The first post of the marriage shed when planted on the fifth day before the marriage, the third, fifth, or seventh day being chosen, as it may be lucky or otherwise, according to astrological calculation, மணப்பந்தரின் ஐந்தாங்கால். ஐந்தானம், s. (Little used.) கீழ்ப்பாறை, s. A subterranean cell or cavern, கீழறை. (Rott.) 2. An understratum of rock, கீழிருக்கும்பாறை. கீழ்ப்புறம், s. The lower side, the underside, கீழ்ப்பக்கம். 2. The leeward or the leaning side of a vessel, தாழ்ந்தபக்கம். கீழ்மகன், s. A person of low caste, a mean person, இழிந்தோன். 2. The planet saturn, சனி. கீழ்மக்கள், s. Inferiors, low-caste people, the base, the vulgar, the ignorant, இழிந்தோர். கீழ்மாரி--கீழ்வாரி, s. Rain or thunder in the distance, towards the horizon. கீழ்மாரிகொள்ளுகிறது. It thunders at a distance. கீழ்மாரிகொண்டுமுழங்க, inf. To thunder near the horizon. கீழ்வயிறு, s. The lower part of the belly, abdomen, அடிவயிறு. கீழ்க்கதுவாயளபெடை, s. [in prosody.] One of the eight அளபெடைத்தொடை, in which the first letter of every foot in a line, except the penultimate, is prolonged in sound. கீழ்க்கதுவாயியைபு, s. [in prosody.] A rhyme in which the last letter of every foot of a line, except the second, is the same ஒரியைபுத்தொடை. கீழ்க்கதுவாயெதுகை, s. [in prosody.] A rhyme or தொடை, in which the second letter, of every foot of a line, but the penultimate, is the same, ஓரெதுகைத்தொ டை. கீழ்க்கதுவாய், s. [in prosody.] Rhyming or தொடை in every foot but the penultimate; and in இயைபுத்தொடை, in every foot but the second, கதுவாய்த்தொ டையினொன்று. கீழ்க்கதுவாய்முரண், s. [in prosody.] A rhyme or தொடை, in which the first word in every foot of a line, except the penultimate, has different meanings, முரண் டொடை. கீழ்க்கதுவாய்மோனை, s. [in prosody.] A rhyme or தொடை in which the first letter of every foot of a line, but the penultimate, is the same, ஓர்மோனைத்தொடை. கீழ்மை, v. noun. Lowness, meanness, inferiority, baseness, இழிவு. 2. Submissiveness, humbleness, தாழ்மை. கீழண்டை, s. [vul.] East. கீழைத்தெரு, s. The eastern street. கீழைப்புறம், s. The eastern side, part. கீழ்ச்சீமை, s. the eastern country. கீழ்வாடை, s. The north-east wind. கீழ்விதேகம், s. The eastern Videha country--one of the nine divisions of the known continent. See விதேகம். கீழ்காய்நெல்லி, s. A medicinal plant, கீழாநெல்லி, Phillanthus niruri. கீழ்பால், s. The east, கிழக்கு. கீழ்பூமி, s. The lower or nether parts of the earth, பூமியின்கீழ்ப்புறம். 2. The nether worlds, கீழுலகம். கீழ்ப்பக்கம், s. The east side. 2. The underside. கீழ்வாயிலக்கம், s. Fractional parts or denominations. 2. [modern usage.] Denominator of a fraction--opposed to மேல் வாயிலக்கம், the numerator. கீழ்வாய், s. kuppuṟu (p. 122) கிறேன், குப்புற்றேன், வேன், குப் புற, v. n. To fall prostrate, on the face and front of the body, முகங்குப்புறவிழ. 2. To incline the face downwards, தலைகுனிய. 3. To pass over, to leap over, கடக்க. 4. to jump down, பாய. பிள்ளைகுப்புற்றுக்கொள்ளுகிறது. The child lies with the face downwards. குப்புறத்தள்ள, inf. To throw one down upon the face. குப்புறப்படுக்க--குப்புறக்கிடக்க, inf. To lie, or sleep, on the face. குப்புறப்பிடிக்க, inf. To hold--as an infant--with the face downwards. குப்புறவிழ-குப்புற்றுவிழ, inf. To trip and fall forward, to fall flat on the face --generally involuntarily. குப்புறவிழுந்துபடுத்துக்கொண்டான். kūṟu (p. 136) s. Part, portion, share, subdivision, பங்கு. 