emaṉ (p. 73) s. The deity of Naraca or hell, where his capital is placed, in which he sits in judgment on the dead, and distributes rewards and punishments, sending the good to Swerga, and the wicked to the division of Naraca or Tartarus appropriated to their crimes: he corresponds with the Grecian god Pluto, and the judge of hell Minos. and in Hindu mythology is often identified with death and time; he is the son of Surya, or the sun, and brother of the personified Yamuna or Jumna river, நமன். To send a message or messenger. தூதன், s. (fem. தூதி, தூதிகை, pl.தூதர், தூதர்கள்.) A messenger, a news-carrier, செய்தியறிவிப்போன். 2. An ambassador, nuncio, தானாபதி. 3. Agent, a spy, an emissary, ஒற்றன். 4. One who treats for another in love intrigues; சமாதானம் பேசுவோன். W. p. 418. DUTA. 5. The messenger who carries the news of a poisonous bite to the magician; by whose postures, gestures, words, &c., the fate of the bitten person is ascertained. 6. (Chirst, usage, with தேவ.) An angel. எமதூதன், s. A messenger of Yaman, the god of death, to carry away souls to his court. See எமன், இயமன். தூதனிலட்சணம், s. Posture, gestures. &c., of the messenger, with news of a snake bite. தூதன்சொல்லிலட்சணம், s. Words of the above messenger, of which the letters are counted to ascertain the patient's fate. தூதாள், s. (pl. தூதாட்கள்.) A messenger, a spy, as தூதன். தூதிற்பிரிவு, v. noun. (in love poetry.) Separation of husband from his wife to go on a message for the king. தூதுசொல்ல, inf.
