uṭai (p. 59) s. Wealth, செல்வம். 2. Owning, belonging to, being owned, possessed, உடைமை. This word is conjugated as a symbolic verb, in the various inflections of which, or in the abstract form உடைமை, it chiefly obtains; when used as a qualifying prefix in its simple form, except as a participle, it requires the reduplication of the hard letters. பாட்டுடைத்தலைவன், s. The patron of a poem to whom it is addressed. 2. The hero of a poem. உடைப்பெருஞ்செல்வர், s. Those possessed of great wealth. உடைத்து. Third person sing. neut. of a symbolic verb often used appellatively with ஆகுதல். It has, possesses, belongs to, is subject to. இது அவற்குடைத்து. This belongs to him. மகிமையுடைத்தானமோட்சம். Glorious bliss. அச்சாணியன்னாருடைத்து. (The world) possessing persons as important (to society) as the linch pin is to a chariot. (குறள்.) யாக்கைஅழிவுடைத்தாயிருக்கின்றது. The body is perishable. உடைத்தானவன், s. A proprietor, possessor, one subject to.--Note. This form, though a solecism, is allowed. உடைய. The participle of the verb, (1) used as a form of the sixth or possessive case, ஆறாம்வேற்றுமைச்சொல்லுரு பு--as என்னுடையபொருள், my property. 2. Affixed to nouns it governs the accusative case expressed or understood--as மரத்தையுடையவன், the owner of the tree. Sometimes it is annexed to the dative --as பொருளுக்குடையவன், an heir. என்னுடையது. It is mine. மணமுடையபூ, s. A fragrant flower. மரத்தினுடையகொம்பு, s. The branch of a tree. உடையவன்--உடையான், (third pers. masc. sing.) He has, he possesses, (often used appellatively). 2. appel. n. He who has, he who possesses. (a) the owner, the possessor, (b) the Supreme Being, (c) a rich man, (d) a king, a lord, (e) the master of the house. உடையார், s. The rich, the wealthy, the opulent. 2. [prov.] A district officer. 3. A title among some tribes of Hindus. உடையார்முன்னில்லார்போல். Like the poor in the presence of the wealthy. ஆஸ்திக்குடையவன், s. An heir. மண்ணுடையான், s. ēkkṟ (p. 78) inf. v. n. To bow before, or yield to superiors, ambitious of, or coveting their excellencies--as learning, beauty, riches, &c., தாழ்ந்துநிற்க. (p.) உடையார்முன்னில்லார்போலேக்கற்றுங்கற்றார்..... They who have acquired knowledge by doing homage to the learned; as the poor to the rich. (குறள்.) 4)

The metrical connection of the last syllable of any foot with the first of the succeeding, one of the six செய்யுளுறுப்பு, வரு ஞ்சீரின் முதலசை யொன்றியுமொன்றாமலுங்கூடிநிற்பது. --Note. The poetic தளை are of seven kinds embracing four classes. I. ஆசிரி யத்தளை. connexion of ஆசிரியம் verse of two species. 1. நேரொன்றாசிரீயத்தளை, combination of simple syllables in the ஆசிரியம் connexion, or of one simple ஆசிரியம் foot, with another. 2. நிரையொன்றாசிரியத்தளை, combination of compound syllables, or the connexion of one compound ஆசிரியம் foot, with another. II. வெண்டளை, connexion of வெண் பா verse, also of two species. 1. வெண்சீர் வெண்டளை, combination of genuine வெண்சீர் foot, or of one வெண்சீர் foot with another foot, biginning with a simple syllable 2. இயற்சீர்வெண்டளை, combination of simple, or ஆசிரியம் feet, or connexion of an ஆசிரியம் foot ending with a compound syllable with another foot beginning with a simple syllable, or vice versa. III. கலித்தளை, connexion of the கலிப்பா verse, being single, viz.; that of வெண்சீர் foot ending with a syllable with another foot beginning with a compound syllable. IV. வஞ்சித்தளை, connexion of வஞ்சி verse of two species. 1. ஒன்றியவஞ்சித்தளை, combination of compound syllables, or of one வஞ்சி foot with another foot beginning with a compound syllable. 2. ஒன்றாதவஞ்சித்தளை, combination of a compound with a simple syllable, or of one வஞ்சி foot with another beginning with a simple syllable. For syllables and feet and their different species, see அசை and சீர். வளைபட்டகைமாதொடு மக்களெனுந் தளைபட்டழியத் தகுமோதகுமோ. Should I perish by being bound with my bracelet-adorned wife and children. தளைகழற்றிவிட, inf. To unloose or take off fetters. தளைத்தட்ட, inf. To fail or be defective, as a connection in verse, தளைதவற. தளைநார், s. [prov.] A foot brace for a tree-climber. தளைபட--தளைப்பட, inf. To be imprisoned, to be taken captive, சிறைப்பட. 2. To be bound, confined, restrained, கட்டுப்பட. தளைப்பூட்ட--தளைபோட, inf. To fetter, to shackle. தளைப்பொருத்தம், s. Harmonious combination of the தளை, in verse, தளையினிணக்கம். தளையவிழ, inf. To blossom as a flower, பூமலர. 2. To be unbound, to be unrestrained, கட்டவிழ. தளைவைக்க, inf. [prov.] To invest one with the office of உடையார். தளைவார், s. A thong of leather to hamper the feet of an animal when grazing. 2. As தளைநார். 53)

Influence of a planet on one's life, or fortune, according to the time allotted for it in the horoscope, favorable or unfavorable, கிரகபலம். (See தசை.) 3. The two திசை in the சரநூல் are: 1. இயங்குதிசை, the nostril through which the breath, passes for the time being; sometimes called, பூரணதிசை. 2. சூனியதிசை, the nostril through which the breath does not pass. See சூனியம். அவனுக்குத்திசையடிக்கிறது. A good planet is lavishing its favors on him. திசை, 4. The four cardinal points, also applied by some to the four boundaries of the Tamil country. 1. குண கடல் or கீழ்கடல், the sea to the east. 2. குடகுமலை, a mountain to the west. 3. குமரி, Cape Comorin, to the south, 4. வேங்கடம், a mountain to the north or திருப்பதி. திசைகட்ட, inf. To bind the points of compass by mantras. See திருக்குக்கட்ட. திசைக்காற்று, s. Wind which blows from some one point of the compass. திசைச்சொல்--திசைமொழி, s. Provincial words. See சொல். திசைதப்பிவர, inf. To arrive at a place undesignedly, having missed the proper road. 2. [ironically.] To say to one coming after a long interval as a slight reproof, you must have come by mistake. திசைமுகன், s. Brahma whose four faces are turned toward the four points respectively, பிரமன். திசையடிக்க--திசையடுக்க, inf. To be under the influence of a good planet; to be in fortunate circumstances. திசையுடையவர், appel. n. (Hon.) The principal of a district. See உடையார். எல்லாத்திசைக்கும்.
