āciriym (p. 36) --ஆசிரியப்பா, s. A kind of verse of a peculiar metre, being the second of the பா class and giving name to three species of similar character; viz.: தாழிசை, துறை, விருத்தம்; ஆசிரியம் being prefixed to each, அகவற்பா. Holy men who unite themselves to the feet of the Supreme Being. இணைக்கயல், s. A couple of carpfish, figures of which in gold, silver, &c., form one of the eight auspicious articles placed on special occasions as good omens, also as pleasing to the gods, அட் டமங்கலத்தொன்று. 2. One of the emblems of royalty, அரசசின்னத்தொன்று. இணைக்கல்லை, s. Two leaf-plates --as set before a religious mendicant or pandarum, while feeding him. இணைக்குப்போக, inf. [prop. இணை யாகப்போக.] To walk with another, to walk abreast. இணைக்குறளாசிரியப்பா, s. A kind of ஆசிரியப்பா, some of whose middle lines are shorter than the first or last line. இணைமணிமாலை, s. A poem consisting either of the kind of verses called வெண்பா and அகவல், or வெண்பா and கலித்துறை, in hundred verses and composed in accordance with the rule of அந்தாதி--one of the பிரபந்தம். இணைமுரண்டொடை, s. [in poetry.] A kind of ryhme where the first two feet in a line are opposed to each other either in word or meaning, ஓர்தொடை-as சீறடிப்பேரகலல்குல். இணைமோனைத்தொடை, s. A species of rhyme in which the first letters of each of the first two feet are the same. See தொடை. இணையசை, s. A compound metrical syllable, நிரையசை. இணையடி or கழலிணை, s. The two feet. இணையடிசூட, inf. To adorn, crown one's self with the feet (of the deity or guru) regarding them as flowers.--Note. To place the feet of another on one's head, is a figurative form for expressing great reverence, devotedness, respect, &c. இணையளபெடைத்தொடை, s. A verse in which the first letter of the first two feet is protracted. இணையிட்டுப்பார்க்க, inf. To compare one thing with another. இணையியைபுத்தொடை, s. The repetition of the same letter in the last two feet of any line. See தொடை. இணையெதுகைத்தொடை, s. [in poetry.] The rhyming of the second letters of the first two feet in each line. இணையெழுத்து, s. tūngku (p. 252) கிறேன், தூங்கினேன், வேன், தூங்க, v. n. To hang, to hang on, to be suspended, cling to, தொங்க. 2. To be drowsy, to slumber, to sleep, துயில. 3. To be sluggish, inactive, idle, dull, slow, heavy, மந்தமாயிருக்க. 4. To nod, hang the head from drowsiness, தலைசாய. 5. To droop, as a person, or animal, through sorrow, hunger, &c., சோர. 6. To droop, as a plant, be withered, வாட. 7. (fig.) To be fixed, as a fortress, wall, ஓர்நிலை யாய்நிற்க. 8. To tarry, delay, loiter, hang about, தாமதிக்க. 9. To be drowsy and move the body from side to side, as an elephant, அசைவாட, (c.) தூங்கினவன்கன்றுசேங்கன்று. The calf, of the sleeper is but a bull-calf (having been changed while he slept). தூங்கணி, s. A jewel formed of hanging globules of gold and precious stones, தொங்கணி. தூங்கிப்போக, inf. To droop as a person, beast, plant, &;amc., வியாபாரந்தூங்கிப்போயிற்று. Trade is low, on the decline, &c. தாழ்வாரந்தூங்கிப்போயிற்று. The verandah is too low. தூங்காமை, v. noun. (neg.) Vigilance, Watchfulness. தூங்காவிளக்கு, s. A lamp burning day and night. தூங்கிசைச்செப்பல், s. A kind of melody of the metre called வெண்பா. தூங்கிசைத்துள்ளல், s. A melody of the கலிப்பா metre. தூங்கிசையகவல், s. A melody of the ஆசிரியப்பா, metre. தூங்கிருள்நடுநாள், s. Midnight, thick or abiding darkness. தூங்கிவிழ, inf. To nod through drowsiness. (c.) தூங்குபாலம், s. Fordableness, ford, தாண்டுதுறை.-- The நிலை, (attitudes) in archery are; 1. பைசாசம், standing with one leg straight and the other bent, as devils are said to stand; 2. மண்டலம், standing with both knees bent out; 3. ஆலீடம், standing with the right knee bent out, and the left foot advanced; 4. பிரத்தியாலீடம், standing with the left knee bent and the right foot advanced. (சது.)--Note. Some authorities give a fifth posture, சமபாதம், standing with the feet even. நிலையுரியாய்ச்சீலையையுரிந்தான். He stripped or made himself naked. நிலையைவிட்டால்நீச்சு. If the fordable depth be left, one must swim--videlicet, give not up a certainty for an uncertainty. நிலைகலங்க, inf. To set up, establish one's self in better circumstances. 2. To restore to a right state in religion or morals. நிலைநிறுத்தக்கொடுக்க, inf. To fulfil a promise. நிலைநிற்க, inf. To stand firm in one's principles, to persevere, to maintain consistency. 2. To be permanent, lasting or enduring; to remain. நிலைநீங்காமை, s. Steadfastness. நிலைபரம், s. [prov.] Primitive, or native soil, as distinguished from கொட்டுமண், made ground. நிலைமண்டிலஆசிரியப்பா, s. One of the four species of ஆசிரியப்பா. See Beschi's Shen-Tamil Gram. p. 85. நிலைமண்டுதல், v. noun. Making a long stay in a place from home. 2. Sticking closely to a place, as a person, or animal. நிலைமாறுதல், v. noun. Changing place, principles or religion, being proselyted, இடமாறுதல். 2. [in gram.] Being changed in place--as letters, in words, as வைகாசி for வைசாகி, the latter being according to the original, சொல்லினெழுத்துமா றுதல். நிலைமொழி, s. pā (p. 305) s. Web or warp of a weaver, நெச வுபா. See பாவு. 2. Verse, poetry, poesy as பாட்டு, கவி, யாப்பு. &c. 3. A class of verse embracing five varieties, compared to the four castes, and formerly appropriated to them respectively, and one of a mixed form. 1. வெண்பா, the best, or sacerdotal verse, composed of வெண்சீர் or இயற்சீர் feet, or of both arranged in the வெண்டளை mode. See வெண்பா. also Bab. Gram. p. 79. 2. அகவற்பா or ஆசிரியப்பா, the princely or royal verse formed chiefly of இயற்சீர், and the connexion called ஆசிரி யத்தளை. See ஆசிரியம். 3. கலிப்பா, the mercantile or chetty verse, admitting the வெண்சீர் feet, also two of the இயற்சீர், and two வஞ்சிச்சீர். See கலிப்பா. 4. வஞ்சிப்பா, the agricultural, of வஞ்சிச்சீர் but admitting all the others. 5. மருட்பா, in which வெண்பா and ஆசிரியப்பா are intermingled. The stanza begins with two lines of வெண்பா, and the remainder, not limited, is of the ஆசிரியப்பா.-Note. The first four of the above have each three subdivisions, (called பாலினம்.) viz: தாழிசை, துறை and விருத்தம், to the names of which respectively, the general term, or a contraction, is prefixed, thus.
