A bright green snake that is said to strike at the eye, the eye-snake; a whip-snake. கண்குவளை, s. The socket of the eye, கட்குழி. கண்குழிதல், v. noun. Sinking of the eyes by disease, emaciation, &c. கண்குளிரப்பார்க்க, inf. To refresh the eyes by viewing a pleasing object--as a dear child, &c., to feast the eyes. கண்குளிர்ச்சி, v. noun. Refreshing, gratifying, pleasing to the sight. கண்குறிப்பு, s. A significant expression of the eye, கண்சமிக்கை. கண்கூச, inf. To see obscurely from the eyes being dazzled. 2. The blind deity--a profane and familiar phrase among the vulgar used in seasons of distress. கண்கொள்ளாக்காட்சி, s. A great or wonderful object, a thing over-powering to the sight, அதிசயக்காட்சி. கண்சமிக்கை, s. A wink with the eyes. கண்சாடை, s. A winking at, taking faint notice of, &c. கண்சாய்ப்பு, s. The skull near the eyes. கண்மயக்கு, s. Fascination of the eyes, bewitching, captivating, கண்ணினா ல்மயக்குமயக்கு. கண்மயிர், s. The eye-lashes. கண்மருட்சி, s. The dazzling of the eye. கண்மருட்டு, s. Fascinating with the eye, கண்ணினாற்செய்யுமருட்டு. கண்மருந்து, s. Medicine for the eyes. 2. A collyrium for ornamenting the eyelids of females. கண்மலர், s. An ornament for the eyes of an idol, a gold or silver ornament to be placed over the eye of an idol and devoted to the temple, விக்கிரகங்க ட்கணியும்விழிமலர். கண்மறிக்காட்டல், v. noun. [prov.] Checking, forbidding, frowning on, or inviting by a signal of the eye. கண்மாயம், s. Ocular deception, illusion, sudden appearance and disappearance--as of a phantom, a thing stolen, &c., கண்ணுக்குத்தோன்றிமறைகை. கண்மின்ன, inf. To flash--as the eyes on fainting or by a blow. கண்மின்னியார்த்தல், v. noun. Growing dim as the eyes when one is dizzy. கண்முகிழ்க்க--கண்மூட, inf. To shut the eyes, cover the eyes, to hoodwink, கண்ணிமைசேர்க்க. 2. To become drowsy, go to sleep, தூங்க. 3. To die, சாவ. 4. To be careless, indifferent, unconcerned at any thing, கவலையில்லா திருக்க. கண்மூடிவிழிக்குமுன்னம். In less than a wink. ஒருகண்மூடியொருகண்விழிக்கிறவன். Regard, favor, condescension. சல்லடைக்கண், s. The holes of a sieve or strainer. ஓரக்கண், s. As வாக்குக்கண். ஓரக்கண்ணன், s. One who is squint-eyed. பருக்கண், s. The orifice of a boil. உடலக்கண்ணன், s. Indra who has his whole frame bespangled with eyes. (கல்லா.) (p.) இல்லிக்கண்ணன், s. One who cannot bear the light and contracts the eyes to shut it out. மாலைக்கண், s. A disease of the eye which causes the sight to fail in the dark. வலைக்கண், s. The meshes of a net. ஊற்றுக்கண், s. The orifice of a spring. பறைக்கண், s. The end of a drum. கொடுங்கண்--தறுகண்--வன்கண், s. Envy, invidiousness. ஆயிரங்கண்ணன், s. Indra who has a thousand eyes. (p.) கூசுகண், s. As சூகைக்கண். விரிகண், s. A sore in the eyelids which causes them to dilate. அவிகண், s. A variety of sore eyes. இழிகண், s. A disease of the eye which causes the eyelids to hang down. அழுகண், s. A complaint in the eye which causes a continual dropping of tears. சொறிகண், s. An itching complaint in the eyelids. சிம்புறுகண், s. The planets in the Hindu system are nine, called நவக் கிரகம், viz.: 1. ஆதித்தன் or ஞாயிறு, the sun. 2. சோமன் or திங்கள், the Moon. 3. அங்காரகன் or செவ்வாய், Mars. 4. புதன், Mercury. 5. பிரகற்பதி--பிரகஸ்பதி or வியாழன், Jupiter. 6. சுக்கிரன் or வெள்ளி, Venus. 7. சனி, Saturn. 8. இராகு, Caput draconis. 9. கேது, Cauda draconis. Practicable, possible, convenient, proper, &c. என்னாற்கூடியபணிவிடைக்குக்காத்திருக்கிறேன். I am ready to do any service in my power. கூடியமட்டும்--கூடியமாத்திரம். As far or as much as possible; as much as one is able; to the utmost. கூடும். It is possible, proper, fit, practicable, lawful, &c. கூடாது. One of the fourteen expressions of the countenance, that of the head erect and fixed--as in contemplation, deep thought, &c., தியானிப் பதுபோற்றலையசைவின்மை. See முகம். சமம்பாவிக்க, inf. tirumāl (p. 240) s. Vishnu, as lord of illusion, in the universe, விட்டுணு; [ex மால், illusion.] திருமாலவதாரம், 1. Ten incarnations of Vishnu. 1. Matsya, மச்சம், a fish assumed to kill சோமுகன், an Asura who had stolen the Vedas and hidden them in the sea. 2. Kurma, கூர்மம். tortoise, assumed to support Mount Mandara, used as a churning stick in churning the sea of milk to obtain Amrita, or nectar. 3. Varáha, வராகம், a boar, assumed to open and spread out the earth which இரணியாக்கன் had rolled up, as a scroll, and sunk in the ocean; and to kill him. 4. Narasingha, நரசிங்கம், manlion, assumed to destroy இரணியகசிபன், the younger brother of இரணியாக்கன், who, to avenge the death of his brother, had abolished the worship of Vishnu.--Note. These four were assumed without parents. 5. Váhmana, வாமனம், the dwarf born of காசிபன் and அதிதி to overcome மாபலி by deceit, coming to him as a beggar. 6. Parasurama, பரசுராமன், or the axe bearing Rama, born of சமதக்கினி and இரேணுகை to kill the Kshtriyas who oppressed the brahmans. 7. Ramachandra, இராமன், king of Ayodhya, born of தசரதன் and கோசலை, to kill Ravana, king of Lanka, and other Rakshasas. 8. Balab'hadra, பலபத் திரன், half brother of krishna; his father's name was வசுதேவன், and he had two mothers, தேவகி and உரோகணி. He come to destroy பிரலம்பன் and his Rakshasas. 9. Krishna, கண்ணன், son of வசு தேவன் and தேவகி, came to excite the wars of the Bharata, and to relieve the earth of its over-burdened population. 1. The horse, கற்கி, yet future, and for the purpose of destroying the universe.--Note. The poet Jayadeva places Krishna as the eighth and makes the ninth, Buddha. Another class of fifteen incarnations of Vishnu is given. 1. சனகன், Sanaka. 2. சனந்தனன், Sanandana. 3. சனாதன், Sanáta. 4. சனற்குமாரன், Sanatkumara.
