oru (p. 83) adj. [changed from ஒன்று, which is the root.] Before vowels and sometimes before consonants, the உ often is dropped and the ஒ lengthened--as ஓரிலை, a leaf. In some connexions and with appropriate emphasis, it means sameness, singularity, peculiarity, specialness, celebrity, &c. ஒருகூடுமுடைந்தவனொன்பதுகூடுமுடைவான். . . . . He who has fabricated one bird's cage may fabricate nine. [prov.] ஒருகண்டசீராக, adv. In one uninterrupted course, monotonously, invariably, constantly. ஒருகண்டசீராகமழைபெய்கிறது. A stanza curiously constructed, of a few letters in the periphery and radii of a circle, to be repeated over and over in the reading, ஓர்மிறைக்கவி.--It embraces three varieties; viz.: நான்காரைச்சக்கரம்.ஆறா ரைச்சக்கரம் and எட்டாரைச்சக்கரம். (தண்டி.) அவனுக்கிதோடேசக்கரமறுதி. His course of life will end with this. சக்கரத்தில் கிடந்தாடுகிறான். He is captivated, enamored--said of a lover. 2. His mind is engrossed, as by the love of money, &c. சக்கரயூகம், s. The circular array of an army--as சகடயூகம். சக்கரவாவி, s. A circular tank famed in mythology. சக்கராகாரம், s. A circular figure, roundness, விருத்தவடிவு. வில்லைச்சக்கராகாரமாய் வளையவாங்கினான். He bent his bow in a circle. (இராமா.) சக்கரபாணி, s. Vishnu, விட்டுணு. 2. Durga, துர்க்கை; [ex பாணி, hand.] சக்கராயுதத்தி--சக்கராயுதி, s. Durga-the discus-armed, துர்க்கை. (p.) சக்கராயுதன், s. Vishnu, விட்டுணு. சக்கரன், s. A discus-bearer in general, சக்கரந்தரித்தோன். 2. Vishnu, விட்டுணு. சக்கரந்திரிக்க, inf. To turn a wheel, as a potter, &c. சக்கரஞ்சுற்ற, inf. To revolve--as a wheel, a planet, &c. 2. To perform a kind of whirling play. (c.) சக்கரத்தேர், s. The circle of planetary signs, or influences occurring in one's life, as given in the horoscope. சக்கரஸ்தாபனம், s. Engraving magical circles on amulets, &c. சக்கரமடைத்தல், v. noun. Making diagrams with appropriate letters on charms, &c. (c.) பூச்சக்கரம், s. A zone of the earth; the mundane sphere, the earth. சக்கராக்கினை, s. An arbitrary punishment inflicted on a person by a despot. 2. The decree of a monarch. (R.) சக்கராங்கனம்--சக்கராங்கிதம், s. The mark of the chakram upon the shoulders, with a hot iron. (R.) சக்கரவர்த்தி--சக்கரேசுரன்--சக்கரேசு வரன், s. An emperor, a monarch. சக்கராதிபதி, s. An independent sovereign. சக்கரபரிபாலனம்பண்ண, inf. To reign, to govern a country. சக்கரப்பொறி, s. A kind of guillotine, ஓர்தண்டனைக்கருவி. சக்கரவாகம்--சக்கரவாகப்புள், s. The ruddy goose--as சக்கரம். 9. சக்கரவாளம்--சக்கரவாளகிரி, s. A range of mountains supposed to encircle the golden region which bounds the 7th circumambient continent and sea. 25)

