kuṟuṇi (p. 132) s. A nominal dry-measure, in quantity equal to the மரக்கால். பானையிலே பதக்கு நெல்லிருந்தால் மூலையிலே முக் குறுணித்தெய்வங்கூத்தாடும். If there be in a pot two குறுணி of paddy, three குறுணி of gods will be dancing in the corners of the house, said of those who spend at once what they have, in the temples, &c., and afterwards suffer want. 39)

The சிறு துளசி plant See துளசி. குறுந்தேங்காய், s. A fruit resembling a cocoanut, cast on shore from the ocean. See சிறுதேங்காய். குறுந்்தொட்டி, s. The சிறுகாஞ்சொறி plant, Hemp-leaved tragia. குறுமீன், s. The name of a fish. குறிது--குறியது, s. A short thing, a low or dwarfish creature, little used. குறியர், (plu. of குறியன்.) s. Dwarfs --opposed to நெடியர். குறுமுனி, s. A name of Agastya; lit. the dwarfish sage. குற்றுடைவாள், s. A cimeter, a short dagger for stabbing an enemy, சிறுவாள். குறுவாழ்க்கை, s. Poverty, தரித்திரம். 2. Short-lived pleasure. (p.) குறுவிசனம்--குறுவிசாரம், s. A gloomy state of mind, melancholy; calamity. குறுவிலை, s. Scarcity, சிறுவிலை. குறுவிழிவிழிக்க, inf. koṭṭu (p. 146) கிறேன், கொட்டினேன், வேன், கொட்ட, v. a. To strike, to beat a drum, a tambourine, &c., to play on an indtrument of music, பறைகின்னரமுதலியகொட்ட. 2. To hammer, beat, malleate--as a brazier, கம்மியரடிக்க. 3. To clap the hands, கைகொட்ட. 4. To dance--as in the கும்மி dance; to frolic, கும்மியடித்தாட. 5. To be shed or cast out, to fall, சிந்த. கொட்டினாற்றேள் கொட்டாவிட்டாற்பிள்ளைப்பூச்சி. If it sting, it is a scorpion; if not, it is a harmless gryllus; i. e. we call things good or bad according to their effect on us. கொட்டிக்கொட்டியளக்க, inf. To cast down and measure again and again; i. e. again, one marcal will not make two. கொட்டிகொட்டியளந்தாலுங்குறுணிபத்தாகாது. Though you measure over and over again, one marcal will not make two. கரப்பன்அள்ளிக்கொட்டிப்போட்டது. An eurption has broken out all over the body. பனிகொட்டுகிறது. The dew falls heavily. கொட்டிக்கொடுக்க, inf. To pour out and give, to give to excess, to lavish, to squander. 2. (fig.) To make a display of words, to say more than is proper. சப்பாணிகொட்ட, inf. [prov.] Drummers--as a caste. கொட்டுக்கிடாரம், s. A large brass boiler made by beating. கொட்டுக்கூடை, s. A metal vessel. 2. A cup-shaped basket. கொட்டுண்ண, inf. To be shed, as leaves, fruits, &c.; to be shot out; to be spilt--as sand, flour, &c. கொட்டுமுழக்கு, v. noun. Beating of drums; an exhibition of drumming. கொட்டுமுறி, s. A superior kind of brass. கொட்டுமண், s. Earth thrown down to improve land, repair a road, &c.; made soil [in opp. to நிலைமண்.] கொட்டுமரம், s. A dyer's block for beating cloth, that it may take the dye. கொட்டுமேளம், s. A kind of drum. 2. Drumming. கொட்டுவாய், s. The part stung by a scorpion other reptile. கொட்டுவான், s. kōyil (p. 150) s. [com. கோவில்.] [ex கோ, et இல், abode.] A palace the residence of a nobleman. or a king, அரமனை. 2. A temple, sanctuary, church, chapel, ஆலயம். 3. A sacred shrine, the abode of a deity, கடவு ளிருக்குமிடம். 4. A metal casket enclosing the சிவலிங்கம், or phallic emblem worn about the person, இலிங்கசம்புடம். 5. A bag, &c., for sacred ashes, விபூதிசம்புடம். 6. [loc.] The pagoda at Chillumbrum, or that at Seringham, சிதம்பரசீரங்கஸ்தலம். 7. [prov.] A parish church, also a parish, கோயிற்பற்று. கோயிற்பூனைதேவருக்கஞ்சாது. The cat in the temple dreads no deity; i. e., too close an intimacy destroys veneration. கோயில்மாடுபோலே. Like a temple cow-spoken of indulged or idle young persons who have their own way, &c. கோயில்கொள்ள, inf. To take possession of a temple, a shrine or the heart-as a deity. (p.) கோயில்சுற்றிக்கும்பிட--கோயில்வலம் வர, inf. To pass round a temple to the right hand, out of homage to it. கோயில்சேவிக்க, inf. [loc.] To serve the temple daily--as musicians. கோயில்மணியகாரன், s. The purveyor or manager of a temple--often a hereditary office. Also கோயில்மணியம். கோயில்மாடு, s. Cows or bulls devoted to a temple. கோயில்வரவு--கோயில் வருமானம், s. The revenue of a temple. கோயிற்கணக்கு, s. Temple accounts. 2. [prov.] The parish registry. கோயிற்காணி--கோயில்மானியம், s. Temple lands. கோயில்குளத்துக்குப்போகாதவன். One who is neglectful of religious ceremonies. கோயிற்கிராமம், s. A village and lands belonging to a temple. கோயிற்படி, s. The daily allowance for the expenditure of a temple, of rice, &c., to the idol, Brahman, servants, &c. கோயிற்பற்று, s. [prov.] A parish, or districts belonging to a church. கோயிற்பிரகாரம், s. The court or enclosure of the temple; [ex பிரகாரம், enclosure.]. கோயிற்பிரதிட்டை, s. The conscration of a temple when the deity is supposed to be brought to take up his abode; [in Christian usage.] also the dedication of a church. கோயிற்புராணம், s. One of the five puranas concerning சிதம்பரம். கோயிற்பூனை, s. (fig.) A dissembler in religion. கோயின்மகமை, s. Free offering or gifts to a temple. See மகமை. கோயின்மேரை, s. (also கோயிற்குறுணி.)
