amai (p. 20) கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், ய, v. n. To yield, come to a right state, submit, comply, obey, acquiesce, சம்மதிக்க. 2. To become settled, peaceable, quiet; to subside, படிய. 3. To be at one's disposal, as a thing that may be effected, acquired, brought to good order, &c., வசமாக. 4. To fit, suit, join nicely, be adapted to, இசைய. 5. To be destined, be subject to a divine appointment or destiny, good or bad, விதிக்குட்பட. 6. To be made, formed, adjusted, திருந்த. 7. To be satisfied, contented, composed, comfortable, resigned, திருத்தியாக. 8. (in the third person only) To be enough, sufficient, போ துமாக. 9. To happen, occur, come to pass, சம்பவிக்க. 1. To belong to, be connected or combined with, be appropriate to, பொ ருந்த. 11. To be obtained, அமர. (p.)--Note. Most of the meanings of this word have reference to the mind. சாஸ்திரத்திற்கமைந்துநடக்கிறவன், He is one who obeyed the shasters. ஐம்புலனமைந்தவன், s. One who has suppressed the five senses, or to whom the senses are subject. இது என்விசாரணைக்கமைந்த காரியம். It is a matter at my disposal. என்விருப்பத்திற்கமைந்தபடிநடந்தது. It has occurred to my satisfaction. சுகதுக்கம் ஊழின்படி அமையும். Good and evil are appointed according to former character. செயுநீர்மைசெய்யாதமைகலாவாறு. Owing to dissatisfaction at inability to do charity. (குறள். 22. அதி.) அமையவுண்மின். Eat enough. இரட்சிப்பு இறைவனுக்கமைந்தது. Salvation is of God. அமையாமை, neg. v. noun. Unsubmission, insubordination, disquietness, unfitness, கீழ்ப்படியாமை. அமைவு, v. noun. Subjection, subordination, acquiescence, பொருந்துகை. 2. Composure of mind, tranquillity, contentment, மனவமைதி. 3. Repression of the senses, subjection of the mental powers, அடக்கம். அமைவடக்கம், s. Concealment, security, silence. அமைவன், s. irṇṭu (p. 49) s. and adj. Two, இரண்டா மெண்.-- As an adjective prefix, it often becomes இரு and ஈர், double, இரட்டிப்பான-as இருநிறம், two colors, a double color; ஈர லகு, two syllables. See அலகு. இரண்டிலொன்றுசொல்லு. Say either this or that. நாடிரண்டுபட்டது. The country is divided into two factions. இரட்ட, inf. To double, repeat a motion, sound, action, &c., to reiterate. See இரட்டிக்க. இரட்டாங்காலி, s. [prov. prop. இரட்டைமரம்.] A double tree--especially of the palmyra species. இரட்டி, s. Double quantity, twice as much, இருபங்கு. அதற்கிரட்டிதருவேன். I will give double the quantity. பத்திரட்டி, s. Twice ten. இரட்டிக்க, inf. To double, repeat, reiterate, இரட்ட. 2. (c.) To return --as a disease, வியாதிமக்களிக்க. 3. To plough the second time, always crosswise, இரண்டாமுறையுழ. 4. To differ from, be discrepant, &c., வேறுபட. 5. To disagree--as different kinds of food eaten at once, to be indigested, போசனம் ஒவ்வா திருக்க. இந்தச்சாட்சியந்தச்சாட்சிக்கிரட்டிக்கிறது. This evidence differs from the other. மகரமிரட்டித்தது. The consonant ம், is doubled. நோயிரட்டிக்கின்றது. The pain is double what it was. 2. The disease has returned. இரட்டித்தசெலவு, s. Double expense. இரட்டித்துச்சொல்ல, inf. To repeat, say a thing a second time. 2. To make a discrepant statement, or a statement different from that of another. உழவிரட்டிக்க, inf. To plough the second time. இரட்டிப்பு, s. Two-fold, twice as much, a double quantity. 