அண்டம்
aṇṭam (p. 9) s. An egg, முட்டை. 2. Testicle, பீசம். Wils. p. 15. ANDA. 3. The solar system, உலகம். 4. An imaginary shell surrounding the earth and its accompanying sphere, அண்டகோளம். 5. The sky, the visible heavens, வானுலகம். 6. Ether, one of the five elements. See பூதம். அண்டகடாகம்--அண்டகோளம், s. The shell supposed to surround the earth and its attendant spheres. அண்டகோசம், s. The egg-shaped universe, முட்டை வடிவான அண்டம். 2. An astronomical treatise, ஓர்நூல். அண்டச்சுவர், s. Wall or shell of the mundane egg, அண்டபித்திகை. அண்டபகிரண்டம்--அண்டரண்ட பகிரண்டம், s. This world and the worlds beyond the mundane sphere; ex பஹி-பஹிஸ், outside. அண்டபிண்டம், s. The universe and the body; the latter is said to contain in embryo, or miniature, every thing found in the former. அண்டத்திலுள்ளதுபிண்டத்தில் உண்டு. What is in the world is also in the human body. அண்டமுகடு, s. The highest part or top of the imaginary shell that surrounds the solar system. அண்டயோனி, s. The sun, சூரி யன்; ex யோனி, the place of birth. அண்டரண்டம், s. The world of the gods; ex அண்டர், gods. அண்டர், s. The celestials or inhabitants of the supernal world, the gods, வானோர். 2. Foes, opponents, enemies, பகைவர். 3. Herdsmen, cowherds, shepherds, இடையர். (p.) அண்டவாணர், s. The gods, celestials. அண்டவாதம்--அண்டவாயு, s. Rupture, scrotal hernia, ஓர்நோய். பிரமாண்டம், s. uṇṭā (p. 59) கிறது, னது, கும், க, v. n. To come into existence, to rise into being, happen, occur, take place, become, to be formed, to form, to concrete, உளதாக. 2. To become, to be made or created, தோன்ற. 3. To be conceived, to have origin, கருவுண்டாக. 4. To grow as vegetables, thrive, flourish, to be produced, be productive, &c., முளைக்க. 5. To become rich, wealthy, opulent, to prosper, செல்வமுண்டாக; [ex உள்.] (c.) உண்டாயபோழ்தினுடைந்துழிக்காகம்போற்றொண் டாயிரவர்தொகுபவே. Thousands crowd about the wealthy as crows about a corpse. uti (p. 60) க்கிறது, த்தது, க்கும், க்க, v. n. To rise--as the sun, moon, &c., உதயமாக. 2. To be born--as a good or great personage, to be born, (spoken auspiciously, sometimes of common persons) பிறக்க. 3. To become incarnate--as a deity, to assume a form, அவதரிக்க. 4. To spring, arise, come into existence, grow out of, (தீ. 55.) to originate, become formed or developed, to have origin--as a book, science, &c., to arise--as primitive elements one out of another; to become evolved--as the world, &c., தோன்ற. 5. [in rhetoric.] Incongruity, impossibility, absurdity--as அலை கடல்களேழுந்தூர்த்தந்தாத்தினூடே--மலையனையமால் யானையோட்டிக்--கலவாரை--நீறுசெய்துவையநெ டுங்குடைக்கீழ்வாழ்வித்தான்--மாறாச்சீர்வையையார் கோன், the Pandian king of Madura of endless fame filled the seven seas with sand, drove his elephant through the sky, reduced his enemies to ashes, and brought the whole world under his sway. The saviour or protector of the world. உலகரட்சணியம்--உலகரட்சை, s. Protection, or salvation of the world. உலகர், s. Worldlings, those engrossed by worldly pursuits. (தீ. 