ēkam (p. 76) s. Unit in arithmetic, ஒன்று. 2. That which is unique, absolute, ஒப்பற் றது. 3. Solitariness, தனிமை. 4. Union, unison, உடன்பாடு. 5. The total, the whole, good and bad--great and small, altogether, மொத்தம். In this meaning it seems limited to the oblique cases. Wils. p. 17. EKA. ஏககாலத்திலே. At once, in a single act. 2. Coeval, contemporary, together. ஏகத்துக்கிருட்டு. It is very dark. என்ன, inter. What? what kind? what manner? why? யாது. 2. Participle third person plural, irrational class of the symbolic verb என், but used in common for the singular, also instead of என்னது or எற்று, குறிப்புப்பெயரெச்சம். என்னத்துக்காக. A forest in which the Pandus retired for some time. ஏகசமன்--ஏகசமானம், s. Uniformity, likeness, smallness, ஒருநிகர். ஏகசரம், s. The rhinoceros, காண் டாமிருகம். Wils. p. 12. EKACHARA. ஏகசிந்தை, s. Unanimity, ஒரும னது. 2. Implicitness, singleness of purpose, undivided attention, ஒன்றிலேசெல் லுஞ்சிந்தை. ஏகசிந்தையாயிருக்க, inf. To be unanimous. 2. To be intent on, or wholly engaged in a thing. ஏகசுபாவம், s. Uniformity of disposition in a person, ஒரேதன்மை. 2. Similarity of nature in different persons, சமமானசுபாவம். ஏகதந்தன், s. Ganesa--the one tusked--the other having been broken off and cast at his foe கயமுகாசுரன் in combat, விநாயகன். Wils. p. 17. EKADANTA. (p.) ஏகதாளம், s. kvi (p. 98) s. Planet venus, சுக்கிரன். 2. A poet, a versifier, புலவன். Wils, p. 24. KAVI. 3. An ape, a monkey, குரங்கு. 4. A plant, பூனைக்காலி. 5. One of the four classes of poets, நாற்கவி. (See புலமையோர்.) 6. Poetry, verse, a stanza, பாட்டு. (p.) Poetry is of four kinds, viz.: 1. ஆசுகவி, an extemporaneous poem made by request, the theme, the kind of verse and some of the rhetorical figures to be wrought into it being given. 2. மதுரகவி, a poem in which sublime and gratifying ideas are couched in rich language, with varied appropriate rhymes and rhetorical figures, and all in a sweet flowing style. 3. சித்திரகவி, a poem variously of artfully composed. (See மிறைக் கவி.) 4. வித்தாரகவி, an extended poem, such as the great epics Ramayana and Bharata.--Note. Each of these four is also applied to the poet as well as to the poem. கவிகட்ட--கவிபாட inf. To make verses. கவிகற்றோர், s. Panegyrists attending a prince in his movements, மங்க லப்பாடகர். கவிசொல்ல, inf. To make poetry. கவிச்சக்கரவர்த்தி, s. A distinguished poet, புலவன். கவிஞர், s. Poets, bards, புலவர். 2. Scientific persons, கலைவல்்லோர். (p.) கவிதை, s. A poem, poetry, verse, a verse of poetry, stanza, பா. (p.) கவித்துவம், s. Poetic style or composition, புலமைத்தன்மை. கவிநாயகன், s. The person to whom a poem is dedicated, who is also the hero, கவிக்கிறைவன். கவிமாலை, s. Verses joined together. கவிரத்தினம், s. A treatise on versification. கவிராயன், s. (Hon.) A poet, புல வன். கவிவல்லோர்--கவிவாணர் s. Learned poets, bards, புலவர். கவிவீரராகவமுதலியார், s. Revolution of the planets, கிரகவட்டம். 6. The respective courses of planets as influencing a man's life, கிரகபல ச்சக்கரம். 7. A hand-mill, சக்கரஎந்திரம். 8. Diagrams of various sorts for predicting events, and ascertaining auspicious days, &c., கோட்டியந்திரம். (c.) 9. A fabled carniverous bird, called the ruddy goose, சக்கரவா கப்புள். 