kāṭu (p. 103) s. An uncultivated tract of land covered with forest-trees, thick, impenetrable brush wood, creeping plants and coarse, rank, reedy vegetation, a waste, a thicket, வனம். 2. Deserts, forest tracts, ஆரணியம். 3. A desert place for burning the dead, சுடுகாடு. 4. fig. Excessiveness much, closeness, &c., மிகுதி. 5. The time has arrived when the desert says, come, and the house says, go. இந்தவூருக்குக்காடுகொஞ்சம். This village has but little arable land. காடாய்க்கிடக்க, inf. To be covered with jungle or wood. நிலங்காடாய்க்கிடக்கிறது. The ground is uncultivated. கடாய்ப்போக, inf. To become waste, to grow woody. காடாரம்பட்டு, s. A village situated in a wild tract of land near Vedarniam. காடாற்ற, inf. To perform the ceremony of quenching the fire where a corpse has been burnt, gathering the remains and taking them in a new pot to some water representing the Ganges, பாற்றெளிச்சடங்குசெய்ய. காடுகாட்ட, inf. To deceive, disappoint, lit. to show the place of burning the dead. காடுபடுதிரவியம், s. The productions of the desert, காட்டிலுண்டாகுந்திரவி யம். See under திரவியம். காடுபலியூட்ட, inf. To sacrifice to the sylvan nymphs before hunting, காட் டில்வாழுந்தேவர்களுக்குப்பலியிட. காடுவசாதி, s. [prov. prop. காடுவாழ் சாதி.] Savage tribe. காடுவசாதியாய்த்திரிய, inf. To be slovenly, sluttish, &c., to be careless, negligent of one's dress, &c., 2. To be vagrant, idle, &c., as a child for whom no one cares. காடுவாரி, s. [prov.] A rake, ஓர் கருவி. 2. One who scrapes up all he can, சேர்ப்பவன். 3. One who resorts to any kind of labor for support. காடுவாழ்த்து, s. A section of a war poem, extolling the jungle of the sylvan goddess, &c., where the battle occurred, வனதேவதையைவாழ்த்தும்பிரபந்தம். காடுவெட்டி, s. tkrai (p. 219) s. A plant, the fetid leaves of which form a drug, oval leafed Cassia, ஓர்செடி, Cassia tora. L. This includes four varieties--as கருந்தகரை, காட்டுத்தகரை, பன்றித்தகரை, வெண்டகரை, which see. தகரம்விரை--தகரைவிரை, s. The medicinal seed of the தகரை. 14)

tiṉai (p. 241) s. Millet, a kind of grain, ஓர்தானி யம், Panicum italicum, L. 2. (fig.) Smallness, a trifle, சிறுமை.--There are different kinds of millet, வெள்ளைத்தினை, white; அச்சித் தினை, another small kind (probably from Acheen); காட்டுத்தினை, wild; செந்தினை, red; கருந்தினை, dark; அணில்வாற்றினை, a kind of white millet with ears supposed to resemble the tall of the squirrel. தினைவிதைத்தவர்தினையறுப்பார்வினைவிதைத்தவர்வினை யறுப்பார். They that sow millet shall reap millet; they that do evil, will get evil. தினைக்கஞ்சி, s. Millet gruel, for sick persons. தினைக்குருவி, s. A small kind of bird, ஓர்சிறுகுருவி. தினைச்சாமை, s. [prov.] The தினை grain, as a species of சாமை. தினைத்தாள், s. Millet stalks or straw. தினைப்புனம்--தினைப்புலம், s. A millet field. தினைமா, s. Millet-flour. தினையரிசி, s. Husked millet. தினையளவு, s. As much as a grains of millet; i. e. a small matter. தினையளவும்உதவான். He will not help in the least. 68)

tutti (p. 247) s. An eatable, any thing proper to be eaten, உண்டற்குரியன; [ex து, v.] 2. The ornamented spots on the neck of the cobra, பாம்பின்படப்பொறி. 3. Yellow, or tawny spreading spots on the skin. (See தேமல்.) 4. A plant, a species of mallow, ஓர்செடி, Indian marshmallow, Sida Mauritiana. (Ains. v. 1, p. 25.)--Note.
