akpporuḷ (p. 2) s. [ex. அகம், mind, et பொருள்.] Rules for amatory poems, அ கப்பொருள்விதி. 2. Rules for reasoning, தர்க் கவிதி. 3. mental enjoyments in love, இன் பம். 4. A book treating of mental delectation, ஓரிலக்கணம். அகப்பொருள் is developed in these three constituents, viz., 1. முதற்பொருள், primary arrangements of nature with regard to (a) நிலம், soil, in five varieties, and (b) பொழுது, time in two grand divisions. 2. கருப்பொருள், natural peculiarities incidental to each of the divisions of the soil under 14 heads viz., (a) ஆரணங்கு, peculiar gods belonging to a place, tutelary deities or penates, (b) உயர்ந் தோர், chiefs or lords of the district, (c) இழிந்தோர், subjects or inhabitants under them, (d) புள், birds, (e) விலங்கு, beasts, (f) ஊர், city or town, (g) நீர், water, (h) பூ, flowers, (i) மரம். trees, (j) உணா, food, (k) பறை, drum, (l) யாழ், musical instruments, (m) பண், tune, and (n) தொழில், occupation, trade or mode of earning a livelihood. 3. உரிப்பொருள், essential characteristics of lovers. The subject matter of this treatise, to which the two former are auxiliary or conducive, is developed in five dispositions or actions, either mental or coporal, viz., (a) புணர்தல், union or the state in which husbands and wives are together in their family, (b) பிரிதல், separation when for lawful purposes, (c) இருத்தல், the state in which they continue solitary, especially the bride, (d) ஊடல், love quarrels, (e) இ ரங்கல், weeping and lamentation in any period of their life for any cause. These five characteristics are respectively ascribed to the above five species of soil, as appropriately adapted to their nature, as புணர்தல் to குறிஞ்சி, பிரிதல் to பாலை, இருத்தல் to முல்லை, ஊடல் to மருதம், and இரங்கல் to நெய்தல். இந் த ஐந்து ஒழுக்கத்தையுங்குறித்துப் பாடும்பொழுது அத தற்குக்குறித்த திணையிலுள்ள கருப்பொருள்களையெடுத் துப் பாடுதன்முறையாம். [vul. அரதேசி.] A religious mendicant in his own country-used in opposition to பரதேசி. அகநிலை, s. The self-existent God, கடவுள். 2. Inside, உள்நிலை. அகவிதழ், s. Inner petals as found in the lotus and some other flowers; ex இதழ். (p.) 25)

īṭu (p. 58) s. Equivalent, substitution, vicarious retribution, fruit, result, பிரதி. 2. Comparison, equal, match, ஒப்பு. 3. Reward, recompense, compensation, remuneration, satisfaction, கைம்மாறு. 4. Pawn, pledge, security, mortgage of land, அடகு. 5. (p.) Greatness, dignity, moral excellence, பெருமை. 6. Power, strength, robustness, வலி. 7. Ability, means, தகுதி. 8. Tendency, liability, exposure, obnoxiousness, being subject to, falling a prey, நேரா குகை. (சத. 63.) 9. Thickening, becoming slimy, குழைவு. அம்மாத்திரத்துக்கெனக்கீடில்லை. I have not the means to do so much. வினைக்கீடாகவனுபவமுண்டாம். Enjoyments and sufferings will accord with the deeds done within the periods of former births. அதற்கீடாகவிதுகொடுக்கிறேன். I give this for or instead of that. அவளுக்கவனீடல்ல. He is not a suitable match for her. ஈடழிய, inf. To suffer the loss of power, dignity, wealth, &c., to become poor, பெருமைகுன்ற. ஈடழிவு, v. noun. Loss of power, property, dignity, &c., சீர்கேடு. ஈடன், s. A strong, competent, wealthy man, பெருமையுடையோன். ஈடன்பாடஞ்சான். A wealthy man will not fear losses. ஈடாட, inf. To compete with another, நேர்நிற்க. 2. [prov.] To be loose--as a tooth, a nail, the spokes of a wheel, to joggle, உழல. ஈடாட்டம், v. noun. Competing or matching with another. 2. Pecuniary ability, the free use of money--as by a rich merchant, கொடுக்கல்வாங்கல். 3. Being loose--as a nail, &c., உழலுகை. ஈடுகட்ட--ஈடுபண்ண, inf. To give security, பிணைகொடுக்க. 2. To make amends, restitution, reprisals, &c., to identify, ஈடுசெய்ய. ஈடுகொடுக்க--ஈடுசெலுத்த, inf. To reward, give an equivalent, to content, பதிலளிக்க. 2. To bear, tolerate, endure, yield, &c., ஈடுகட்ட. அவனுக்கீடுகொடுக்கமுடியாது. It is impossible to give him satisfaction. வீடுபலக்கக்கட்டினாற்புயலுக்குமீடுகொடுக்கும். If the house be strongly built, it will endure the storm. அவனுக்கிவனீடுகொடுக்கமாட்டான். This person cannot compete with him. ஈடுபாடு, s. Loss and gain, நய நஷ்டம். 