aṭu (p. 8) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. [used with the accusative.] To approach, approximate, come in contact with, கிட்ட. 2. To be near, close, adjacent, proximate, to propinquate, சேர. 3. To adhere, unite with, apply for protection, சார. 4. v. n. (with dative.) To belong, pertain, relate to, be fit for, suitable to, deserving of, conformable to, becoming, உரித்தாக. 5. To happen, occur, சம்பவிக்க. எனக்கடுத்தவர்கள், The people associated with or belonging to me, out own people, kindred. அவள் இவனுக்கடுத்தபெண். She is a suitable woman for him. ஒரு சொல்லிரண்டுமூன்று நான்கெல்லை முறைய டுக்கும். The same word will be repeated twice, thrice, or four times. (Nun.) அடாதது, appel. n. That which is improper, unfit. அவனுன் வீட்டிலே வால் அடாது. It is bad for you to have him come to your house. அடாநிந்தை, s. Injustice, unfounded reproach. அடுகிடை--அடுகிடைபடுகிடை, v. noun. [prov.] Lying down at a person's house determined not to leave till the thing asked is obtained, எழும்பாக்கிடை. அடுக்க, inf. [used adv.] Near, near at hand. அடுத்தடுத்துச்சொல்ல, inf. To reiterate. அடுத்ததண்டனை, s. Deserved punishment. அடுத்ததின்றன்மையான்மாவாகும். The associations of the soul determine its character. (In வீராகமம்.) அடுத்தவீடு, s. The next house. அடுத்தார், s. Adherents, relations, சேர்ந்தார். அடுத்தாற்போலே. Very high, next to, near. அடுத்திருந்து கழுத்தறுக்க, inf. To kill one by treachery. அடுத்துவர, inf. kẕuttu (p. 98) s. The neck of a person, brute, thing, &c., கண்டம். கழுத்தடி, s. The lower part of the nape of the neck, தோண்மேல். கழுத்தறுக்க, inf. To cut the throat, to server the wind-pipe. முன்விட்டுப்பின்னின்றுகழுத்தறுக்கலாமோ...... Would you bid one take precedence and then cut his throat? ஒருவன்கழுத்திலேகட்டிவிட. To devolve unpleasant consequences on another. 2. To attribute a crime or blame to a person. 3. To impose on another unsaleable goods, or a woman ineligible for marriage. கழுத்திடுகயிறு, s. Halter for a beast. கழுத்திருத்த, inf. To have the neck pressed down with a heavy load. (c.) கழுத்திலேகயிறுபோட, inf. To threaten self-immolation for the purpose of recovering debts, &c. 2. To be very treacherous, insidious, perfidious. (c.). கழுத்துக்குட்டை, s. A neckcloth, a cravat. (c.) கழுத்துக்கொடுக்க, inf. To lay down the neck for another on the block, to subject one's self to inconvenience or danger. 2. To expose one's life by a commission of crime. 3. To submit to the yoke as bullocks. கழுத்துச்சந்து, s. The joint of the neck. கழுத்துச்சுளுக்கு, s. Straining of the ligaments of the neck by violent turning of the head. கழுத்துத்திருக, inf. To wring off the head of a fowl, &c. 2. To throttle, twist the head. கழுத்துநெடியபானை, s. A longnecked pot. கழுத்துப்பட்டிகை, s. A collar, a cape. கழுத்துப்பட்டை, s. The collar of a cloak. கழுத்துப்பருத்திருக்க, inf. To have a thick neck. கழுத்துப்பொருத்தம், s. One of the ten பொருத்தம் for marriage, மணப்பொருத்தம் பத்திலோன்று. (c.) கழுத்துமுறிக்க--கழுத்தைமுறிக்க, inf. To break the neck--spoken of the power, &c., of demons. வேண்டாமென்றுகழுத்தைமுறிக்கிறான். He absolutely refuses, it is very repugnant to his feelings, &c. கழுத்துவெட்டி, s. A cut-throat, a betrayer, an assassin. (c.) கழுத்தூட்டி, s. The throat. (p.) கழுத்தேறுதண்டம், s. Aggravated or very heavy punishment. கழுத்தைநெரிக்க, inf. To throttle one. கட்டுக்கழுத்தி, s. A married woman. 81)

