kmpṉ (p. 96) s. A poet, the author of the Ramayana, ஓர்புலவன். கம்பன்வீட்டுக்கட்டுத்தறியுங்கவிபாடும். Even the stake in the cowstall of Kampen the poet knows how to compose verses; i. e. the example of conspicuous men has a tendency to influence the character of their dependents. 8)

One of the eighteen secondary puranas, பதினெ ட்டு உபபுராணத்தொன்று. 6. One of the four poisonous fangs of a cobra snake, பாம்பின்நச்சுப்பல்லிலொன்று. காளிதோட்டத்துக் கற்பகம்போல். Like the Kalpa tree in the garden of Kali; i.e. as possessed by the illiberal Kali. காளிவந்து கலந்தனள். Kali has come out and joined (Santanu.) காளிதாசன், s. The name of an ancient celebrated Sanscrit poet, ஓர்புலவன். காளிபோலேயிருக்க, inf. To be very strong, fierce and black. காளியாட்டமாட, inf. To fight or quarrel as காளி with Siva. 21)

kuṭam (p. 116) s. A large kind of earthen pot, கும்பம். 2. A sign of the zodiac; Aquarius, கும்பவிராசி. Wils. p. 226. KUT'A. 3. Sugar, jaggery, molasses, சருக்கரை. 4. A globular or round part of a pillar, a cylindrical body, திரட்சி. Wils. p. 29. GUD'A. எண்ணெய்க்குடமும்வெறுங்குடமும்முட்டினாலெ தற்குச்சேதம். If a pot of oil come in collision with an empty pot, which, by breaking, is the greater loss; i.e. in collision, who is the sufferer, the man of character or the worthless person? ஒருகுடம்பாலுக்கொருதுளிஉறைமோர். One drop of butter-milk for coagulating a whole pot of milk; i. e. a good character, obligations of kindness, &c., are forfeited by a single bad action. புறக்குடத்துத் தண்ணீர்போல. Like water on the outside of a pot; i. e. forgotten as soon as learnt; advised or taught to no purpose. பொன்னின்குடத்துக்குப்பொட்டிடவேண்டுமோ.... Does it require that a golden pot be decorated; i. e. things of substantial worth need no embellishment. மாமியார்உடைத்தால்மண்குடம் மருமகளுடைத்தாற் பொன்குடம். If broken by the mother-inlaw, it is a mere earthen pot; but if by the daughter-in-law, it is a golden vessel; i. e. slight faults in inferiors are greatly magnified. குடங்கை, s. The palm of the hand. வெறுங்குடம், s. An empty pot. 2. (fig.) One who knows nothing. குறைகுடம், s. A water-pot not quite full. நிறைகுடம், s. A full water-pot; very good parts; a capable head. குடமூக்கு, s. The town of Combaconum, See கும்பகோணம். குடமூத, inf. To make a sound by blowing into pots, with dancing or jumping--as low-caste women at marriages and in some places at a temple, குடத் தினுள்ளூதியொலிபிறப்பிக்க. குடம்விட்டுக்கட்ட, inf. [prop.] To decorate the marriage pole with stiffened cloth, so as to resemble pots placed one on another. குடமுழா, s. A kind of drum made of a pot, முழவு. குடமல்லிகை, s. A kind of jasmine, ஓர் மல்லிகை, Jasminum sambac, L. Arabian jasmine. See மல்லிகை. குடமுருட்டி, s. A branch of the Kavery, ஓர் ஆறு. குடச்சிப்பி, s. A round shell or conch. குடவுழுந்தர், s. The name of a celebrated poet who, in his youth, was as long in getting a lesson as it required to fill a pot with lentils, உழுந்து, one at a time, ஓர்புலவன், குடவெழுத்தாணி, s. An iron-style with knobs or balls at the top, one above another, tapering to a point. குடம்வைத்தல், v. noun. Playing with the fists one on another, and knocking off the upper in succession, ஓர்விளையாட்டு. குடமண், s. White sand, வெண் மணல். (M. Dic.) 26)

taṇṭi (p. 222) s. A celebrated poet, one of the nine gems or celebrated authors in the court of king Bojas, and authors of a work on rhetoric, which has been translated from Sanscrit into Tamil and called தண்டியலங்காரம், ஓர்புலவன். 2. One of the sixty-three devotees of Siva; also called தண்டோன். 3. Another of the sixty-three devotees of Siva, called தண்டியடிகள், said to have been born blind, and afterward, to have received sight, ஓர்சிவனடியான். தண்டியலங்காரம், s. A treatise on rhetoric, comprising thirty-five figures, ஓர்நூல். 67)

nmpi (p. 270) s. A superior person, a young man, a gentleman, a poetic term of respect, ஆணிற்சிறந்தோன். 2. [also நம்பியான்.] The son of a brahman by a mother of the military race, married in the இராக்கதம் mode, and a worshipper of Vishnu, அரசர்மா தைப் பார்ப்பான் இராக்கதமணஞ்செய்யபிறந்து விட்டு ணுவையருச்சிப்போன். 3. A title of some Vaishnuva gurus. (c.) நம்பியாண்டார்நம்பி, s. A brahman poet in the Carnatic. He wrote the கலித்துறையந்தாதி, treating of the legends of அறுபத்துமூவர். He was an enthusiastic admirer of சம்பந்தர், and wrote two poems in his praise, ஓர்புலவன். 43)

pṭikkācu (p. 291) s. A poet who flourished at the court of இரகுநாதசேதுபதி, of Ramnad from A. D. 1686 to 1723. His principal work is தொண்டைமண்டலசதகம், in praise of the Tonda country. He was a sever satirist, ஓர்புலவன். 69) *