2. Substitution, ஒப்பு. ஈடேற, inf. To be emancipated from sin, births, &c., to obtain final happiness, உய்ய. 2. To be saved from ruin and be rendered secure, to rise from indigence to prosperity, to be completely rescued from distress, difficulty, danger, disease, &c., வாழ்வடைய. கன்னிகையீடேறிவிட்டாள். The girl has attained a marriage settlement. அந்தக்குடியீடேறிவிட்டது. That family is rescued from indigence, saved from ruin. &c. ஈடேற்ற, inf. To deliver, rescue, இரட்சிக்க. 2. To raise one from distress, indigence, &c. to the attainment of the desired good, to promote, to establish in good circumstances. வாழ்வடை யச்செய்ய. 3. To redeem, emancipate from births, &c., மீட்க. ஈடேற்றப்பட, inf. To be saved, delivered, rescued from ruin indigence, distress, &c., to be rendered secure against danger, &c., இரட்சிக்கப்பட. ஈடேற்றம், s. Final and eternal happiness, the liberation of the soul from the body and its exemption from further transmigrations, and translation to a permanent state of happiness, final emancipation, பேரின்பவாழ்வு. 2. Deliverance from a state of suffering, indigence, &c., உய்வு. 3. The marriage of a destitute girl under favorable auspices, கன்னிகையீடேற்றம். ஈட்டுக்கீடு, s. Like for like, retaliation, requital. கடையீடு, s. Ground the lowest in value and assessment. தலையீடு, s. A very fruitful soil, known to be such by its aspect. 6)

aitu (p. 80) . Being separated by spaces, standing close but not in contact, செறிவின் மை. 2. Fineness, minuteness, subtleness, permeableness, நுண்மை. (தீ. 436.) ஐததுநெல்அடர்ந்ததுசுற்றம். Let the rice-crop be thin, but relations thick, numerous. [prov.] வலிச்சலையைதாங்கிப்போட்டுத்தை. Put the laths rather wide apart. ஐதபயிர், s. A thin crop of growing corn. ஐதாகவிதைத்தல், v. noun. Poetry is of four kinds, viz.: 1. ஆசுகவி, an extemporaneous poem made by request, the theme, the kind of verse and some of the rhetorical figures to be wrought into it being given. 2. மதுரகவி, a poem in which sublime and gratifying ideas are couched in rich language, with varied appropriate rhymes and rhetorical figures, and all in a sweet flowing style. 3. சித்திரகவி, a poem variously of artfully composed. (See மிறைக் கவி.) 4. வித்தாரகவி, an extended poem, such as the great epics Ramayana and Bharata.--Note. Each of these four is also applied to the poet as well as to the poem. கவிகட்ட--கவிபாட inf. To make verses. கவிகற்றோர், s. Panegyrists attending a prince in his movements, மங்க லப்பாடகர். கவிசொல்ல, inf. To make poetry. கவிச்சக்கரவர்த்தி, s. A distinguished poet, புலவன். கவிஞர், s. Poets, bards, புலவர். 2. Scientific persons, கலைவல்்லோர். (p.) கவிதை, s. A poem, poetry, verse, a verse of poetry, stanza, பா. (p.) கவித்துவம், s. Poetic style or composition, புலமைத்தன்மை. கவிநாயகன், s. The person to whom a poem is dedicated, who is also the hero, கவிக்கிறைவன். கவிமாலை, s. Verses joined together. கவிரத்தினம், s. A treatise on versification. கவிராயன், s. (Hon.) A poet, புல வன். கவிவல்லோர்--கவிவாணர் s. Learned poets, bards, புலவர். கவிவீரராகவமுதலியார், s. kvi (p. 98) கிறது, ந்தது, யும், ய, v. n. To cover, over-spread, bent in or over, overshadow--as branches of trees, the heavens, clouds, &c.; to canopy, over-spread, bend over, வளைய. 2. To be eager, intent, earnest; to have the mind bent upon a thing, விரும்ப. (p.) மேகங்கள்மலைச்சிகரத்தைக்கவிந்துகொண்டன. The clouds have covered the mountain top. அவர்மனங்கவிந்திருக்கின்றது. He is very eager after it. வான்கவிந்தவையகமெல்லாம்பெறினும். Though the whole world canopied by the heavens be thy reward. கவிதை, v. noun. Bending, being concave, கலிவு. 2. s. An umbrella, குடை. 3.
