akngkārm (p. 1) s. Pride, self-consequence, கருவம். 2. One of the four intellectual powers, the energy which excites to action, அந்தக்கரணங்களிலொன்று. (See இந்தி ரியம்.) 3. Self-consciousness, individuality, regarding one's self as performing actions instead of the deity as operating within, நானெனுஞ்செருக்கு. 4. (p.) An operating cause of transmigration, பிறவிக்குமூலம்; ex அகம் myself, et காரம் that which acts. அகங்காரகிரந்தி--அகங்காரக்கிரந்தி, s. The bond of the three evil principles, மும்மலம், which bind the soul from eternity, and subject it to births. (p.) அகங்காரத்திரயம், s. acuvam (p. 6) s. A horse, குதிரை. (p.) அசுவகந்தி, s. A medicinal shrub, as அமுக்கிரா, having the smell of a horse. அசுவகந்திசூரணம், s. The medicinal root of that plant. அசுவகந்திதையிலம், s. An ointment from the oil of this root. அசுவசாத்திரம், s. Horsemenship as a science, அசுவபரிட்சை. அசுவதாட்டி, s. The swiftness of a horse, குதிரையின்வேகம். அசுவத்தாமன், s. One of the seven சிரஞ்சீவியர், which see, துரோணன்மகன். (c.) அசுவபரி, s. A shrub, அலரி. (p.) அசுவபரிட்சை--அசுவபரீக்ஷை, s. One of the sixty-four கலைஞானம். The knowledge of the good or bad qualities of a horse. 2. The act of trying the animal. அசவமேதம், s. The sacrifice of a horse, as practiced by former Hindu kings, ஓர்யாகம். அசுவலட்சணம், s. atukku (p. 12) கிறேன், அதுக்கினேன், வேன், அதுக்க, v. a. To press, squeeze, &c., as a boil, a ripe fruit, &c. with the fingers, compress as in the hand, or in a vessel, stuff in as cotton, &c. to a small space, press food, &c. to one side of the mouth, move it about in the mouth in tasting or chewing it, அமுக்க. 2. amukkirā (p. 20) --அமுக்குரா, s. A medicinal shrub, branched winter cherry with a tuberose root, having deobstruent and diuretic qualities. It is pulverized and taken as a decoction, ஓர்மருந்துப்பூடு, Physalis Flexuosa, L. அமுக்கிராக்கிழங்கு, s. The root of the same. 19)

amukku (p. 20) கிறேன், அமுக்கினேன், வேன், அமுக்க, v. a. To crush, press or squeeze, as a fruit, a boil, &c., அமுத்த. 2. Press down, press in or under, as a vessel into water, immerse, depress, press down or in, indent by pressure, அமிழ்த்த. 3. (fig.) To oppress, நெருக்க. நீரிலேசெம்பையமுக்கிமொண்டுவா. Sink the brass pot in the water, draw it up, and bring it. அமுக்கு, v. noun. Compression, depression, oppression as by nightmare, pressure as by the hand of the bailiff, அழுத்துகை. 2. That which compresses, depresses, &c., an incumbent weight, அமுக்குபாரம். அமுக்குண்டு கதறிக்கொண்டுகிடந்தான், He lay crying out, prostrate under the burden. அமுக்கன், s. One who does things secretly, இரகசியத்திற்கருமமுடிப் போன். 2. A sly, cunning person, dissembler, a deceiver, தந்திரகாரன். (c.) 3. [prov.] Nightmare, நித்திரையிலமுக்குமாவி. 20)

There are different species, as எரு மைத்தக்காளி, குட்டித்தக்காளி, சீமைத்தக்காளி, நல்ல தக்காளி, பசுவின்தக்காளி, பிள்ளைத்தக்காளி, பெருந்தக் காளி, பேய்த்தக்காளி, மணத்தக்காளி, and மணித்தக் காளி.