2. v. noun. Doubling, making two-fold. இரட்டு, s. Two-fold, இருமடங் கு. (p.) 2. (c.) Double-threaded cloth, either coarse or fine, sack-cloth, ஓர்வ கைச்சீலை. இரட்டுப்பை, s. A sack made of coarse cloth. இரட்டுறமொழிய, inf. To state a rule so that it may comprise another, the one plainly apparent, the other to be made out by study; or the use of terms of double meaning either of which serves to make good sense, though the ideas will be wholly different; or the use of terms by which one thing is employed and another implied. See உத்தி. (p.) இரட்டை, s. Two things naturally conjoined--as a double fruit, leaf, &c.; twins, two things alike, இரண்டொன் றானது. 2. (p.) Gemini in the zodiac, two females, மிதுனராசி. 3. Even, even numbers--opposed to ஒற்றை, இரட்டையெண்-as 6, 8, 24, &c. 4. A couple, tow, சேரடு. 5. A female songster, பாடுவிச்சி. ஒற்றையிரட்டைபிடித்தல். A kind of play, playing at odd and even. இரட்டைக்கிளவி, s. Double words imitating certain sounds, ஒலிக்கு றிப்பில்வருமிரட்டைமொழி--as சளசளவெனமழை த்தாரைகான்றன. (The clouds) poured a shower of rain, with a murmuring sound. (இராமா.) (p.) இரட்டைச்சுழி, s. The symbol ை of the vowel ஐ. 2. Two curls in horses, cattle, &c.--as இருசுழி. இரட்டைத்தொடை, s. One of the forty-three kinds of rhyme in which the same word is repeated through the line, (see தொடை)--as ஒக் குமே யொக்குமே யொக்குமே யொக்கும் விளக்கினு ட்சீறெரியொக்குமே யொக்கும் குளக்கொட்டிப்பூவி னிறம், the color of the flower of the water-plant கொட்டி, resembles the delicate flame of the lamp. (p.) இரட்டைப்படவெண்ண, inf. To count even, making a series increasing by a common ratio--as 2, 4, 6, &c. இரட்டைப்பாக்கு, s. An arecanut with two eyes producing, if planted, two trees. இரட்டைப்பிள்ளை, s. Twins. 2. [prov.] A double young areca or cocoa-nut tree. இரட்டைப்புரிக்கயிறு, s. A rope or string made of two strands. இரட்டைமணிமாலை, s. A poem consisting of twenty verses of வெண்பா and கலித்துறை, or நேரிசைவெண்பா and ஆசி ரியவிருத்தம், and composed according to the rules of அந்தாதி. See பிரபந்தம். (p.) இரண்டகம், s. Treachery, perfidy, duplicity, dissimulation, double-dealing, துரோகம். (c.) இரண்டகம்நினைக்க, inf. To frame a treacherous design. இரண்டகம்பண்ண, inf. To betray, act treacherously, perfidiously. இரண்டகவாதி, s. A treacherous person, an insincere friend, துரோகி. இரண்டன்மை, s. Sameness, (lit.) being not two--as அத்துவைதம், which see. இரண்டாந்தரம், s. Secondary kind or class--as of cloth, tobacco, &c. 2. The second time. இரண்டாம்பட்சம், s. Second or secondary class, kind, &c., not the most approved. இரண்டாம்பாட்டன், s. A great grand-father, மூதாதை. இரண்டாவது, s. That which is the second. 2. adv. Secondly. இரண்டுக்குப்போக, inf. [vul.] To go to stool, (usage of children.) இரண்டுக்குற்றது, s. Critical juncture, a crisis in a disease, சாத்தியமோவசர த்தியமோவென்பது. 2. Dubiousness, possibility of two contrary impending issues, a double probability, இதுவோவதுவோவெ ன்கை. இரண்டுங்கெட்ட நேரம், s. [vul.] The dusk of the evening, used for an inauspicious or untimely season, &c. இரண்டுங்கெட்டவன், s. An indifferent man, neither good nor bad. இரண்டுசொல்ல, inf. To evade, refuse, give an indirect or evasive answer. இரண்டுசெய்ய, inf. To act perfidiously. 