To wash, bathe, play in water, குளிக்க. 4. To war, fight, join in battle, பொர. 5. To copulate, புணர. 6. [in combination.] To do, to act, செய்ய. 7. To speak, சொல்ல. பணத்துக்காடுகிறான். He is urgently soliciting money. ஆடவை, s. Place of dancing, நிருத்தசபை. ஆடி, s. A dancer. ஆடித்திரிய, inf. To make much ado about a thing. 2. to go around or be too much in company. ஆடுகால், s. The supporters of a lever for a well-sweep. ஆடுதொடை, s. The inner fleshy part of the thigh. ஆடுமாலை, s. [prov.] A gay, lively, laughing girl, young woman. ஆடல், v. noun. Moving, shaking, rocking, &c. 2. Fighting, battle, war. 3. Being powerful. 4. Victory. 5. Playing. 6. Coition. 7. Dancing. 8. Washing, bathing. 9. Boasting, friendly word or conversation. 1. Saying. ஆடல்பாடல், s. Singing and dancing. ஆடற்றரு, s. A dancing song used in comedies. ஆட்டம், v. noun. Motion, vibration, agitation, vacillation, rocking, swinging, rolling or pitching (at sea, &c.), அசைவு. 2. Dance, play, game, prank, an act of play, a turn-about, a turn, once playing the game, விளையாட்டு. 3. Likeness, the assumption of a character, profession, conduct, shape in imitation, தன்மை. 4. Moving about, energy, vigor, action, முயற்சி. (c.) அங்கேபோக ஆட்டமாடுகிறான். He insists on going there, (contrary to advice.) இந்த ஆட்டத்துக்கெல்லாமவனசையான். He will not be moved by this agitation. அவன் ஆட்டந்தீர்ந்தது. He power, bustle, agitation, harassing, &c. has come to an end. அவனிரண்டாட்டம் விளையாடினான் ஓராட்டந் தோற்றுப்போனான். He played two games and lost one of them. ஆட்டமடித்தல், v. noun. A play among children in which the புள்ளு, or small stick, being swung round so as to fly t a distance, is struck by the கிட்டி, or larger stick. ஆட்டமெடுக்க, inf. To enter on a rash or odd enterprise, to beat another in the above play. 10)

āḷ (p. 43) s. A person, grown man, ஆண் மகன். 2. A man of property, power, influence, consequence, &c., ஆடவன். 3. A servant, slave, அடிமை. 4. A laborer, messenger, கூலியாள். 5. A devotee, தொண்டன். 6. The common termination of the third person singular feminine, பெண்பாற்படர்க்கை யொருமைவிகுதி. ஆளானான். He has attained to manhood, has become a person of consequence. அவனதற்காளோ? Is he competent for that? மரங்களாளாய்ப்போயின. The trees have arrived at maturity. ஆட்காட்டி, s. The forefinger, சுட்டுவிரல். 2. A bird, the lapwing, which screeches on the approach of a person by night, ஓர்பறவை. ஆட்கூலி, s. The hire of a workman. ஆட்கொல்லி, s. A murderer, manslayer, homicide, assassin, கொலை காரன். 2. (fig.) Gold, money, பணம். ஆட்கொள்ள, inf. To employ as a servant, admit as a worshipper, devotee, &c.--used in reference to the deity, or a great person--implying grace or condescension in the receiver, and benefit to the person taken, அடிமைகொள்ள. ஆட்பட, inf. To become a servant, devotee, &c., commonly to a deity. 2. [prov.] To rise from obscurity, become a man of some property, or consequence. 3. To come to manhood. 4. To regain strength, &c., after sickness. அவனென்னாலேயாட்பட்டான். He became eminent by me. ஆட்படுத்த, inf. To adopt one as a devotee, servant, &c. 2. To raise a person from obscurity. 3. To rear, bring up a person from a child to a man, cherish, nourish. ஆட்பார்க்க, inf. To seek another. 2. To watch as a thief, guard himself against detection. 3. To look for persons for any bad purpose--as a prostitute, &c.--as Yama the god of death. ஆட்பார்த்துழலுமருளில்கூற்றுண்மையால். Since Yama the merciless god of death, who goes about looking for his victims, does actually exist. (நாலடி). ஆளரி, s. Vishnu in his incarnation as a lion. ஆளன்கீழப்பெண்சாதி, s. A wife. ஆளானவன், s. One who is arrived at the state of manhood. 2. One who is become eminent, or exalted over others. ஆளொட்டி--ஆளொதுங்கி, s. A hiding place, மறைவு. 2. A sentry-box, காவற்கூடு. ஆளோட்டி, s. A slave-driver, task-master, overseer of workmen, ஆளை வேலைகொள்வோன். ஆள்தேறுதல், v. noun. Recovering strength or stoutness. ஆள்த்திட்டம்--ஆட்டிட்டம், s. Depth, capacity of a person. 2. Marks for recognizing a person, recognizance. ஆள்வணங்கி, s. A tree, Ficus, L. ஆள்வினை, s. Energy, alacrity, diligence, application, exertion, perseverance, an enterprise, முயற்சி. 2. A fruit in its season. பருவஞ்சொல்ல, inf. To propose measures, advise how to act. பருவநாடி, s. Time of conjunction or opposition of sun and moon. பருவந்தப்ப, inf. To pass the season. பருவப்பனை, s. The female tree of the Palmyra species. 2. The palmyra tree that bears fruit at the proper season. See பனை. பருவப்பாளை, s. The flower of the Palmyra occurring in its season. பருவமழை, s. Seasonable rain. பருவமுயற்சி, v. noun. Application in due season. (நன்.) பருவம்பார்க்க, inf. To consider or devise measures, to thing how to act. 2. To seek opportunity. பருவம்பிழைக்க, inf. The six stages of life in males, are; பாலன், a child under five years; 2. காளை, from five to sixteen; 3. குமாரன், or விடலை, sixteen to thirtytwo; 4. ஆடவன், or மன்னன், thirty-two to forty-eight; 5. மூத்தோன், or ஆடவவிருத் தன், forty-eight to sixty-four; 6. விருத் தன், above the age of sixty-four. ஆடவர்மகளிர்பருவம், 6. The six stages of males and females, are: வற்சம், infancy; 2. பாலியம், childhood; 3. யௌ வனம், adolescence; 4. கௌமாரம், manhood or womanhood; 5. விருத்தம், maturing age; 6. வார்த்தவ்வியம், senility. The divisions in the life of a female are of two kinds; 1. மகளிர்பருவம், 4. Four stages; 1. வாலை or பாலை, a girl to the age of maturity; 2. தருணி, a young woman; 3. பிரவிடை-பிரௌடை, a middle aged woman; 4. விருத்தை, an old woman. II. மகளிர்பருவம், 7. Seven stages of life in the female; 1. பேதை, from five to seven years of ages inclusive; 2. பெது ம்பை, eight to eleven; 3. மங்கை, from twelve to thirteen; 4. மடந்தை, from fourteen to nineteen; 5. அரிவை, from twenty to twenty-five; 6. தெரிவை, from twenty-six to thirty-one; 7. பேரிளம்பெ ண், from thirty-two to forty.--Note. According to the நிகண்டு, seven, and upwards, is the period for the first stage; and so on through the table. பருவத்திலேபிள்ளைபெற்றாள்.