ciri (p. 185) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. n. To laugh, smile, simper, titter, நகைக்க. 2. v. a. To ridicule, பரிகாசம்பண்ண. சிரித்துப் பேசுகிறவர்களை நம்பப்படாது. You cannot confide in those who speak laughingly. சிரித்துக்கழுத்தறுக்குதல். Smiling on one and cutting his throat at the same time. i. e., injuring one under the disguise of friendship. தன்னைச்சிரிப்பாரைத் தானறியான். He knows not who laughs at him; he laughs at others not aware how much he is despised. (p.) சிரித்தமுகம், s. A smiling-face, a cheerful countenance. சிரித்துக்கொள்ள, inf. To express joy by smiling. 2. To indicate approval, or consent by a smile. 3. To interchange smiles--as lovers. சிரித்துவிளையாட, inf. To jest and dally --as lovers. சிரித்துப்பேச, inf. To speak, while smiling or laughing. நாலுபேருஞ்சிரிக்கநடக்க, inf. To act so as to be ridiculed. களகளென்றுசிரிக்க, inf. To chuckle. See களகளெனல். சிரிப்பு, v. noun. Laughing, laughter, a smile, நகைப்பு. 2. Ridicule, பழிப்பு. 3. Jest, fun, பகிடி. இதுநல்லசிரிப்பு. A laughable thing. சிரிப்புக்காட்ட, s. To excite laughter by anticks, &c. சிரிப்புக்கிடம், s. Ridiculousness, shamefulness, exposedness to ridicule. சிரிப்புங்கனைப்புமாயிருக்க, inf. To laugh too much and be too jolly. கள்ளச்சிரிப்பு, s. A pretended smile. கள்ளச்சிரிப்புந் திருட்டழுகையும். Pretended smiles and false crying. சீரழிந்தசிரிப்பு, s. Unbecoming laughter, laughing too much before superiors. 65)

To come together, assemble, collect, muster, ஒருமிக்கச்சேர. 5. To belong to, be dependent on, or attached to, be connected with, அடுக்க. 6. To fit, suit, be adapted to--as the mortise to the tenon, &c., இணங்க. 7. To be in close friendship or union, to have a liking for a person on account of congeniality of temper or from habit, &c., பொருந்த. 8. To mach, equal, correspond with, ஒக்க. 9. A small halo denotes rain to be distant, a large one, indicates it to be near. சேராச்சேர்த்தி, s. [prov.] A disproportioned match, not a pair; inequality, as of a married couple, of ploughing bullocks. palankeen bearers, &c., இசைவின்மை. 2. Bad company, associating with improper persons beneath one's rank, &c., தகா தகூட்டுறவு. 3. Confusion, disorder, தாறு மாறு. சேருந்துறை, s. The destined port, the place to which one is bound. 2. (fig.) A person of rank, or dignity, worthy to be associated with in marriage, &c., one able to assist, &c. சேர்ந்தகைமை--சேர்ந்தலை, s. [prov.] Promiscuously, altogether, in confusion, topsy turvy, higgledy piggledy, கூட்டாக்குழப் பமாய். சேரும்பாடுமாய்விழ, inf. To fall promiscuously on each other, as people in a quarrel, or as trees in a storm, &c. சேர்கால், s. [prov.] The hampered feet of beasts, தளைகால். சேர்காலிட, inf. To hamper. சேர்ந்த, (past rel. part.) Joined, united, belonging to, &c. அந்தநிலமவனைச்சேர்ந்தது. That land is his. சேர்ந்தமுதல், s. Stock. See முதல். சேர்ந்தவன், appel. n. An applicant for aid. 2. A person under one's protection, a dependant. 3. A relative. 4. A partisan, an ally, associate. இவன்நம்மைச்சேர்ந்தவன். He is on our side. சேர்ந்தார், s. Friends, partisans, connexions. 2.