2. To act against one's command, to behave disobediently. இரண்டுநினைக்க, inf. To be hypocritical, to meditate treachery under a show of honesty. இரண்டுபட, inf. To vary from, differ in the issue or event, disagree, dissent, become opposed, வேறுபட. 2. To be discrepant, appear discordant, &c., ஒற்றுமையின்றாக. 3. To be doubtful, ஐயுற. இரண்டுபடுத்த, inf. To disjoin, disunite, cause to differ, sow dissension. இரண்டுபண்ண, inf. To act treacherously. இரு. Two, as இரண்டு and ஈர். இருகந்தம், s. Good and bad smell, இருமணம். (p.) இருகால், s. [vul. இருக்கால்.] Twice, இரண்டுவிசை. 2. Two feet, இருதாள். இருகாழி, [prov. இருக்காழி.] A palmyra or இருப்பை fruit with two kernels, இரண்டுகொட்டையுடையகாய்; [ex காழ், seed.] இருகுறணேரிசைவெண்பா, s. A நேரிசைவெண்பா, consisting of two குறள் வெண்பா, and a foot affixed to the second line for the sake of harmony, ஓர் வகைவெண்பா. (p.) இருக்கால், s. A certain cast of the dice in playing a game, கவற்றிற்குறித் தவோரெண். (c.) இருசமயவிளக்கம், s. A controversial treatise on the merits of Saivaism and Vishnuism, ஓர்நூல். இருசமயவிளக்கச்சூறாவளி, s. A treatise written in confutation of the above. இருசீரகம், s. The two different kinds of சீரகம்--as நற்சீரகம் and கருஞ்சீரகம், which see. இருசுடர், s. The two lights--the sun and moon, சூரியசந்திரர். (p.) இருசுடர்த்தோற்றம், s. One of the divisions of பெருங்காப்பியம், சூரியசந்திரோத யங்களின்வருணனை. (p.) இருசுழி, s. A double curl as a mark. இருசுழியிருந்துண்டாலுமுண்ணும் இரந்துண்டா லுமுண்ணும். A person of a double curl may live in luxury or be reduced to beggary. இருதலைக்கொள்ளி, s. A brand burning at both ends. ஒருதலைக்கொள்ளிநடுவிலெறும்பைப்போலானே ன். I am like an ant between two fires; i. e. I am in straits. இருதலைப்பட்சி, s. A kind of bird fabled to have two heads. இருதலைமணியன், s. A snake said to have two heads--one at each end. இருதாரைக்கத்தி, s. Two-edged sword or knife. இருதிணை, s. The two classes உயர்திணை and அஃறிணை into which Tamil nouns are divided. (See திணை.) 2. The two classes into which creatures are divided, இயங்குதிணை and இயங்கரத்திணை, which see. (p.) இருநிதிக்கிழவன், s. Kuvêra, கு பேரன். (p.) இருநினைவு, s. The twiceborn caste--Brahmans; investiture with the sacred thread being deemed a kind or regeneration, அந்தணர். இருபெயரொட்டுப்பண்புத்தொகை, s. Omission of ஆகிய or ஆய where two nouns are used in opposition, ஓர்பண்புத் தொகை--as ஆதிபகவன். God the source (of all things.) இருபொருள், s. Learning and riches. See பொருள். (p.) இருமடங்கு, s. The two classes of beings produced--சரம் and அச ரம். See தோற்றம். (p.) இருவாட்டித்தரை, s. [prov.] Land compounded of earth and clay, மணலுங் களிப்புமானநிலம். இருவாய்க்குருவி, s. A kind of bird, Hormbill, buceros, ஓர்குருவி. இருவினை, s. The two classes of moral actions--good and evil, in every one of which there is merit or demerit, leading to future births in which they are to be suffered or enjoyed, while they keep the soul from union with deity, நல்வினை தீவினை. (p.) ஈர். An adjective of இரண்டு, two --used before words beginning with vowels, &c., as இரு is used before consonants--as ஈராயிரம், two-thousand; இருபது, twenty. ஈரசைச்சீர், s. A poetic foot of two அசை, ஆசிரியச்சீர். (p.) ஈரடி, s. Two lines, இணையடி. (p.) 2. That which is bifurcate or two forked, கவர். 3. Doubtfulness, fluctuation, சந்தேகம். ஈரடிப்பயன், s. Ambiguity in conversation, equivocation, double-mindedness, உபயார்த்தம். 