See நிமிளை. (M. Dic.) அஞ்சனக்காரன், s. A soothsayer, conjurer, sorcerer. அஞ்சனக்கோல், s. A paint brush or pencil to blacken the eyelids. அஞ்சனத்திரயம், s. Three species of magical ointments, viz., பூதாஞ்சனம், that which assists in discovering whether a person is possessed or not; சோராஞ் சனம், that which assists in discovering stolen property; and பாதாளாஞ்சனம், that which assists in discovering treasure buried under ground. அஞ்சனபாஷாணம், s. One of the thirty-two kinds of native arsenic. அஞ்சனமெழுத, inf. To paint the eyes. அஞ்சனவண்ணன், s. Vishnu, the blue colored, திருமால். அஞ்சனாவதி, s. kaṉṉikai (p. 102) s. A virgin undefloured, a girl unmarried, கன்னிமையழிவில்லாள். 2. The five கன்னிகை, viz.: அகலிகை, the wife of கௌதமன்; துரோபதை, the wife of the பஞ்ச பாண்்டவர் or five brothers, sons of the king பாண்டு; சீதை, the wife of இராமன்; தாரை the wife of வாலி; and மண்டோதரி, the wife of இரா வணன். 3. To preserve one's self-respect, character, dignity. காவாமல், neg. ver. part. [vul. காக் காமல்.] Not keeping. தன்னைக்காக்க--தற்காக்க, inf. To keep one's self, to act so as to avoid blame, scandal, &c. காத்தல், v. noun. Defending, guarding, &c. காப்பு, v. noun. Preservation, defence, guard, protection, cherishing, பாது காப்பு. 2. Watching, caution, vigilance, காவல். 3. Warding off, guarding against, இரட்சிப்பு. 4. s. An amulet, இரட்சாபந்தன ம். 5. A bangle or bracelet,கைக்காப்பு. 6. A bandage tied round the arm, in token of a vow for hearing a sacred book read at a temple, keeping a feast, &c.-serving also as an amulet for the time, and as a monitory to practise abstinence and other required duties, to abstain from ceremonial pollutions, &c.-- also tied on the arms of a newly-married couple for four days, who are to keep apart for this time--also on the candidates for initiation by the Guru, மஞ்சள்நூ ற்காப்பு. 7. The invocation at the commencement of all poems, imploring the protection, aid, blessing of the god worshipped by the author, and often of others, தெய்வவணக்கங்கூறுங்காப்பு. 8. The arm-ring of the Guru, worn on the right arm as an amulet on special occasions, கோயிற்குருவணியுங்காப்பு. 9. The தான்றிமரம்-A tree yielding a nut much used in medicines, it is said in நைடதம் that Kali, the god of the iron age, once concealed himself in the fruit of this tree, Terminalia bellerica. To bind or cause absorption, or extinction of the seminal principle in the system, as ascetics; or to promote longevity. தாதுகலிக்க, inf. To be emitted as semen. தாதுநஷ்டம், s. Nocturnal pollution in sleep, by disease, &c. See ஸ்கலிதம். தாதுபார்க்க, inf. To feel the pulse. தாதுபுஷ்டி--தாதுவிருத்தி, s. A healthy state of the semen. (c.) தாதுமாதளை, s. A flowering pomegranate without fruit, பூமாதளை. தாதுமூலசீவன், s. [in divination.] A three fold division of nature, தாது denoting the mineral, மூலம், the vegetable and சீவன், the animal kingdoms, one of which is sent by an applicant to the diviner. தாதுரோகம், s. pūtam (p. 330) s. Any of the five elements. See பஞ்சபூதம். 2. A Bhuta; a goblin, ghost or malignant spirit, employed by magicians and supposed to haunt places where the dead are burnt or buried. Companies of them attend Siva, Ganesa, &c., They are described as dwarfish, with huge pot-bellies, and very small legs, &c., கிருத்திமம். 3. A living being, life, animal power, சீவன். W. p. 623. Any thing great, monstrous, superhuman, &c. பூதகணம்--பூதசேனை, s. companies of Bhutas. பூதகரப்பன்பட்டை, s. The medicinal bark of the பீநாறி tree. பூதகலம்--பூதக்கலம், s. [prov. பூதாக்க லம்.] The giving of food by the bride to the bridegroom for the first time. See பரிமாறு. பூதகாலம், s. Past time, past tense, இறந்தகாலம். பூதகலிக்கம், s. A kind of collyrium used by magicians. See கலிக்கம். பூதக்கண்ணாடி, s. A magnifier, a microscope. பூதக்கால், s. The large leg, elephantiasis, as யானைக்கால். (Old Dic.) பூதசாரம், s. Essence of the elements, formed of or belonging to the elements, elemental, பஞ்சபூதசத்து. 2. What is composed of or belonging to the primitive or spiritual class or elements. பூதசாரசரீரம், s.
