In most of its meanings, bad or injurious qualities are implied. It differs from கடு மை, in Several meanings. Like that and similar abstract nouns, it drops the termination and combines with other nouns as an adjective, according to rule. வறுமைகொடிது. Poverty is cruel. வயிற்றுக்கொடுமையினால்வருந்துகிறான். He is vexed by want of food. கொடிது--கொடியது, appel. noun. That which is cruel, கொடுமையானது. கொடியகாடு, s. A wild, inhospitable desert. கொடியகூற்றன், s. The cruel Yama. கொடியசண்டாளர், s. Desperate wretches. கொடியபிறவி, s. Vile births--as evils to which souls are subject; horrid transmigration--as keeping the soul from union with the deity. கொடியமனம், s. Even the calf, if associated with the hog, will eat excrement. பன்றிபோலேதின்கிறவன், appel. n. One who gormandizes like a hog. பன்றிக்கரணம், s. One of the astrological karna.