2. Double-dealing, acting under-handedly so as to suit both parties, கபடம். 3. Uncertainty, doubtfulness, சந்தேகம். 4. [prov.] Diverseness, disagreement--as of a report or account differently related, விகற்பம்; [ex அடி, step, course, et பயன், meaning.] ஈரடிப்பா, s. A stanza of two lines. (p.) ஈரடிமடக்கு, s. [in poetry.] Repetition of a foot or feet in two lines with different meanings, வந்தசொல்லேயிரண்டடி யினும்வரப்பாடுவது. See மடக்கு. ஈரடிவெண்பா, s. A kind of வெ ண்பா of two lines--the குறள்வெண்பா. (p.) ஈரடுக்கொலி, s. Reiterated words imitative of sound--as நெறுநெறென்றுமுறிந் தது, it broke with a reiterated crash; வண்டில்கடகடென்றோடிற்று, the carriage rolled along with a rattling noise. (p.) ஈரறம், s. The two kinds of அறம், or virtuous actions according to the shasters; viz.: இல்லறம், matrimony and its accompanying household virtues; and துறவறம், the virtues of ascetic practice. (p.) ஈரறிவுயிர், s. Beings that have the sense of feeling and tasting--as snails, shells, &c., பரிசமுஞ்சுவையுமறியும்நந்துமுதலிய செந்து. (p.) ஈராசிடைவெண்பா, s. A species of வெண்பா, with two ஆசு affixed to the end of the third foot of the second line. (p.) ஈராடி--ஈராட்டி, s. [prov.] A changeable state of the wind and weather, previous to the change of monsoon, indicative of rain. 2. A calm, a lull, the failing of the wind at this season, காற்றினமைவு. 3. Fickleness, hesitation, fluctuation of mind, நிலையின்மை. இக்காரியத்திலென்மனமீராடிப்படுகின்றது. In this affair my mind wavers. ஈராட்டி, s. [prov.] Two wives. ஈரி, s. A play of girls, two stones being taken up from the ground while a third is tossed in the air, ஓர்விளையாட்டு. (c.) ஈரிலைப்பயிர், s. A young shoot when two leaves appear. ஈரிழை, s. Double-thread used in some kinds of cloth--as in muslin. ஈரிழைச்சல்லா, s. A muslin whose warp consists of two untwisted threads. ஈரீற்றா, s. A cow that has had two calves. (p.) ஈருடல், s. [in mythology.] Beings possessing the form, in part, of two bodies--as Vishnu manifested in the form of man and lion, இருதன்மைத்தாயவுடல். (p.) ஈருயிர்க்காரி, s. The two-lived --used of a pregnant female. (c.) ஈரெச்சம், s. See எச்சம். ஈரொட்டு, s. Uncertainty, doubt, crisis, criticalness, state of suspense, conditional bargain. (c.) நோயாளியின்காரியமீரொட்டாயிருக்கின்றது. The case of the patient is doubtful. ஈரொட்டாகச்சொல்ல, inf. To speak doubtfully, uncertainly, ambiguously. ஈரொட்டாகவாங்க, inf. To take things conditionally, that is, if approved; or, as a merchant, to pay for them if sold. 6)

I give this for or instead of that. அவளுக்கவனீடல்ல. He is not a suitable match for her. ஈடழிய, inf. To suffer the loss of power, dignity, wealth, &c., to become poor, பெருமைகுன்ற. ஈடழிவு, v. noun. Loss of power, property, dignity, &c., சீர்கேடு. ஈடன், s. A strong, competent, wealthy man, பெருமையுடையோன். ஈடன்பாடஞ்சான். A wealthy man will not fear losses. ஈடாட, inf. To compete with another, நேர்நிற்க. 2. [prov.] To be loose--as a tooth, a nail, the spokes of a wheel, to joggle, உழல. ஈடாட்டம், v. noun. Competing or matching with another. 2. Pecuniary ability, the free use of money--as by a rich merchant, கொடுக்கல்வாங்கல். 