1. A stanza curiously constructed, of a few letters in the periphery and radii of a circle, to be repeated over and over in the reading, ஓர்மிறைக்கவி.--It embraces three varieties; viz.: நான்காரைச்சக்கரம்.ஆறா ரைச்சக்கரம் and எட்டாரைச்சக்கரம். (தண்டி.) அவனுக்கிதோடேசக்கரமறுதி. His course of life will end with this. சக்கரத்தில் கிடந்தாடுகிறான். He is captivated, enamored--said of a lover. 2. His mind is engrossed, as by the love of money, &c. சக்கரயூகம், s. The circular array of an army--as சகடயூகம். சக்கரவாவி, s. A circular tank famed in mythology. சக்கராகாரம், s. A circular figure, roundness, விருத்தவடிவு. வில்லைச்சக்கராகாரமாய் வளையவாங்கினான். He bent his bow in a circle. (இராமா.) சக்கரபாணி, s. Vishnu, விட்டுணு. 2. Durga, துர்க்கை; [ex பாணி, hand.] சக்கராயுதத்தி--சக்கராயுதி, s. Durga-the discus-armed, துர்க்கை. (p.) சக்கராயுதன், s. Vishnu, விட்டுணு. சக்கரன், s. A discus-bearer in general, சக்கரந்தரித்தோன். 2. Vishnu, விட்டுணு. சக்கரந்திரிக்க, inf. To turn a wheel, as a potter, &c. சக்கரஞ்சுற்ற, inf. To revolve--as a wheel, a planet, &c. 2. To perform a kind of whirling play. (c.) சக்கரத்தேர், s. A car with wheels. See தேர். (c.) சக்கரபாணம்--சக்கரவாணம், s. A wheel rocket. (c.) சக்கரமுடிவு, s. The end of one's life, as indicated in the சாதகம் or nativity. கிரகராசிச்சக்கரம், s. The circle of planetary signs, or influences occurring in one's life, as given in the horoscope. சக்கரஸ்தாபனம், s. Engraving magical circles on amulets, &c. சக்கரமடைத்தல், v. noun. Making diagrams with appropriate letters on charms, &c. (c.) பூச்சக்கரம், s. A zone of the earth; the mundane sphere, the earth. சக்கராக்கினை, s. An arbitrary punishment inflicted on a person by a despot. 2. The decree of a monarch. (R.) சக்கராங்கனம்--சக்கராங்கிதம், s. The mark of the chakram upon the shoulders, with a hot iron. (R.) சக்கரவர்த்தி--சக்கரேசுரன்--சக்கரேசு வரன், s. An emperor, a monarch. சக்கராதிபதி, s. An independent sovereign. சக்கரபரிபாலனம்பண்ண, inf. To reign, to govern a country. சக்கரப்பொறி, s. A kind of guillotine, ஓர்தண்டனைக்கருவி. சக்கரவாகம்--சக்கரவாகப்புள், s. The ruddy goose--as சக்கரம். 9. சக்கரவாளம்--சக்கரவாளகிரி, s. A range of mountains supposed to encircle the golden region which bounds the 7th circumambient continent and sea. 25)

piramam (p. 317) s. [com. ப்ரம்மம்.] Brahm the Supreme Being, கடவுள். 2. According to the Vedantie philosophy, the divine cause and essence of the world, from which all things (below) emanate, and to which they return. ஆதிகாரணம். 3. The Vedas or holy scriptures, said to proceed from the mouths of Brahma. வேதம். 4. Bliss, liberation, from births, absorption in the deity, முத்தி. 5. Religious austerities, தவம், 6. The guilt of brahmanicide as attaching to the soul and haunting the murderer. See under அத்தி. பிரமகத்திதோஷம்-பிரமகத்தியாதோஷம், s. Guilt of brahmanicide. பிரமகத்திதொலையல், v. noun. Terminating of the guilt of brahmanicide. பிரமகபாலம், s. The skull of the upper of fifth head of Brahma, plucked off by Siva, in the form of Bhairava, for pride; and worn by Siva as a part of his garland, or carried in his hand when begging, பிரமன்றலைஓடு. பிரமகற்பம், s. The age of Brahma. See கற்பம். பிரமகன்னிகை, s. A female of the Brahman caste, பிராமணப்பெண். 