cilmṉ (p. 186) s. [prov. improp. for சிலம்பல்.] Noise, motion, &c., as a signal, அசுமாற்றம். ஆட்சிலமன். Frequent noise, stir of people. அவர்வந்த சிலமனில்லை. There is no appearance of his having come. 20)

cumai (p. 194) s. [vul. செமை.] A burden, load, weight, பாரம். 2. Bounden duty, obligation, responsibility, accountability, onerousness, கடமை. 3. The burden of a family, of state, &c., குடும்பபாரம்; [ex சும, v.] (c.) சுமைகட்ட, inf. To make up a load. 2. To place a burden on one. சுமைகாரன்--சுமையாள், s. A porter, a carrier. 2. A man with a load, a bearer. சுமைகூலி, s. Porterage. சுமைதலை, s. See சுமதலை. சுமைதாங்கி, s. A platform of stone, brick or timbers, by the road side, to rest burdens upon. (c.) சுமைதீர்தல், v. noun. The removing of a burden--spoken of the marriage of a daughter, or relief from any heavy responsibility. சுமைதூக்கிவிட, inf. As சுமைகட்ட, 2. சுமைமாற்ற, inf. To change the position of a load, for relief. (c.) சுமையடை, s. A pad for the head, சும்மாடு; [ex அடை.] சுமையிறக்க, inf. A lay down a load. 2. To discharge a weighty obligation. 3. To transfer one's responsibilities. சுமையிறக்கி, s. [prov.] As சுமைதாங்கி. சுமையெடுக்க, inf. To take up or carry a load. 2. To engage in a weighty concern. ஆட்சுமை, s. A coolie load.