cingkāram (p. 181) s. (Sa. Srungara.) Ornamental decoration, embellishment, beauty natural or artificial, சிறப்பு. 2. [in rhet.] Love, the passion or sentiment, as an object of poetical description or dramatic representation. See இரசம். 3. Beautiful imagery in narration or description, அலங் காரவருணனை. See அலங்காரம். சிங்காரத்தோட்டம்--சிங்காரத்தோப்பு --சிங்காரவனம், s. A pleasure garden or grove. சிங்காரநடை, s. A graceful walk. சிங்காரக்கழு, s. [prov.] A kind of gallows for executing malefactors. (c.) சிங்காரஞ்செய்ய, inf. To embellish, decorate. சிங்காரப்பாய்ச்சல், s. [prov.] The lively, frisking movements of children, and others. சிங்காரப்பேச்சு, s. Flowery speech, ornamented discourse. சிங்காரமாய்ப்படித்துவந்தான். He has learnt well. இரண்டுநாளையிலேசிங்காரமாய்முடியும். It can easily be done in two days. [prov.] சிங்காரி--சிங்காரக்காரன், s. ciṟ (p. 189) க்கிறேன், ந்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. n. To be elegant, beautiful, adorned, magnificent, splendid, சிங்காரமாயிருக்க. 2. To be graceful, amiable, lovely, அழகாயிருக்க. (c.) 3. To be eminent, excellent, renowned, illustrious, மகிமைப்பட. 4. To exceed, surpass, excel, மேற்பட. 5. To be peculiar, distinguished, விசேஷிக்க. 6. To be dear, precious, valuable; flourishing, அருமையா யிருக்க. 7. To be abundant, excessive, intense, மிகுதியாக. 8. To be auspicious, lucky, fortunate--as a time, &c., மங்கலமாக. சிறந்தவோரை, s. Relatives, உறவினர். சிறந்தவாசிகை, s. A beautiful garland, or other stringed ornament. (p.) வெற்றிசிறக்க, inf. To be splendid, conspicuous, or renowned in victory, to have the celebrity of a conqueror. கல்வியிற்சிறந்தவன், appel. n. One eminent for learning. 19)

cōpi (p. 212) க்கிறது, த்தது, க்கும், க்க, v. n. To be beautiful, splendid, handsome, lustrous, to enhance or set forth beauty, பிரகாசமாயிருக்க. 2. To be ornamented, decorated, be flowery--as language, &c., அலங்காரமாயிருக்க. 3. To faint, swoon, be bereft of consciousness, சோர்வுற; [ex சோபம்.] (c.) தலைப்பாகைஅவன்முகத்துக்குச்சோபிக்கும், The turban will beautify his face. வெள்ளைக்குக்கறுப்புச்சோபிக்கும். tampam (p. 223) --ஸ்தம்பம், s. Post, pillar, column, obelisk, தூண். 2. A post for tying an elephant, யானைத்தறி. 3. Staff, walking stick, support, பற்றுக்கோடு. 4. Fixed posture standing, நிலை. 5. Armor, coat of mail, கவசம். 6. Concert of music, சங்கீதம். 7. Flag-staff, mast, துசஸ்தம்பம். 8. (com. for தம்பளம்.) Enchantment, fascination, stopping by magic, &c. தம்பாகாரமாய். Like a pillar. தம்பம்நிறுத்த, inf. To set up a post, or pillar in celebration of a victory, or as a memorial of the munificence of the prince. தம்பாகிருதி, s. Cylinder. See ஆகிருதி. அக்கினிஸ்தம்பம், s. Pillar of fire. See under அக்கினி. மேகஸ்தம்பம், s. (Christ. usage.) Pillar of cloud.

timiṟu (p. 238) கிறேன், திமிறினேன், வேன், திமிற, v. a. To wriggle one's self out of another's hands, பலாத்காரமாய்விலக. 2. (சது.) To grow, to increase, வளர. 3. v. a. and v. n. [improp. for திமிர்.] To be well rubbed in, as oil, &c., தேய்க்க. 4. [prov. for சிதற.] To be scattered, spilled, &Mp;c., as flour in pounding, சித்த. ஆள்இப்போதுதிமிறிப்போய்விட்டான். He has grown tall and plump. திருடன்கையைத்திமிறிக்கொண்டோடிப்போனான்..... The thief slipped from his hands, and ran away. திமிறிப்பேச, inf. To speak impertinently. திமிறியடிக்க, inf.