2. Sarasvati, சரஸ்வதி. பிரமகாதகன், s. Murderer of a brahman, பிராமணக்கொலைபாதகன். பிரமகாயத்திரி, s. The sacred incantation repeated by the brahmans, in their daily worship. See under காயத்திரி. பிரமகிரந்தி, s. Tying together, two stems of sacrificial grass in representation of the sexual union of Siva and Sakti, in the pujah or worship of the கிரி யைக்காரன், ஓர்முடிச்சு; [ex கிரந்தி, knot.] பிரமகுலம், s. The Brahman caste. பிரமகைவர்த்தம், s. One of the eighteen Puranas, in which the sun is regarded as the Supreme Being. See புராணம். (சது.) --The description in the Sans. Dict. is different. பிரமக்கியானம், s. As பிரமஞானம். பிரமக்கியானி, s. See பிரமஞானி. பிரமசடங்கம், s. Touching six members of the body, while repeating the five lettered incantation appropriated to the five faces of Siva, as representing the five operative dcities, ஆறங்கத்தோடு செய்யுஞ்செபம். பிரமசரியம்--பிரமசாரித்துவம், s. The order, condition or religious practice of the Brahmachari or religious unmarried student, நான்கு நிலையினொன்று. பிரமசரியமனுட்டிக்க, inf. To commence the practice of a religious student, commonly about the sixteenth year. பிரமசாபாலம், s. One of the thirty-two Upanishads, உபநிடதமுப்பத்திரண்டினொன்று. பிரமசாரி, s. The religious bachelorstudent, the first of the four orders prescribed for the brahmanical tribe. See ஆச்சிரமம். 2. Bishma, a son of king சந்தனு. பிரமசாரிசந்நியாசி, s. One who passes from the student to the ascetic or fourth order, without passing through the intermediate stages, பிரமசரியத்தினின்றுஞ்சன் னியாசியாச்சிரமத்திற்புகுந்தோன். பிரமசித்தி, s. Success, in acquiring a knowledge of the deity. பிரமசூத்திரம், s. A thread or cord consisting of three threads worn by brahmans, புரிநூல். 2. The name of a treatise, ஓர்நூல். பிரமசைதன்னியம், s. The original or first cause, God, கடவுள். பிரமஞானம், s. Experimental knowledge of the deity. 2. Regarding every thing as god. பிரமஞானி, s. One who has made great attainments in the knowledge of God, so as to become one with Him, பரமஞானி. பிரமதண்டம், s. A stick to support the chin, used by brahmans, in meditation. பிரமதண்டு, s. A stick used by devotees or yogis, யோகதண்டம். 2. See பிரமம், giddiness. பிரமதத்துவம், s. True knowledge of the Supreme deity, மெய்ஞ்ஞானம். பிரமதாயம், s. What is allowed to brahmans, or held free by them. பிரமதானம்--பிரமஸ்தானம், s. The inmost recess in a temple where the chief idol is placed, as கர்ப்பக்கிரகம். பிரமதேவன், s. The god Brahma, the Creator or Evolver of worlds. பிரமத்துவம், s. The divine nature, கட வுட்டன்மை. பிரமநிருவாணம், s. Union with the deity, கடவுளுடனொன்றுகை. பிரமபதம்--பிரமபதவி, s. The world of Brahma, an inferior state of bliss. பிரமபுத்திரம், s. The river, Brahmaputra, ஓர்நதி. பிரமபுத்திரி, s. The Sarasvati river, சரஸ்வதியாறு. 