3. Being loose--as a nail, &c., உழலுகை. ஈடுகட்ட--ஈடுபண்ண, inf. To give security, பிணைகொடுக்க. 2. To make amends, restitution, reprisals, &c., to identify, ஈடுசெய்ய. ஈடுகொடுக்க--ஈடுசெலுத்த, inf. To reward, give an equivalent, to content, பதிலளிக்க. 2. To bear, tolerate, endure, yield, &c., ஈடுகட்ட. அவனுக்கீடுகொடுக்கமுடியாது. It is impossible to give him satisfaction. வீடுபலக்கக்கட்டினாற்புயலுக்குமீடுகொடுக்கும். If the house be strongly built, it will endure the storm. அவனுக்கிவனீடுகொடுக்கமாட்டான். This person cannot compete with him. ஈடுபாடு, s. Loss and gain, நய நஷ்டம். 2. Substitution, ஒப்பு. ஈடேற, inf. To be emancipated from sin, births, &c., to obtain final happiness, உய்ய. 2. To be saved from ruin and be rendered secure, to rise from indigence to prosperity, to be completely rescued from distress, difficulty, danger, disease, &c., வாழ்வடைய. கன்னிகையீடேறிவிட்டாள். The girl has attained a marriage settlement. அந்தக்குடியீடேறிவிட்டது. That family is rescued from indigence, saved from ruin. &c. ஈடேற்ற, inf. To deliver, rescue, இரட்சிக்க. 2. To raise one from distress, indigence, &c. to the attainment of the desired good, to promote, to establish in good circumstances. வாழ்வடை யச்செய்ய. 3. To redeem, emancipate from births, &c., மீட்க. ஈடேற்றப்பட, inf. To be saved, delivered, rescued from ruin indigence, distress, &c., to be rendered secure against danger, &c., இரட்சிக்கப்பட. ஈடேற்றம், s. Final and eternal happiness, the liberation of the soul from the body and its exemption from further transmigrations, and translation to a permanent state of happiness, final emancipation, பேரின்பவாழ்வு. 2. Deliverance from a state of suffering, indigence, &c., உய்வு. 3. The marriage of a destitute girl under favorable auspices, கன்னிகையீடேற்றம். ஈட்டுக்கீடு, s. Like for like, retaliation, requital. கடையீடு, s. Ground the lowest in value and assessment. தலையீடு, s. A very fruitful soil, known to be such by its aspect. 6)

utti (p. 60) s. Union, agreement, connection, இசைவு. Wils. p. 685. YUKTI. 2. The art which a scientific or literary author employs in treating his subject-such as the general plan, divisions, subdivisions, mode of discussion, examples, quoting authorities, showing how the sentiments of others agree with, or differ from his own, &c. In the பாயிரம் of நன்னூல், thirty-two particulars are given as proper to be kept in view by such writers, தந்திரவு த்தி. oṟṟai (p. 84) s. One of a pair, ஒன்று. 2. Odd numbers--as 1, 3, 5, &c., odd, ஒற் றையெண். 3. Singleness, தனிமை. 4. Soleness, uniqueness, absoluteness, தன்னந்தனி. 5. A leaf in a book, தனியேடு. 6. A row of small patches of ground in a corn-field, adjoining one side of a cross channel. ஒற்றையோஇரட்டையோ. Is it even or odd? ஒற்றிக்க, inf. v. n. To be odd as numbers--as 1, 3, 5, ஒற்றைப்பட. 2. To be unwavering, be settled in mind or purpose, to be decided, ஒன்றுபட. ஒற்றித்தமனம், s. A single mind, sincerity. 2. Freedom from doubt, decision of mind. ஒற்றித்தவெண், s. Odd numbers, ஒற்றைப்பட்டவெண். ஒற்றைக்கண்ணன், s. Venus, சுக் கிரன். 