āṭu (p. 38) கிறேன், ஆடினேன், வேன், ஆட, v. n. To move, wave, shake, vibrate, swing, அசைய. 2. To dance, play, sport. gesticulate, to act a part in play, கூத்தாட. 3. (p.) To wash, bathe, play in water, குளிக்க. 4. To war, fight, join in battle, பொர. 5. To copulate, புணர. 6. [in combination.] To do, to act, செய்ய. 7. To speak, சொல்ல. பணத்துக்காடுகிறான். He is urgently soliciting money. ஆடவை, s. Place of dancing, நிருத்தசபை. ஆடி, s. A dancer. ஆடித்திரிய, inf. To make much ado about a thing. 2. to go around or be too much in company. ஆடுகால், s. Saying. ஆடல்பாடல், s. Singing and dancing. ஆடற்றரு, s. A dancing song used in comedies. ஆட்டம், v. noun. Motion, vibration, agitation, vacillation, rocking, swinging, rolling or pitching (at sea, &c.), அசைவு. 2. Dance, play, game, prank, an act of play, a turn-about, a turn, once playing the game, விளையாட்டு. 3. Likeness, the assumption of a character, profession, conduct, shape in imitation, தன்மை. 4. Moving about, energy, vigor, action, முயற்சி. (c.) அங்கேபோக ஆட்டமாடுகிறான். He insists on going there, (contrary to advice.) இந்த ஆட்டத்துக்கெல்லாமவனசையான். He will not be moved by this agitation. அவன் ஆட்டந்தீர்ந்தது. He power, bustle, agitation, harassing, &c. has come to an end. அவனிரண்டாட்டம் விளையாடினான் ஓராட்டந் தோற்றுப்போனான். He played two games and lost one of them. ஆட்டமடித்தல், v. noun. A play among children in which the புள்ளு, or small stick, being swung round so as to fly t a distance, is struck by the கிட்டி, or larger stick. ஆட்டமெடுக்க, inf. To enter on a rash or odd enterprise, to beat another in the above play. 10)

āriyaṉ (p. 41) s. A learned man, a sage, அறிவுடையோன். 2. A guru or priest, குரு. 3. A poet, புலவன். 4. A superior, மேலவன். 5. A physician, வைத்தியன். 6. kṇi (p. 88) s. A species of flower-tree, the வேங்கைமரம், Pterocarpus marsupium. 2. The name of a caste, &c., ஓர்சாதி. 3. Agricultural districts, மருதநிலம். 4. The profession of singing and dancing, கூத்தாடுந் தொழில். (p.) கணியான், s. (plu. கணியார்.) One who sings or dances. (p.)

kmpm (p. 95) s. A post, a pillar, தூண். 2. A lamp-stand, a candle-stick, &c., விளக் குத்தண்டு. 3. The name of தாலம்பபாஷாணம், வெள்ளைப்பாஷாணம், சாலாங்கபாஷாணம் and கற்பரி பாஷாணம். கம்பக்கூத்து--கம்பநாட்டியம், s. Pole-dancing--it is of two kinds, viz.: ஆரியக்கூத்து and தொம்பர்கூத்து. கம்பக்கூத்தாடி, s. A pole-dancer. கம்பபாணம்--கம்பவாணம், s. [in pyrotechny.] The figure of a man or animal, so constructed as to discharge rockets from the different apertures of the body.

kẕai (p. 99) s. The bamboo, மூங்கில், Bambusa arundinacea. 2. Sugar-cane, க ரும்பு. 3. The seventh lunar asterism, புனர் பூசம். (p.) கழைக்கூத்து, s. Pole-dancing, வே ழம்பர்கூத்து. கழைக்கூத்தர், s. Pole-dancers, வேழம்பர். கழைக்கூத்தாடி, s. A pole-dancer. 4)

kuṇlai (p. 118) s. A Warrior's shout of triumph, joy, valor, or defiance, வீராவேசத்தாற்கொக்க ரிக்கை. 2. (sans. Gun'ani.) A dance with shouting, ஓர்கூத்து. குணலைக்கூத்தாட, inf. To dance with shouting. குணலையிட, inf. To shout, கொக்கரிக்க. 2. To shout with dancing, கூத்தாட. 15) *

kuṟuṇi (p. 132) s. A nominal dry-measure, in quantity equal to the மரக்கால். பானையிலே பதக்கு நெல்லிருந்தால் மூலையிலே முக் குறுணித்தெய்வங்கூத்தாடும். If there be in a pot two குறுணி of paddy, three குறுணி of gods will be dancing in the corners of the house, said of those who spend at once what they have, in the temples, &c., and afterwards suffer want. 39)