335.) (p.) உலகவழக்கம், s. The customs of the world. உலகவாசை--உலகவாஞ்சை, s. Ardent love of worldly, or sensual enjoyments, உலகவிருப்பம். உலகவாழ்வு, s. Temporal prosperity. உலகளந்தோன், s. Vishnu the measurer of the world, விட்டுணு. (p.) உலகாசாரம், s. Relative duties, the customs, rites or duties to be performed according to the country, caste, rank, relation, &c., of persons respectively. உலகாயிதம், s. A system of materialism, or atheistical epicurianism, அறுசமயங்களிலொன்று. See சமயம். (p.) உலகாள--உலகோம்ப, inf. To govern, protect his country--as one of the duties of a king. உலகாள்வோன், s. A monarch, உலோகாதிபன். உலகியல், s. The customs of the world, உலகநடை. உலகோம்பல், v. noun. Preserving the world--one of the six occupations of kings. See தொழில். உலகோற்பத்தி, s. The origin, or development of worlds. மேலுலகு, s. The upper worlds, which are seven in number, viz.: பூலோ கம், புவர்லோகம், சுவர்லோகம், மகாலோகம், சன லோகம், தபோலோகம், சத்தியலோகம். கீழுலகு, s. The lower worlds or regions; which are also seven, அதலம், விதலம், சுதலம், தராதலம், இரசாதலம், மகாதலம், பாதாளம். மூவுலகம், s. The three worlds, viz.: சொர்க்கம், மத்தியம், பாதாளம். மூவுலகாளி, s. God, (lit.) the sovereign of the three worlds, கடவுள். (p.) மூவுலகுணர்ந்தோன், s. He who comprehends the three worlds, God, க டவுள். 2. Argha, அருகன். (p.) மூவுலகேந்தி, s. உலோகம்
ulōkam (p. 66) s. The world, the earth, any of the fabulous worlds of Hindu mythology, உலகம். 2. Worldliness, earthliness, secularity, உலகத்துக்கடுத்ததன்மை. Wils. p. 723. LOKA. 3. Metal--as iron, &c. Five simple metals are given in the native lexicons--gold, silver, copper, iron, and lead or tin, பஞ்சலோகம். Wils. p. 725. LOHA. To these are sometimes added two mixed metals--as வெண்கலம், a mixture of copper and tin, making bell-metal, &c., and தரா, a compound of copper and zinc, or pinchbeck, &c. உலோகக்கட்டி, s. A mass of metal composed of the five kinds in equal proportions, பஞ்சலோகக்கட்டி. (நிக.) உலோகதாது, s. A kind of arsenic, துத்தபாஷாணம். உலோகபற்பம், s. [as அயவெள் ளை.] Iron reduced to a medicinal powder. உலோகபாலன், s. A king, அர சன். Wils. p. 724. LOKAPALA. உலோகபேதம், s. Difference, or variety of worlds--one of the six kinds of பேதம்; which see. உலோகமணல், s. Iron-sand. உலோகமலை, s. A mountain of iron or metals. உலோகரட்சகன், s. A preserver or protector of the world, உலகத்தைக்காப்ப வன். 2. An appellative of Vishnu--as preserver, விட்டுணு. உலோகராட்டு, s. The Sovereign of the world; i. e. God, கடவுள். உலோகரூடம், s. Custom or fashion of the world, உலகவழக்கம். உலோகாதியந்தம், s. The beginning and end of the world. உலோகாதீதம், s. That which transcends the world, which is supermundane. உலோகார்த்தம், s. Secular advantages, இலௌகீகநயம். 2. Benefit to the world, public good, உலகத்தாருக்குவரு நயம். உலோகோத்தரம், s. Excellence, elegance, that which is liked by every one. உலோகோயம், s. The tract of country lying south of the Himalaya and north of Ramisseram, இமையமலைக்கு மிராமேசுரத்துக்குமிடையேயுள்ளதேசம். பஞ்சலோகம், s. The five simple metals. See உலோகம், 3. சத்தலோகம், s. ஊழி
