otukku (p. 82) s. Shelter, screen, defence, refuge, covering. மறைவு. 2. A retreat, recess, place of refuge or shelter, a secluded or retired place, a hiding place, மறைவிடம். உம்முடைய ஒதுக்கிலே வந்தேன். I am come under your protection, I take refuge with you. ஒதுக்கிடம், s. A retreat, a shelter, a place of retirement, &c., புகலிடம். ஒதுக்குக்கடல், s. A harbor, கு டாக்கடல். ஒதுக்குக்குடில், s. Hut or hovel used as a dwelling. ஒதுக்குப்படல், s. A shed to screen cattle from the wind. ஒதுக்குப்பாடு, s. [prov.] Land enclosed by trees which, not being open to the wind, is liable to have the crops on it scorched and destroyed by the sun. See பாடு. ஒதுக்குப்புறம், s. [also impr. ஒதுப் புறம்.] The side of a building, hedge, tree, &c., as affording shelter from wind or rain. ஒதுக்குப்பொதுக்குப்பண்ண, inf. [prov.] To embezzle. 2. To conceal property by omitting to insert it in the inventory of a person sued for debt. ஒதுக்குவயல், s. A sequestered place in a paddy field behind the lodging hut for penning cattle, &c. நிலொதுக்கு, s. A shady place to resort to. 4)

clukai (p. 170) s. Influence of wealth or office; ability to afford protection, செல்வாக்கு. (Besch.) 2. Right, privilege, authority, உரிமை. (c.) உம்முடைய சலுகை என்னசெய்யும். What can your influence avail? சலுகைகாட்ட, inf. To carry one's self proudly on account of office, wealth, &c. 2. To be dictatorial, over-bearing. சலுகைக்காரர், s. Persons of authority, wealth, influence, &c., able to afford protection. 2. Persons arrogant from office, wealth, &c., or from connexion with those who have them. சலுகைக்குவர, inf. According to your pleasure, as you please. சித்தத்தின்படி--சித்தமானபடி. According to one's pleasure, choice, &c. தங்கள் சித்தமெங்கள்பாக்கியம். Your pleasure is the source of our happiness; if you will it, we are made happy. சித்தசமாதானம், s. Certainty or steadfastness of mind in religion. 2. Peace of mind, tranquility, calmness. சித்தசமுசயம், s. Doubt of mind, hesitation, indetermination. (p.) சித்தசாந்தி, s. Stoical tranquility of mind, extinction of volitional feeling, &c., as attained by the ஞானி. (p.) சித்தசலனம், s. Agitation of mind, perturbation, disgust. See சலனம். சித்தஸ்வாதீனம், s. Command of one's will, self-control. சித்தஞ்செய்ய, inf. To settle, decide, give a final judgement, தீர்மானிக்க. 2. To will, desire; to direct, command; to be pleased, ஆக்கியாபிக்க. 3. To make ready, தயார்பண்ண. (Colloq.) சித்தத்தியாகம்--சித்தநிவர்த்தி, s. [prov.] Renunciation, entire subjection or extinction of the will and of secular purposes, resolves, desires, &c.,--as attained by severe abstract devotion in one ripening for liberation from births; absolute quiescence. See தியாகம். சித்தத்திற்கொள்ள, inf. To will, resolve, purpose, choose, prefer. சித்தந்திரும்ப--சித்தம்வர, inf. To be pleased to do, &c. (c.) சித்தப்பிரமை, s. Aberration of mind, infatuation, fascination, stupefaction, bewilderment, மனமயக்கு. 2. Derangement, madness; [ex பிரமை, stupor.] சித்தமாக, inf. To will, to desire; to purpose, resolve. (c.) சித்தமிரங்க, inf. To condescend, to be pleased, to do a favor, &c. சித்தயோகம், s. [in astrol.] A conjunction of the lunar constellations with the days of the week and of the phases of the moon,-- not deemed very favorable; the twenty-first of the twenty-seven yogas, யோகமிருபத்தேழிலொ ன்று. 