a plant which mostly blossoms during the month. காலவிடைநிலை, s. [in gram.] Characteristics of tenses, காலத்தைக்காட்டுமிடை நிலை. They are 1. த், ட், ற், and இன் for the past. 2. ஆநின்று, கின்று and கிறு for the present. 3. ப், ல், for the future. There are some other characteristics-as மன், இசின், ய், இ, ன், &c. காலவிரைவு, v. noun. Swiftness or rapid flight of time. காலாகாலம், s. Times seasonable and unseasonable, auspicious and inauspicious, நற்காலந்துர்க்காலம். 2. One time or another, not often, not frequently. (c.) காலாக்கினி, s. The fire which is to destroy the world at the end of the great yuga; a deluge-fire said to be in reserve in the nethermost part of the earth. Wils. p. 218. KALAGNI. 2. One of the two-hundred and twenty-four புவ னம் under the regency of Kálágni. காலாக்கினியுருத்திரம், s. One of the thirty-two உபநிடதம். காலாக்கினியுருத்திரர், s. Rudra or the deity in the lowest region, in charge of the deluge-fire. There are ten subordinate Rudras, who resemble their chief. காலாந்தம், s. Three kinds of medicinal roots, 1. திப்பிலிமூலம், of long-pepper; 2. சித்திரமூலம், of plumbago; 3. கண்டு மூலம், of a medicinal plant. திரியத்துவம்--திரியேகத்துவம்--திரியே கம். s. (Chris. usage.) Triune, trinity. திரியம்பகன், s. Siva, as the threeeyed, சிவன்; sometimes Vishnu; [ex அம் பகம், eye.] திரியவத்தை--திரியாவஸ்தை, The Three states of the mind. See அவத்தை. திரியாங்கம், s. A calendar embracing three parts or members, out of the five given in the native calendars; viz.: திதி, வாரம், நட்சத்திரம். See பஞ்சாங்கம். திருயேககடவுள்--திரியேகன், s. (Chris. usage.) God the Father, the son, and the Holy Ghost, which three are one. திரிலிங்கம், s. A mode of using the hands in dancing. (See காலட்சணம்.) 2. [in gram.] The three genders, 1. புல்லிங் கம், the masculine; 2. ஸ்திரீலிங்கம், the feminine; 3. நபுஞ்சலிங்கம், the neuter. திரிலோகம், s. The three worlds--the earth, the etherial regions, and the world of the gods, பூமி, அந்தரம், சுவர்க்கம். 2. Three metals--gold, பொன், silver, வெள்ளி, and copper, செம்பு. திரிலோகசிந்தூரம், s. A chemical preparation of three metals--of load-stone, iron and copper; or gold, silver and copper, ஓர்மருந்து. திரிலோகாதிபதி, s. Indra, இந்திரன். திரிலோகி, s. A plant, விஷ்ணுகரந்தை. pāṣai (p. 307) s. A language, tongue, speech. W. p. 619. B'HASHA. 2. Secret language; expressive signs or signals, as a mode of communicating ideas, குழூஉக்குறி. 3. Distinctive sounds of birds or beasts, regarded as their language, மிருகமுதலியவற்றின்ஒலிக் குறி. 4. A conditional curse, in which a person binds himself, by oath, to wreak vengeance on his foe, சபதம்.-- The eighteen languages of India are: 1. அங்கம், Bengal proper; 2. அருணம், Agra; 3. கலிங்கம், the Northern cirears, Telinga; 4.கௌசிகம், Cutch, or Carnataca; 5.காம்போசம், Camboja, in the north of India; 6. கொங்கணம், Konkan, on the Malabar coast; 7. கோச லம், Kowsali, or Oude; 8. சாவகம், Javanese, Malacca; 9. சிங்களம், Cingalese; 1. சிந்து, Sind, along the Indus; 11. சீனம், Chinese; 12. சோனகம், Hindustani; 13. திராவிடம். A foreign language; [ex அந்தரம், difference.] பாஷாந்தரமாக்க--பாஷாந்தரப்படுத்த, inf. To translate into another language. பாஷைகூற--பாஷைசொல்ல, s. To swear, to pronounce an imprecation. பாஷைக்காரர், s. [pl.] Europeans, chiefly Englishmen. 2. The owners of a language. பாஷைபங்கம், s. [prov.] A threat of vengeance under oath. பாஷைபடிக்க--பாஷையைப்படிக்க, inf. To learn a language. பாஷைபேச, inf. To speak English. 2. To speak a foreign language. 3. To speak in an unknown tongue. (colloq.) பாஷைப்படுத்த--பாஷையாக்க, inf. To translate. பாஷைப்போக்கு, v. noun. Idiom or style of a language. பாஷையறிந்தவன், appel. n. One who knows a foreign language. பாஷையிட--பாஷைவைக்க, inf. As பாஷைகூற. 31) *

mukāntrm (p. 356) s. Cause, reason, account sake, means, motive, as ஏது; [ex முகம் et அந்தரம்.] அதற்குமுகாந்தரஞ்சொல்லு. Give a reason for it. அவன்முகாந்தரத்தில்வாங்கினேன். I bought it for his sake. முகாந்தரமாக. [as an adv.] On account of, by means of. அந்தமுகாந்தரமாகநான்வரவில்லை. I did not come for that purpose; 2. I was detained on that account. 21)

vaṉam (p. 381) s. A wilderness, an uncultivated country, காடு. 2. A grove surrounding a town, ஊர்சூழ்ந்தசோலை. 3. Water, நீர். W. p. 732. VANA. 4. The basil plant. See துளசி. 5. A place for burning dead bodies, as சுடுவனம். 6. A way, வழி. 7. Beauty, அழகு. (சது.) அங்கேவனமாய்க்கிடக்கிறது. It grows there wild. வனசஞ்சாரம்--வனசஞ்சரிப்பு, s. [appel. வனசஞ்சாரி.] Dwelling, or roaming in a forest, residence in a wilderness. வனசம்--வனருகம், s.[as சலசம்.] A lotus, as water-born தாமரை; [ex சம், உரு கம்.] வனசரம், s. A wild elephant, as living in a forest, or forest-born, வனத்திற்பிறந்த யானை. 2. [prov.] Wilderness, a large jungle, பெருங்காடு. வனசரர்--வனவேடர், s. [pl.] Hunters, foresters. (சது.) வனசுரம், s. Desert, காடு. வனசெந்து, s. Animals of the desert. வனச்சார்பு, s. A sylvan tract, முல்லை நிலம். See சார்பு. வனபூமி, s. A wood-land-country. வனபோசனம், s. A picnic in the woods. 2. A sacred feast held in groves in the month of November to increase the fertility of the fields. வனமல்லிகை, s. The wild jasmine. வனமாலி, s.
