māṭṭu (p. 349) கிறேன், மாட்டினேன், வேன், மா ட்ட, v. a. To button, to tackle, பூட்ட. 2. To beat violently, அடிக்க. 3. To put in, as wood into the fire, நுழைக்க. 4. To hook in, to shut, கொக்கிமாட்ட. 4. v. n. [with கொள்ள.] To get entangled. (c.) அவனைநன்றாய்மாட்டினான். He gave him good blows. பறவைகண்ணியில்மாட்டிக்கொண்டது. The bird was entangled in a net. கடிவாளமாட்ட, inf. To bridle. மாட்டிக்கொடுக்க--மாட்டிவிட--மாட் டிவைக்க. inf. To put into the stocks, தொழுவிலேமாட்ட. மாட்டல்--மாட்டுதல், v. noun. Buttoning, fastening, hooking, inserting, beating. மாட்டு, v. noun. A beat, a stroke, as நல்லமாட்டு, good blows. 2. Referring. மாட்டெறிதல், v. noun. A rule of criticism, viz., comparison with other parts of the book. (நன்னூற்பாயிரம்.) 2.