kūttu (p. 134) s. (from Sans. Goorda, play, Wils. p. 239.) Dance, dancing; action, performance; ball, நடனம். 2. Dramatic play, comedy, நாடகம். 3. Dance or sport of the deity--as the creation, preservation, and destruction of the universe are considered by Hindu philosophers, திருக் கூத்து. 4. Expression or exhibition of the feelings of the soul in its conscious states, as manifested in the actions and organic functions of the body, according to Hindu psychologists, ஆத்துமசேட்டை. 5. Frolicking, leaping and frisking about, like young boys and girls, விளையாட்டு. 6. Display, pomp, parade, &c.--as viewed by ascetics, பிரபஞ்சநடிப்பு. 7. A strange event or phenomenon, நூதனசெய்கை. 8. Presumption, assumption, vanity--as of young persons--one new in office, &c., spoken in contempt, கோலாகலம். 9. A droll or ludicrous action or performance--as a pantomime, &c., பரிகாசக்கூத்து. 1. (fig. little used.) The instigating or moving cause of an action, தூண்டுகாரணம். கூத்துக்குமீசைசிரைக்கவா. Why shave off the mustaches for mere play; i. e. why do a thing without an object? ஏதேனுங்கூத்துநடக்கும். [prov.] Some disastrous event will happen--said after a bad omen. நாலுநாட்கூத்து. A four day's dance-spoken of worldly prosperity, elevation to office, &c. கூத்தன், s. Dancer, actor, performer, comedian, &c., நாடகன். 2. Soul, life, spirit--as the directing cause of the various corporeal functions and actions, உயிர், ஆத்துமா. (நாலடி.) 3. The deity--as the operating cause in the universe, கட வுள். (p.) கூத்தாட, inf. To dance or play, to exhibit pranks, to take a part in play, நடனஞ்செய்ய. 2. To persist in an improper request, &c., சோலிபண்ண. 3. To be elated by promotion, wealth, &c.; to assume too much, &c., பெருமைகாட்ட. 4. (little used.) To act merely for form's sake, in religion, civilities, mourning, &c., ஒப்புக்குச்செய்ய. கூத்தாடி, s. (fem. கூத்தாடிச்சி.) A dancer, player, an actor, a comedian, நடன். 2. A pole-dancer, கழைக்கூத்தன். கூத்தாட்டு--கூத்தாட்டம், v. noun. Dancing, acting, playing, &c., நடிப்பு. கூத்தாட்டுச்சிலம்பம் படைவெட்டுக்குதவாது. The fencing of the actor will not do in battle. கூத்தி--கூத்திச்சி, s. A female actor or dancer; a dancing girl, நாடகப்பெண். 2. A courtezan, a strumpet, a prostitute, வேசி. 3. A concubine, கூத்தியார். கூத்துக்களரி, s. The area or hall for play; a ball room; a theatre; a circus, &c., நடனசாலை. கூத்துக்காரன், s. (fem. கூத்துக்காரி.) An actor, a dancer, கூத்தாடுவோன். 2. A dancing master, கூத்தாட்டுவோன். 3. A buffoon; a ludicrous, comical person; a mimie, விகடக்காரன். கூத்துப்பயிலிடம், s. A dancing school; a place where dancing is practised. கூத்துப்பாட்டு, s. Dancing tunes, and songs. கூத்துவகை--கூத்தின்விகற்பம், s. The two divisions of dancing, commonly by woman. 1. தேசிகம், modes of dancing in different countries. 2. மார்க்கம், modes of dancing--as laid down in the shastras. கூத்துப்பண்ண, inf. To make fun, sport, &c. 2. To do a droll, funny, action. 3. To confound; to derange. கூத்துவிட, inf. To introduce the actors in a play. 2. [prov.] To say something odd, or droll; to do a funny, humorous thing, pleasing to a company. கூத்துவைக்க, inf. To give a dance, or ball--modern. 7)

capai (p. 160) s. A hall of assembly, a public hall; especially the halls in the temple at Chillumbram (சிதம்பரம்), மண்டபம்,--Note. Five apartments are enumerated in which Siva is said to manifest himself--as கனக சபை, சித்திரசபை, சிற்சபை, தேவசபை, நிருத்தசபை, which see. 2. (c.) [among Christians.] Church-members, திருச்சபையார். சபையிருத்த, inf. To seat a company properly according to their respective rank, to keep them in order, &c. (Little used.) சபையிலிருந்துதள்ள--சபைக்குப்புறம் பாக்க, inf. To exclude or reject from society, to excommunicate. சபையேற, inf. To come before an assembly, to appear--as a performer, &c. 2. To join or mix in society. சபையேறினவன், s. A person accustomed to society. 2. A person of good manners, free from rusticity, &c. சபையுள்ளார், s. The chorus, or the chief singers, in a play, கூத்தாடிகட்கு உதவி யாய்ப்படிப்போர். (p.) சபைவளமை--சபைவண்மை, s. The authority or public acts of an assembly, சபையதிகாரம். (R.) சபையேற்ற, inf.