2. kuvera, குபேரன். (p.) ஒற்றைக்குடை, s. An unique umbrella--an emblem of independent sovereignty. ஒற்றைக்குடையினாளுதல், v. noun. Exercising absolute sovereignty. ஒற்றைக்கொம்பன், s. Ganesa, the single-tusked--as an elephant, the other tusk having been broken off, வினாயகன். ஒற்றைச்சார், s. [prov.] A house without an area in the centre. ஒற்றைத்தாலி, s. A single wedding ornament without the accompaniments which are sometimes added on a future day. See சங்குந்தாலியும். ஒற்றைத்தாழ்ப்பூட்டு, s. A lock with a single bolt or a single lock. ஒற்றைத்துலா, s. A well-lever formed of one solid timber, ஒற்றையேற்றம். See மூட்டுத்துலா or நெம்புத்துலா. ஒற்றைநூல், s. A three-twined sacred thread--as worn by a bachelor. ஒற்றைநூற்புடவை, s. Single threaded cloth, தனியிழை. ஒற்றைப்படவெண்ணுதல், v. noun. Counting by odd numbers. 2. Counting things one by one. ஒற்றைப்பட்டு, s. One of several strings of a necklace, folds, strands. ஒற்றைப்பட்டுமணி, s. A single necklace. ஒற்றைப்பார்ப்பான், s. A single brahman, whose sight is deemed inauspicious whether as the first object in the morning, or at any time on leaving home for some special purpose. ஒற்றைப்புரிக்கயிறு, s. A rope formed of a single strand, ஒருபுரிக்கயிறு. ஒற்றையாழித்தேர், s. The chariot of the sun being single-wheeled, சூரியனு டையதேர். ஒற்றையாழித்தேரோன், s. The sun --he whose chariot has but one wheel, சூரியன். (p.) ஒற்றையாள், s. A single person-as a traveller, an inhabitant or as one having no relations, ஒருஆள். ஒற்றையிதழ்ப்பூ, s. A monopetalous flower, ஓரிதழ்ப்பூ. ஒற்றையிரட்டைபிடித்தல், v. noun. Playing at odd and even. ஒற்றையோலைப்பாய், s. Mats braided with single olas. ஒற்றையோலைப்பெட்டி, s. Baskets made of single olas. ஒற்றைவாய்க்கணக்கு, s. A calculation made by a single operation, whether once adding, subtracting, multiplying or dividing. கடுக்கனொற்றை, s. One of a pair of ear-rings. 30)

kṭ (p. 87) க்கிறேன், ந்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To jump, leap, or bound over, to step or stride over, தாண்ட. 2. To pass or get over, to cross, pass through a river, a country, &c., to traverse, கடந்துபோக. 3. To exceed, go beyond, surpass, அளவிறக்க. 4. To go too far, transgress, deviate from rule, disobey, violate to command, a custom, &c., மீற. 5. To go, pass by, proceed, pass--as time, water, clouds, shadow, &c., to become obsolete, செல்ல. 6. To relinquish, surmount, escape from the sea of births, the world, &c. (ஞா. 5.) 7. To depart from, நீங்க. 8. To overcome, conquer, vanquish, செயிக்க. நீங்கிக்கடப்பனேல். If I depart (from her)-அவனையூணக்கடக்கத்துரத்தினார்கள், They drove him out of the town. கூற்றைக்கடத்தலரிது. It is difficult to escape from Yama (the regent of the dead). வியாதிகடந்துபோயிற்று. The disease is past cure. மண்டமர்கடந்தவொள்வேலின்மின்னி. Glittering like the shining spear which had gained many a hard-fought battle-காவல்கடந்து. Entering by force in spite of the guard-- (கைலாய.) நீதிநெறிகடவான். He will not deviate from the path of virtue. ஆறுகடக்குமளவும்அண்ணன்தம்பியெனல் ஆறுக டந்தால்நீயார்நானாரெனல். We were brothers till we had passed the river but since then we are strangers; i. e. since he got his object he does not care for me. கடத்தேற--கடந்தேற, inf. To be saved. கடத்தேற்ற, inf. To save, to rescue, to bestow a permanent good, இர ட்சிக்க. கடத்தேற்றம், v. noun. Deliverance, final emancipation, இரட்சிப்பு. கடந்தஎண்ணம், s. Excessive ambition, self-conceit. கடந்தஞானம், s. Transcendent wisdom. கடந்தநிலை, s. A transcendent degree--that of the ascetic. கடந்தேற, inf. To rise to a higher degree in religion, நற்கதியடைய. 2. To pass safely through disasters, difficulties, &c., to be saved, இடையூறுகடக்க. அணைகடந்தவெள்ளம், s. A flood overflowing an embankment. ஆணைகடத்தல், v. noun. Violating an oath. 2. Disobeying the orders of a superior. 