aṟivu (p. 33) s. Knowledge, wisdom, learning, science, erudition, one of the four ஆடூஉக்குணம், ஞானம். 2. Intelligence, intellect, reason, புத்தி. 3. Feeling, perception, comprehension, உணர்வு. 4. The senses as the medium of knowledge or knowledge acquired by them, பொறியுணர்வு. 5. Instruction, advice, போதனை. (c.) அறிவழி, s. Toddy or other inebriating liquor, கள். 2. Ignorance. அறிவுகொடுக்க--அறிவுகொளுத்த, inf. To impart instruction, teach, instruct. 2. To allow a lucid interval, as to a dying person after a season of stupor, delirium, &c. அறிவுகொடுத்துக் கொல்லும். (Death, disease, &c.) will allow a lucid interval and then kill (him.) அறிவுசொல்ல, inf. To communicate instruction, give good advice, exhort. அறிவுடைமை, v. noun. Knowledge, the possession of knowledge. அறிவுணர்த்த--அறிவுபயிற்ற--அறி வுறுத்த, inf. To instruct, communicate instruction. அறிவுதிக்க, inf. To dawn as wisdom. அறிவுபிறக்க, inf. To dawn as knowledge in the mind, to become instructed, enlightened, informed. 2. To be restored as the senses, consciousness, &c. அறிவுப்பயிற்சி, s. Education. அறிவுமயக்கம், s. Loss of consciousness. அறிவுமயங்க, inf. To faint, lose consciousness either by swooning, fits, sleep, or the approach of death, &c. 2. To be surprised. அறிவுள்ளவன், s. A wise or skilful person. 2. A grateful person. அறிவொப்புக்காண்டல், v. noun. Questioning to ascertain if another's views correspond with one's own. (p.). நுண்ணறிவு, s. Minute or exact knowledge. பேரறிவு, s. iṉṉātu (p. 57) s. Evil, unpleasantness, தீது; [ex இன்.] (p.) ஈ. The fourth vowel of the Tamil alphabet, நான்காமுயிர். 2. A fly in general, ஈயென்னம்பறவை. 3. A bee, தேனீ. 4. A beetle, வண்டு. 5. A poetic expletive, முன் னிலையசைச்சொல்--as சென்றீபெரும, Proceed great man. This example given in the native grammars appears to be the only one found. ஈச்சோப்பி--ஈயோட்டி, s. A whisk for flies, a fly-flapper. ஈப்பி, s. Nits, eggs or scurf in the hair, ஈர். ஈப்பிவைக்க, inf. To be formed as nits or scurf in the hair. ஈப்புலி, s. An insect, a species of spider, ஈயைக்கொல்லும்பூச்சி. ஈயெச்சத்தோல், s. [prov.] The skin of an animal, or of the palmyra fruit when worm-eaten, or fly-blown; [vul. ஈச்சத்தோல்.] 66)

kol (p. 146) --கொல்லு, கிறேன், கொன்றேன், வேன், கொல்ல, v. a. To take life, kill, slay, murder, கொலைசெய்ய. 2. To deprive mercury of its metallic properties by oxidation; to kill mercury, &c., இரசமுதலிய வற்றைக்கொல்ல. (c.) 3. (fig.) To vex, tease; to molest by continual importunity, அலட்ட. அரசனன்றுகொல்லுந்தெய்வம்நின்றுகொல்லும். The king is swift in executing judgment, but God waits. பார்க்கும்பார்வைஆsைக்கொன்றுபோடும். [in gram.] The connection of a word with the பயனிலை by omitting a particle, வேற்று மையுருபுமுதலியதொக்குநிற்றல்.--It embrasces six varieties; 1. வேற்றுமைத்தொகை, the omission of the sign or from of the case, as பொன்கொடுத்தான், for பொன்னைக்கொடுத் தான். 2. வினைத்தொகை, a verb without the sign of the tense, combined with a noun, as கொல்புலி for கொன்றபுலி, கொல்கின்றபுலி, கொல்லும்புலி. 3. பண்புத்தொகை, omission of the adjective sign ஆகிய or ஆய in combining the qualifying epithet with the noun, as கருங்குவளை for கருமையாகியகுவளை, or two nouns in apposition, as ஆதிபக வன். 4. உவமைத்தொகை, the combination of two words with the omission of the sign of comparison, as பான்மொழி for பால் போலுமொழி. 5. உம்மைத்தொகை, omission of the particle உம், as கபிலபாணர் for கபிலனு ம்பாணனும்; also இராப்பகல் for இராவும், பகலும். --Note. In this combination. there is commonly no reduplication. 6. அன்மொ ழித்தொகை, a metonomy or omission of a word, commonly the name of a person, immediately after any of the five preceeding ellipses, as பொற்றொடி. for பொற் றொடியையுடையாள், the golden braceletdamsel. தொகைநிலைச்செய்யுள், s. A poem consisting of a fixed, even number of verses, ஓர்பிரபந்தம். தொகைநிலைத்தொடர்மொழி, s. As உவ மைத்தொகை. (R.) தொகைநிலையுருவகம், s. [in rheto.] A perfect metaphor, ஓரலங்காரம். தொகைபடுவது, appel. n.