ūẕi (p. 71) s. The periodical termination of a great age, or the time of the universal deluge and destruction of all things, the end of the world, உகமுடிவு. 2. A very long time, நெடுங்காலம். 3. (p.) Lifetime, உறைகாலம். 4. The earth, பூமி. ஊழிபெயரினுங்கலங்காருரவோர். Though the world should come to an end, the sages will not deviate from their purposes. ஊழியுள்ளளவும். Through all eternity, lit. to the end of an age. உனக்கூழிவர. may you die--an imprecation. நீடுழிவாழ்க. May you live long. ஊழிகாலம், s. A very long time, ages without number, நெடுங்காலம். (சத. 2.) ஊழிக்காய்ச்சல், s. An epidemic fever, or pestilence supposed to be produced by a malignant demon, தொத்து சுரம். ஊழிக்காற்று, s. A destructive wind that prevails at the end of the world, யுகமுடிவிலுண்டாகுங்காற்று. 2. A demon, or bad vapor that causes epidemic diseases, pestilence, &c., விஷக்காற்று. ஊழித்தீ, s. The deluge, or submarine fire, usually described as a mare dwelling in the sea and breathing fire, by which, at the end of every quadruple age, the fire is consumed, வட வைத்தீ. ஊழிநீர், s. The water which prevails at the last deluge, described as rain poured down from the seven species of clouds united, also as the water of the circumfluent sea, உலகமுடிவிலுண்டாகுஞ்ச லப்பிரளயம். ஊழிநோய், s. A pestilence induced by a malignant demon, தொத்து வியாதி. ஊழியூழிகாலம், s. From age to age, eternity. 2)
ஏழு
ēẕu (p. 79) . Seven, septuple, seven fold, ஓரெண்.--Note. Seven is considered a special or sacred number. As a prefix it is often எழு or ஏழ். எழுகடல்--ஏழ்கடல், s. The seven oceans. எழுநிலைக்கோபுரம், s. A tower seven stories high. எழுநிலைமாடம், s. A palace seven stories high, lit. with seven door frames one above another. எழுபிறப்பு--ஏழ்பவம்--ஏழ்பிறப் பு, s. The seven different living beings, viz.: 1. தேவர், supernals. 2. மக்கள், men. 3. விலங்கு, beasts. 4. பறவை, birds. 5. ஊர்வன, reptiles. 6. நீர்வாழ்வன, aquatic creatures. 7. தாவரம், immovable things --as trees, plants. ஏழடிபின்போக, inf. To accompany a poet or learned person seven steps on his departure. ஏழத்தனை. Seven-fold. ஏழரை--எழரையாண்டுச்சனி, s. The period of saturn's evil influence being seven-and-half years. See மங்கு சனி, பொங்குசனி, மரணசனி. ஏழனுருபு, s. The seventh case or local ablative, ஏழாம்வேற்றுமையுருபு. ஏழாங்கால், s. The first post of the marriage-shed when planted on the seventh day before the wedding, a lucky day being chosen. ஏழுகோணம், s. A heptagon, septangular figure. ஏழுதீவு, s. The seven continents. ஏழுபருவம், s. The seven stages of life. See பருவம். ஏழுலகம், s. The seven worlds, including the earth and six supernal worlds. ஏழேழு, s. Seven times seven. 2. Seven of each, எவ்வேழு. ஏழேழுதலைமுறை, s. Seven generations, the duplication of the numeral indicating and equal number of generations both on the side of husband and wife. ஏழ்பரியோன், s. The sun as drawn by seven green horses, ஆதித்தன். ஏழ்புரி, s. The seven sacred cities, also witten ஏழ்புர, and ஏழ்தலம். See புரி. ஈரேழுலகம், s. The fourteen worlds, viz.: seven supernal and seven infernal. See உலகம். ஏழ்சுரம், s. The seven sounds of the diatonic scale. எவ்வேழு, s. Seven of, to, for, or from each, seven by seven. 74)
கற்பம்
