āytm (p. 40) s. The letter ஃ, so called from the indistinctness of its sound, or from the peculiarity and minuteness of its form. It is chiefly a consonant, but sometimes occurs as a vowel; yet it cannot be confounded with another letter, தனிநிலை. (p.) ஆய்தக்குறுக்கம், s. To spell, join letters. எழுத்துக்கூட்டாமல்வாசிக்க, inf. To read fluently. எழுத்துச்சந்தி, s. Union of letters in the combination of words, எழுத்துப்பு ணர்ச்சி. எழுத்துச்சாரியை--எழுத்தின்சாரி யை, s. Particles employed to express the names of the letters--as அ with the consonants; கரம், காரம் and கான் with the short letters and sometimes with the consonants; காரம் with the long vowels and கான் with ஐ and ஔ. In common use, ன is used with the short, and ஆன and அன்னா with the long letters. Some other forms are also given in ancient grammars and they are also occasionally used. எழுத்துச்சுருக்கம், s. A kind of play on letters by omitting one after another in regular succession, and thus changing the sense, ஓரணி. எழுத்துச்சேலை--எழுத்துப்புடவை, s. A woman's fancy dress whether printed or embroidered, சித்திரவஸ்திரம். எழுத்துத்திரிதல், v. noun. Permutation of letters--the change of one letter for another according to grammatical rules, for the purposes of euphony, மூவிகாரத்தொன்று. எழுத்துநடை, s. Easy and fluent reading. எழுத்துப்படிய, s. inf. To become trained--as the hand to writing; to have a settled hand. எழுத்துப்பதிக்க, inf. To indent in writing, பதியவெழுத. 2. To enter, write, imprint, settle an affair by writing. எழுத்துப்பதிய, inf. To be indented--as writing, engraving. 2. To be entered, written. எழுத்துப்பிழை--எழுத்துப்பிசகு, s. Error in spelling. எழுத்துப்பொருத்தம், s. The five classes into which the letters are superstitiously divided. (See தசப்பொருத்தம்.) 2. Choosing a name for a child so as to begin with one of the letters ascribed in astrology to the lunar mansion, under whose influence the child is supposed to have been born, பிறந்தநட்சத்திரத்திற்குப் பொருந்தப்பெயரிடுகை. எழுத்துமடக்கு, s. Repetition of, the same letter in a verse, ஓரணி--as நா நாநாதம்கூடிசைநாடுந்தொழிலேவாய். எழுத்துவருத்தனம், s. A kind of diversion by means of poetry, a play on letters, the meaning changing as letters are added. See மிறைக்கவி. எழுத்துவாசனை, s. The art of reading and writing, எழுத்துநடை. எழுத்துவேலை, s. Chintz-painting, சீலையின்மீதெழுதுகை. 2. Writing, transcribing, copying, எழுதுந்தொழில். எழுத்தொலி--எழுத்தோசை, s. The sound of a letter. நுணுக்கெழுத்து, s. A character or letter written unintelligibly. கிறுக்கெழுத்து, s. A letter erased, cancelled; a letter badly written. கூட்டெழுத்து, s. Double letters, letters written together in a contracted form--as 9 for க்க; ட்ட for ட்ட; ? for த்த, &c. நீர்மேலெழுத்து, s. An inscription on the water--a simile expressive of that which is evanescent. கல்மேலேழுத்து, s. An inscription on a stone expressive of that which is stable and enduring. நல்லோரொருவர்க்குச்செய்தவுபகாரங் கன்மேலெழுத்துப்போற்காணுமே--அல்லாத ஈரமிலாநெஞ்சத்தார்க்கீந்தவுபகாரம் நீர்மேலெழுத்திற்குநேர். The valued favors the deserving gain, Like sculptures in eternal rock remain; Of virtue's tribute charity is sure: But kind attentions to the worthless shown, Who debts and duties evermore disown, Like letters written in the wave endure. முதுவெழுத்து--தேறியவெழுத்து, s. A very wicked person, கெட்டவன். நச்சுக்காற்று, s. An unhealthy wind. See காற்று. நச்சுக்குழல், s. [vul.] A long tube for shooting birds with clay pellets, புட்ப டுக்குங்குழல். 2. A telescope, துரதிஷ்டிக்க ண்ணாடி. நச்சுக்கொடி, s. The after-birth, secundines, as நஞ்சுக்கொடி.(c.) நச்சுக்கொடிச்சுண்ணம், s. A spotted kind of wall-lizard, whose excrement is used in witcheraft. 2. The chirp of a lizard from a direction which prognosticates evil, and causes one leaving home to turn back. 3. A woman whose words are malignant. நச்சுப்பல்லிபோலேதடுக்கிறான். He stops one like an ominous lizard. நச்சுப்பார்வை, s. Bewitching, amorous, libidinous looks, ogling, மோகப்பார்வை. (p.) 2. A blighting, ominous look, கண் ணேறு. 3. An angry, maliciouse appearance, கோபப்பார்வை. நச்சுப்பால், s. The poisonous milky juice of the spurge-class of shrubs. கள்ளிப்பால். 2. Though the tree be poisonous will the planter cut it up; i. e. though a man be evil, his patron is not the one to reject him. நச்சுமருந்து, s. Poisonous medicine. நச்சுமழை, s. An unhealthy or pernicious rain being untimely, not plentiful, &c., காலந்தப்பியமழை. நச்சுவாக்கு, s. Malign words of some particular poets. நச்சுவாய், s. The mouth of one whose words are blighting, விஷவாக்கு. நச்சுவிறகு, s. Poisonous fuel, used in witchcraft, &c. நச்செண்ணெய், s. A kind of poisonous oil, for curing sores, விஷதைலம். நச்செலி, s.