2. One's word should never fail. நாக்குப்புறப்படச்சுமந்தான். He carried a very heavy load; (lit.) so to cause him to thrust out his tongue. நாக்கைப்பிடுங்கிக்கொண்டுசெத்துப்போவேன். I will pluck out my tongue and die. நாக்கையறுத்துப்பாவாடம்போட்டுக்கொண்டான்..... He cut off his tongue, and laid it and himself before a temple--a very solemn and determined vow; often performed at Pulney festival; also used in love or affection. அடநாக்குவிழுவான். You, whose tongue should fall down, being cut off; used in cursing by women. நான்உம்முடையநாக்குக்குநனைந்தஆளோ. Am I one to be insulted by you? நாக்கிலேசுட, inf. To burn the tongue, for purification, or as a punishment. நாக்குத்தடித்தல், v. noun. The tongue growing thick, and stiff. See தடி, v. நாக்குத்தட்டுதல், v. noun. Stammering, stuttering. 2. Derangement of the bolt of a lock. நாக்குத்தப்ப--நாக்குப்புரள, inf. To fail in a promise, பேச்சுத்தவற. 2. To speak falsely, பொய்சொல்ல. நாக்குத்திருந்துதல், v. noun. See நாக்குத்தப்ப. நாக்குப்புறப்படல்--நாக்குத்தள்ளல், v. noun. The tongue being thrust out. நாக்குப்புற்று, s. A kind of disease on the tongue. See நாப்புற்று. நாக்குவழித்தல், v. noun. Scraping the tongue. நாக்குவாங்கிப்போதல், v. noun. [prov.] Drawing in the tongue, to express amazement, as when asked an exhorbitant price, &c. 2. Being dry and parched in the tongue, through thirst. nāmm (p. 273) s. Name, appellation, especially of a deity, பெயர். W. p. 461. NAMAN. 2. [vul. ராமம்.] The Vaishnuva sectarian mark on the forehead, திருநாமம். (சது.) 3. The white clay, or earth, used for the tridental mark, திருமண். (c.) 4. Reputation, celebrity, கீர்த்தி. 5. That part of the scales which incloses the needle, நிறைகோலின்நடு. 6. Fear, அச்சம்.--There are in use two kinds of marks, as பட்டைநாமம், a large mark worn by some Vaishnuvas ostentatiously; கிள்ளுநாமம், கீறுநாமம், a small mark worn in compliance with custom. நாமகரணம், s. (St.) Naming a child, commonly on the twelfth day for the brahman castes, the thirteenth for the royal caste, &c., being the day after purification. நாமகரணம்பண்ணுதல், v. noun. Naming a child with prescribed ceremonies. நாமக்கட்டி, s. Lumps of white clay, as நாமம், 3. நாமக்காரர், s. [plu.] Vaishnuvas. See நாமதாரி. நாமக்குச்சரி--நாமக்குச்சிலி, s. A woman's cloth of divers colours, ஓர்சேலை; [ex நாமம், the tridental mark.] நாமக்கூசா, s. A goglet made of whte clay. நாமசங்கீர்த்தனம், s. Praising the name (of Vishnu.) நாமஞ்சாத்த--நாமஞ்சூட, inf. To invest with a name, பெயரிட. 2. To wear the Vaishnuva mark. நாமஸ்தோத்திரம், s. Praise of a deity. நாமஸ்மரணை, s. Mental recollection of the name of a deity. நாமதாரணம், s. Bearing a name. 2. Wearing the Vaishnuva mark. நாமதாரணை, s. The first of the nine தாரணை, the worship of God under a name, or through an image. See தாரணை. நாமதாரி, appel. n. A worshipper of Vishnu as wearing the நாமம், நாமதாரி. நாமதேயம், s. A name given, or appellation, பெயர். (Sa Namadheya.) உம்முடையநாமதேயமென்ன. What is your given name? நாமம்தரிக்க--நாமமிட, inf.