kaṟpam (p. 102) s. The period of Brahma's life or one-hundred of his days and nights, பிரமனாயு. (சது.) 2. The periodical destruction of the world at the end of Brahma's day, also of his life, உலகமுடிவு. 3. [in pharmacy.] Medical powders to prolong life, secure immortal youth, சித்தர்கள்மருந்து. 4. Renovating influence on the system from the use of the powders, மூப்புவராமற்செ ய்யுமருந்து. (c.) 5. (p.) A day and night of Brahma, a period of 4,32,, solar, siderial years, or years of mortals measuring the duration of the word, and as many, the intervals of its annihilation, பிரமனோர்நாள். 6. Swerga, the world of the devas, தேவலோகம். 7. A number --ten thousand millions, ஆயிரகோடி. 8. [in sacred science.] Treatises on the incarnation by which the deities respectively are invoked in worship, மந்திரசாஸ்திரம். 9. The period of Brahma's day, or of his age, a kalpa. கற்பஞ்சாதிக்க--கற்பஞ்சாப்பிட, inf. To inure the body to hardship-as ascetics, strengthening it with medicaments and by other means for promoting longevity, கற்பந்தின்ன. கற்பநாள், s. A kalpa of time. கற்பமுடிவு, s. The end of a kalpa. கற்பாந்தம், s. The end of a kalpa, கற்பமுடிவு. (See கற்பம்.) 2. Stability, that which lasts long, உறுதியாயிருப்பது. 20) *

kīẕ (p. 113) adj. Inferior, base, mean, low, vulgar, degraded, disgraceful, dishonorable, கீழ்மையான. 2. Downward, lower; infernal, கீழான. 3. Eastern, eastward, easterly, கிழக்கு. கீழுதடு, s. The lower lip, அதரம். கீழுலகம்--கீழுலகு, s. The nether worlds, seven in number. (See உலகம்.) 2. Hell, நரகம். கீழோர், s. The mean, the vulgar, கீழ் மக்கள். 2. Out-cast, சண்டாளர். கீழோராயினுந்தாழவுரை. Speak submissively even to inferiors. கீழ்க்கண், s. A look from under the eye-lids, an ogling, indirect or sly look, a glance askance, கீழ்ப்பார்வை. 2. The lower part of the eye, the part below the pupil, கண்ணின்கீழ்ப்பக்கம். கீழ்க்குரல், s. A low tone of voice, அடிக் குரல். 2. [in singing.] Bass, மந்தவொலி. கீழ்சாதி--கீழ்ச்சாதி s. A low caste, தாழ்ந்தசாதி. 2. A person of low origin or obscure birth, கீழ்ப்பிறப்பு. கீழ்த்தரம், s. An inferior kind, degree or class; inferiority, தாழ்வானதரம். கீழ்த்தரக்காரன், s. An inferior a low person. கீழ்த்தொடை, s. The lower part of the thigh. கீழ்போகம், s. [prov.] Cultivation of edible roots. கீழ்ப்பயிர், s. Grain or herbage in the shade or overtopped by another plant; under-plants, அடிப்பயிர். கீழ்ப்பாடு, s. The lower side, கீழ்ப்பக் கம். 2. Subordination, inferiority, அடக் கம். (Little used.) கீழ்ப்பாறை, s. A subterranean cell or cavern, கீழறை. (Rott.) 2. An understratum of rock, கீழிருக்கும்பாறை. கீழ்ப்புறம், s. The lower side, the underside, கீழ்ப்பக்கம். 2. The leeward or the leaning side of a vessel, தாழ்ந்தபக்கம். கீழ்மகன், s. A person of low caste, a mean person, இழிந்தோன். 