2. The natural, chemical, chemical, or anatomical parts of a man of other animal; component, original parts, or principles of material existences. இயற்கைக்கூறு. 3. Modification and diversities in the forms of bodies; varied evolutions of primitive matter, விகாரத்தன்மை. 4. Section, division, department, பகுதி. 5. The properties, qualities or nature of a thing; characteristic symptoms of a disease, கூறுபாடு. 6. Effect, result, product, காரணகாரியங்களின் வகை; [ex குறு, to shorten by division, &c.] 7. v. noun. Proclamation, publication, அறிவிக்கை; [ex கூறு to proclaim.] 8. s. Oily grain, எள்ளு. (M. Dic. முழுக்கூறும்வேண்டும். I want it all. கூறிட--கூறுசெய்ய, inf. To cut in two, bisect, subdivide. 2. To set in portions or small quantities. கூறுகூறாக்க, inf. To cut or separate into portions; to apportion. கூறுவைக்க, inf. To set in portions or separate quantities, to distribute and set in small heaps--as a retailer for sale. கூறுகொள்ள, inf. To stuff, cram, press any thing down with a stick, the feet or the hands. குழந்தை மண்ணைக் கூறுகொள்ளுகிறது. The child eats sand. சோற்றைகூறுகொள்ளுகிறான். [prov.] He thrusts rice into his mouth. கூறுபட, inf. To be divided or resolved into its primitive elements. கூறுபடுத்த, inf. To analyze, to distribute. 2. To resolve or reduce bodies into their original parts or primitive elements; to produce the varied transformations of nature. கூறோலை--கூற்றோலை, s. An ola-writing for the division of property among heirs. தைபிற்கூறு, s. The latter part of January. நடுக்கூற்றிலே, In the middle; in the middle part. மாசிமுற்கூறு, s. The first part of February. அக்கினியின்கூறு, s. The effects of heat in the system, &c. 2. Heat, caloric. சரீரக்கூறு, s. The temperament of the body. 2. kaikkoḷḷ (p. 140) inf. To take of receive in hand, to occupy, to take or have in charge, ஒப்புக்கொள்ள. 2. To keep a law, to observe a day, a fast, &c., to practise rules, ordinance, &c., பேணிக்கொள்ள. 3. koḷ (p. 147) --கொள்ளு, கிறேன், கொண் டேன், வேன், கொள்ள, v a. To take, receive with the hand, வாங்கிக்கொள்ள. 2. To contain, hold, comprehend, have, comprise, embrace, அடக்கிக்கொள்ள. 3. To buy, purchase, விலைக்குக்கொள்ள. 4. To accept, approve of, admit, அங்கீகரிக்க. 5. To take a wife, to marry, பெண்கொள்ள. 6. To take --as food, medicine, sleep, rest, &c., உணவு முதலியகொள்ள. 7. To conceive--as in the womb, in the mind or in the heart. 8. To get, to acquire, பெற்றுக்கொள்ள. 9. v. n. To be contained in, அடங்க. As an auxiliary to other verbs, கொள் denotes, continuation, certainly, &c., of the action, and that the fruit of it reverts to the agent-as படித்துக்கொள்ளுகிறான். He continues to study, குதிரையைவாங்கிக்கொண்டேன். I bought a horse for myself. The verb is generally found in composition with other words --as வாங்கிக்கொள்ள, பெண்கொள்ள, உட்கொள்ள, &c., and very rarely in the personal finite forms in common usage, except in the third meaning. கொள்வாருமில்லைகொடுப்பாருமில்லை.... There are none who receive, none who give. கொண்டிருந்துகுலம்பேசுகிறதா? Would it be proper to twit a family after you have taken a wife from it? கொண்டான், s. A husband, புருஷன். 