3. Disregarding the solemn adjuration of a conjurer--as wild beasts. கடப்பு, v. noun. Passing over, க டக்கை. 2. s. A stile or other contrivance in a lane or hedge which a man may pass over or through, but not cattle, இடுக்குமரமுதலியன. கடப்புக்கால், s. [prov.] Bandy legs, வளைந்தகால். கடவான், s. [prov.] A channel cut in the ridge of a rice-field to let the surplus water pass away, or for watering the next field, நீர்மடை. கடவு, s. [prov.] Way, path, வழி. கடவுமரம், s. A turn-stile--as கடவை. கடவை, s. Fault, defect, crime, குற்றம். (பிங்.) 2. A leap, jump, passing over, கடக்கை. 3. The door of a native house, garden, &c., the sill of which is to be stepped over, வாயில். 4. A ladder, ஏணி. 5. A break or opening in a fence with some obstructions or stoppage at the bottom, வேலியினிடைவெளி. 6. [prov.] a stile, &c., in a path to exclude cattle, கடப்பு. கடவைப்பட, inf. To be going away--as a troublesome or mischievous person, நீங்க. 2. To disappear as property by stealth, காணாமற்போக. 2)

kaṉṉikai (p. 102) s. A virgin undefloured, a girl unmarried, கன்னிமையழிவில்லாள். 2. The five கன்னிகை, viz.: அகலிகை, the wife of கௌதமன்; துரோபதை, the wife of the பஞ்ச பாண்்டவர் or five brothers, sons of the king பாண்டு; சீதை, the wife of இராமன்; தாரை the wife of வாலி; and மண்டோதரி, the wife of இரா வணன். 3. (p.) The pericarp of a lotus, தாம ரைப்பூங்கொட்டை. Wils. p. 196. KARNIKA. 4. A flower-bud, பூவரும்பு. (p.) கா காத்துக்கொள்ள, inf. To keep, preserve. மானங்காத்துக்கொள்ள, inf. To preserve one's self-respect, character, dignity. காவாமல், neg. ver. part. [vul. காக் காமல்.] Not keeping. தன்னைக்காக்க--தற்காக்க, inf. To keep one's self, to act so as to avoid blame, scandal, &c. காத்தல், v. noun. Defending, guarding, &c. காப்பு, v. noun. Preservation, defence, guard, protection, cherishing, பாது காப்பு. 2. Watching, caution, vigilance, காவல். 3. Warding off, guarding against, இரட்சிப்பு. 4. s. An amulet, இரட்சாபந்தன ம். 5. A bangle or bracelet,கைக்காப்பு. 6. A bandage tied round the arm, in token of a vow for hearing a sacred book read at a temple, keeping a feast, &c.-serving also as an amulet for the time, and as a monitory to practise abstinence and other required duties, to abstain from ceremonial pollutions, &c.-- also tied on the arms of a newly-married couple for four days, who are to keep apart for this time--also on the candidates for initiation by the Guru, மஞ்சள்நூ ற்காப்பு. 7. The invocation at the commencement of all poems, imploring the protection, aid, blessing of the god worshipped by the author, and often of others, தெய்வவணக்கங்கூறுங்காப்பு. 8. The arm-ring of the Guru, worn on the right arm as an amulet on special occasions, கோயிற்குருவணியுங்காப்பு. 9. A string tied round medical plants with incantations to avert evil effects in their use,மூலிகைக் குக்கட்டுங்காப்பு. 1. (p.) A surrounding wall, a fortification, a fence, a hedge, &c., மதில். 11. A door, கதவு. 12. Sacred ashes worn as an amulet, திருநீறு. 13. Clothes, ஆடை. காப்புக்கட்டில்லாமலெல்லாருமுள்ளேவரலாமா. Is it proper for all to come in without restraint? கன்னிகாதானம்--கன்னியாதானம், s.