2. The planet saturn, சனி. கீழ்மக்கள், s. Inferiors, low-caste people, the base, the vulgar, the ignorant, இழிந்தோர். கீழ்மாரி--கீழ்வாரி, s. Rain or thunder in the distance, towards the horizon. கீழ்மாரிகொள்ளுகிறது. It thunders at a distance. கீழ்மாரிகொண்டுமுழங்க, inf. To thunder near the horizon. கீழ்வயிறு, s. The lower part of the belly, abdomen, அடிவயிறு. கீழ்க்கதுவாயளபெடை, s. [in prosody.] One of the eight அளபெடைத்தொடை, in which the first letter of every foot in a line, except the penultimate, is prolonged in sound. கீழ்க்கதுவாயியைபு, s. [in prosody.] A rhyme in which the last letter of every foot of a line, except the second, is the same ஒரியைபுத்தொடை. கீழ்க்கதுவாயெதுகை, s. [in prosody.] A rhyme or தொடை, in which the second letter, of every foot of a line, but the penultimate, is the same, ஓரெதுகைத்தொ டை. கீழ்க்கதுவாய், s. [in prosody.] Rhyming or தொடை in every foot but the penultimate; and in இயைபுத்தொடை, in every foot but the second, கதுவாய்த்தொ டையினொன்று. கீழ்க்கதுவாய்முரண், s. [in prosody.] A rhyme or தொடை, in which the first word in every foot of a line, except the penultimate, has different meanings, முரண் டொடை. கீழ்க்கதுவாய்மோனை, s. [in prosody.] A rhyme or தொடை in which the first letter of every foot of a line, but the penultimate, is the same, ஓர்மோனைத்தொடை. கீழ்மை, v. noun. Lowness, meanness, inferiority, baseness, இழிவு. 2. Submissiveness, humbleness, தாழ்மை. கீழண்டை, s. [vul.] East. கீழைத்தெரு, s. The eastern street. கீழைப்புறம், s. The eastern side, part. கீழ்ச்சீமை, s. the eastern country. கீழ்வாடை, s. The north-east wind. கீழ்விதேகம், s. The eastern Videha country--one of the nine divisions of the known continent. See விதேகம். கீழ்காய்நெல்லி, s. A medicinal plant, கீழாநெல்லி, Phillanthus niruri. கீழ்பால், s. The east, கிழக்கு. கீழ்பூமி, s. The lower or nether parts of the earth, பூமியின்கீழ்ப்புறம். 2. The nether worlds, கீழுலகம். கீழ்ப்பக்கம், s. The east side. 2. The underside. கீழ்வாயிலக்கம், s. Fractional parts or denominations. 2. [modern usage.] Denominator of a fraction--opposed to மேல் வாயிலக்கம், the numerator. கீழ்வாய், s. nl (p. 270) --நல்ல, adj. [in combin. before க, ச, த, ப. changed to ற் and commonly before ம to ன்.] Good, excellent, beneficial, eminent, நன்மையான. 2. Acceptable, desirable, agreeable, ஏற்ற. 3. Abundant, copious, மிகுந்த. 4. Much, intence, அதிகமான. 5. Auspicious, propitious, fortunate, நன்னிமித்தமுள்ள.--Note. It is sometimes combined with words of had meaning to show intensity, as நல்லகள் ளன், a consummate thief. நல்லகாயம், s. Severe wound. நல்லகாய், s. Abundant fruit, மிகுகாய். இந்ததடவைநல்லகாய். The crop of fruit this time is abundant. நல்லகாலம், s. A propitious time; also நற்காலம். நல்லகுணம், s. Good temper, a benevolent, amiable disposition; also நற்குணம். நல்லகுணத்தோடேகொடு. nāṭu (p. 273) s. [Gen. நாட்டின்.] Country, kingdom, state, realm, இராச்சியம். 2. Rural or agricultural country, as distinguished from city, மருதநிலம். 3. Populated country or district, as distinguished from forest tracts, தேசம். (c.) 4. (சது.) Place, room, space, area, பரப்பு. 5. Locality, situation, இடம். 6. Earth, land, as distinguished from sea, பூமி. 7. The world, உலகம். 8. Side, region, quarter, பக்கம். --Note. The five principal countries of SouthernIndia, are: 1. தொண்டவளநாடு, Tonda; 2. சோழவளநாடு. Chola; 3. பாண்டிவளநாடு; Pandia; 4. கொங்குவளநாடு. Kongu; 5. மலைநாடு, Malyalam.