2. The goddess Sarasvati, சரஸ்வதி. பிரமபுரம், s. Seehali, a town in Southern India on the northern bank of the Cavery, சீகாழி. பிரமபுராணம், s. Puranas which teach that Brahma is the chief deity. In the celebrated eighteen there are two of this class. the பிரமம், and the பதுமம். (சது.) பிரமப்பிரளயம், s. The deluge at the end of the life of Brahma, பிரமனாயுள்முடி வில்வரும்பிரளயம். பிரமமணம், s. One of the eight modes of marriage. See மணம். பிரமமுனி--பிரமரிஷி, s. A Rishi of the Brahman caste, as most of them are. பிரமமூலி, s. A medicinal plant. See பிரமி. பிரமயாகம், s. One of the five யாகம், எச்சமைந்தினொன்று. பிரமயோனி, s. The birth, origin, or extraction of a brahman, பிராமணப்பிறப்பு. பிரமரட்சு, s. A savage man of a monstrous size, பருத்தமுருடன். பிரமரந்திரம், s. The tender part of the crown of the head where the bone is not formed in infancy, and through which it is said the soul of a yogi departs when he chooses to die, உச்சித்துவாரம். பிரமராட்சதன், s. A goblin or savage animated by the soul of a brahman, who in a former birth died with unexpiated sin. பிரமராட்சதி-பிரமராட்சதை, s. The ghost of a brahmani who having died a violent death appears in the form of a demon, inhabiting trees and possessing all the knowledge previously obtained, பார்ப் பாரப்பெண்பேய். பிரமலிபி, s. The writing of Brahma in the forehead of all persons before birth; fate, destiny. See தலைஎழுத்து. பிரமலிபிதப்பாது. The writing of Brahma will not fail. பிரமலோகம், s. The world and heaven of Brahma, being the seventh and highest of the seven upper worlds, also called சத்தியலோகம். (சது.) பிரமவமிசம், s. Lineage in succession from Brahma. 2. The race of brahmans, பிராமணசாதி. பிரமவாதம், s. The religious tenets of the Vedas considered systematically, வேதமதம். பிரமவித்து, s. One of the four grades of those who pursue a true and perfect knowledge of the deity, நால்வகைமுத்தரி லொருவன். பிரமவிந்து--பிரமபிந்து. s. The seed, or progeny of a brahman, &c., பிராமணவிந்து. 2. One of the thirty-two Upanishads. See உபநிடதம். பிரமனாள், s. The fourth lunar asterism, உரோகிணி. (சது.) பிரமன்--பிரமா, s. Brahma of the Triad, as creator, progenitor or evolver of worlds and creatures, நான்முகன். பிரமன்--பிரமா, s. Brahma of the Triad, as creator, progenitor or evolver of worlds and creatures, நான்முகன். பிரமன்றந்தை, s. Vishnu as father of Brahma, விஷ்ணு. பிரமாஞ்சலி, s. A form of worship in which the two hands are joined, and placed at the breast. பிரமாட்சரம், s. A letter which is the origin of all letters, and the prime root of all prayers and incantations, மூலவெ ழுத்து. பிரமாண்டம், s. The system of worlds, as created by Brahma, உலகம். 2. One of the eighteen Puranas, பதினெண்புரா ணத்தொன்று. 3. [fig.] That which is large, gigantic, huge, colossal, காத்திரம். (usage.) பிரமாண்டநாயகன், s. Lord of the universe, கடவுள். 2. An epithet used in praise, or compliment, சக்கரவர்த்தி. பிரமாத்திரம்--பிரமாஸ்திரம், s. A famous arrow of supernatural qualities, given by Brahma to some, who had practised extraordinary austerities. பிரமாந்தரம், s. Certain parts of the body regarded as stations of the soul, உயிர்நிலை. பிரமாயு, s. The age of Brahma, as பிர மகற்பம்; [ex ஆயு.] பிரமாயுதம், s. A number, one million, பத்திலட்சம். (சது.) பிரமாரண்ணியம், s. The name of a town called வேதாரண்ணியம். பிரமாலயம், s. The house of a brahman. பிரமானந்தம், s. Heavenly bliss, or felicity, as பரமானந்தம். பிரமோத்தரகாண்டம், s. The last section of chapter of the Brahma Purana, added by the Saivas concerning Gokarnam, பிரமபுராணத்துக்கடைக்காண்டம். பிரமோற்சவம், s. An annual grand festival at a pagoda. 3) *