2. A play as கொண்டல். See under கொண் டு, for other words. கொண்டுபோக, inf. To carry, to convey; to take away. கொள்க, [obtative.] May take, accept, or may uderstand. உமதுசித்தத்தின்படிகொள்க. You may take it as you please. கொள்கலம், s. A vessel, a salver, a dish; a receptacle for sandal-paste, or other ointments, or for ornaments, &c., சாந்துமுதலியபெய்கலம். 2. A cup of palm leaf, or bamboo to eat from, பிழர. (சது.) A beggar's dish, இரப்போர்கலம். கொள்கை, v. noun. The act of taking, getting, &c. See, கொள், v. 2. Quality, nature, habit, state, குணம். 3. Liking, fondness, regard, attachment, intimacy, சினேகம். 4. Opinions, tenets, belief, கோ ட்பாடு. 5. Knowledge, instruction, அறிவு. அவருக்குமிவருக்குமிகுந்தகொள்கை. [prov.] They two are very intimate. கிழவியிவனோடேமிகுந்தகொள்கையாயிருக்கிறாள். The old woman is very fond of him. கொள்கொம்பு, s. A prop supporting vines. (R.) கொள்வனை--கொள்வனவு--கொள்வினை, v. noun. Buying, borrowing; taking receiving வியாபாரக்கொள்ளுகை. 2. Marrying a wife, பெண்கொள்ளுகை. கொள்வனைகொடுப்பனை, v. noun. Borrowing and lending. 2. Giving and receiving in marriage. 3. [vul. loc.] Taking, receiving; buying, borrowing, கொள்ளுகை. கொள்விலை--கொள்கிரயம், s. The first or prime cost, the sum paid for a thing exclusive of profit, &c., கொண்டவிலை. 2. [prov.] Purchase, purchased land or property, விலைக்குக்கொண்டது. 3. One of the three species of real property. See சீதனம் and பிதிரார்ச்சிதம். கொள்விலைக்காணி, s. [prov.] Land attained by purchase, as distinguished from lands by dowry and inheritance. கொள்விலைக்காரன், s. The purchaser of land, &c. கொள்வோன், s. One who buys, or one who accepts any thing. 2. (நன்.) a pupil, student, learner, கற்போன். கொள்ள, [adverbially.] While, when-as நான்வரக்கொள்ள, while I was coming. 2. Since, therefore, because, as இருக்கக்கொ ள்ள, since it is so. ஆகக்கொள்ள, in the phrase நாளையவன்வருவானாகக்கொள்ள, he will come tomorrow, therefore, [tarry.] 3. (Rott.) as கொள்க in the phrase கொள் ளாதநோய்கொள்ள, may you be seized with an insupportable disease--a malediction. 4. [prov.] More, further on, in or under --as கொஞ்சங்கொள்ளவார், pour out a little more; also in கொள்ளக்கொடு, insert a lever, or land, further in, further under, &c., or let a pair of scissors or pincers take a good hold; and in கொள்ளப்பிடி, take hold further in measuring cloth. கொளல்வினா, s. [in gram.] One of the six kinds of interrogation, implying a desire to obtain the thing mentioned --as அரிசியுளதோ, have you got any rice? wishing to buy some. கொள்ளல்--கொளல், v. noun. Taking, receiving, obtaining, buying, &c. கொள்ளற்பாடு, [prov.] Estimation, worth, honor, மேன்மை. கொள்ளாதசெய்கை, s. A fragrantly wicked, unbearable act. கொள்ளாதசிறை, s. One assiduous as a slave--spoken of an affectionate, faithful wife, or a dependent. கொள்ளாதபுகழ், s. Unbounded praise. கொள்ளாமை, v. noun. (neg.) Excessiveness transcedency, pre-eminence in good or evil. 2. Disagreement, discordance, enmity, பகை. வாய்கொள்ளாப்பேச்சு. Language not proper to be used. கொள்ளார், s. Haters, enemies, பகை வர். (சது.) இரட்டித்துக்கொள்ள, inf. See இரட் டிக்க. அர்த்தங்கொள்ள, ஆசைகொள்ள, தலைகொள்ள, துயர்கொள்ள, நாட்கொள்ள, நிலைகொள்ள, நீர்கொள் ள, பைத்தியங்கொள்ள, மேற்கொள்ள, வேர்கொள்ள, are some of the compounds. 15)
