சனி
caṉi (p. 173) s. The planet Saturn, the most, malignant, in astrological influence of all the planets, ஓர்கிரகம். 2. Saturday, சனிக்கி ழமை. W. p. 829. S'ANI. 3. (fig.) A person of ill omen whose company is dangerous, சனிபோன்றவன்.--Note. The different positions and influences of the planet are. (1.) அஷ்டமசனி. See under அஷ்டம். (2.) நாலாமிடத்துச்சனி, called also அர்த்தாஷ்டம சனி. Saturn in the fourth sign from that of one's birth, where his influence is less malignant. (3.) இரண்டாமிடத்துச்சனி, or பாதச் சனி. Saturn in the sign nest to that in the ascendant, where his influence is indicative of eloquence and oratory. (4.) ஏழ ரையாண்டுச்சனி. Saturn's 7?? years' evil influence called ஏழரை, and divided into three parts, மங்குசனி, பொங்குசனி, மரணச்சனி which see. As saturn is 2?? years in each sign of the zodiac, it occupies 7?? years for three signs, so that a man living ninety years would pass three times through all these periods. See ஏழரை. (5.) பன்னிரண்டாமிடத்துச் சனி. Saturn in the 12th sign from that in the ascendant. (6.) சன்மச்சனி. Saturn in the ascendant. (7.) மகத்துச்சனி. Saturn in the first lunar asterism of Leo called மகம், indicating great calamities. (8.) மீனச்சனி. Saturn in the Pices, considered unpropitious in its influence. இவனெனக்கு மகத்துச்சனிபோலிருக்கிறான். He is a great enemy to me. சனிகழிய--சனியன்றொலைய, inf. To expire or end as any period of saturn's malign influence on a person. 2. To terminate as a cause of calamity, evil, &c. சனிக்கிழமை--சனிவாரம், s. Saturday. சனிக்கிழமைவிரதம், s. [also சனிவிர தம்.] A fast on Saturdays, to avert the evil influences of Saturn, when, before eating, crows, emblems of Saturn, are fed. 2. A fast in honor of Vishnu. சனிபகவான்--சனீச்சுரன், s. The regent of Saturn. சனிபிடித்தல், v. noun. Being seized by Saturn, brought under his malignant influence. 2. (fig.) Being assailed by adverse circumstances, துன்புறுதல். சனிமுழுக்கு, v. noun. Bathing on Saturdays. சனிமூலை, s. The north east, (lit.) Saturn's quarter, வடகிழக்கு. சனியன், s. Saturn the planet. 2. An unlucky person, associating with whom may bring evil. 3. A troublesome person, animal, thing, circumstance, &c. இவன் எனக்குச் சனியனாய் வந்தான். He is a Saturn (an inauspicious person) to me. சனிவேதை, s. The influence of Saturn; pain, சனிதோஷம். (R.) சனிக்காசு, s. A small coin paid to the master, by the scholars, on Saturdays. சனிப்பாட்டு, s. [loc.] A song or poem sung by the boys of a school, near the end of a year, to obtain presents from their parents, and others, for the master. சனியெண்ணெய், s. The oil collected by scholars, from their parents, for their teacher, on Saturdays. 66) *

toṭu (p. 262) கிறேன், தொட்டேன், வேன், தொட, v. a. To touch, to come in contact with, to feel, to perceive by thr touch, பரிசிக்க. 2. To handle, to take hold of, to finger, to use, பிடிக்க. 3. To be connected or united, to be joined, &c., பொருத்த. 4. To begin, தொடங்க. (c.) 5. To discharge an arrow or other missile weapon. அம்பெய்ய. 6. To eat, உண்ண. 7. To dig, to scoop out, to excavate, தோண்ட. 8. To put on shoes or a garment, தரிக்க. தொட்டாற்றோழன்விட்டால்மாற்றான். A friend if persevered, in and a if neglected; spoken of an art. தொடப்படாது. I cannot give you; (lit.) Cannot touch. தொட்டுக்கண்ணிலேயொற்றிக்கொள்ள......To touch the feet of an idol or great person and then apply the fingers, to the eyes; as if saying, 'I worship your feet.' 2. [in contempet.] To be too obsequious, or aubmissive. ஆகாசத்தைத் தொட்டுக்கொண்டுநிற்கிறது. The top if trees, &c., touches the sky. தோஷந்தொட்டுநிற்கிறது. Fatal symptoms have appeared (as in cholera, &c., before death). நிலந்தொட்டுவைத்தார்கள். They rubbed the sand in which they had written (on their forehead, eyes, and breast) --Note. This is done in homage to Ganesa or Sarasvati. சனியன் தொட்டுக்கொண்டது. Seturn has begun to exert his malign influence. செருப்புத்தொட்டுக்கொண்டுநடக்க, inf. To walk with sandals. தொடுகழல், s. A pair of Indian slippers, as தொடுசெருப்பு. (p.) தொடுகழன்மறவர், s. (plu.) Heroes who wear ankle rings. 2. Huntsmen with sandals. (p.) தொடுகை, s. Touch, பரிசம். 2. v. noun. Digging, தோண்டுகை. தொடுகிலும், [prov.] An all, in any wise, &c., used with a negative verb, ஒருபொழுதும். தொடுசெருப்பு, s. As தொடுகழல். (c.) தொடுபதம், s. Boiled rice, சோறு. (சது.) தொடுவாய், s. [prov.] Confluence or junction of two rivers, or of a river with the sea, தண்ணீர்கள்சந்திக்குமிடம். தொடுவாள், s. [prov.] The horizon, அடிவானம்; [ex வான், the heavens.] தொடல், s. noun. Being close, சார் தல். 2. Touching, தீண்டல். 3. Digging, தோண்டல். 4. Catching, பிடித்தல். 5. Eating, புசித்தல். தொட்டடி, s. [properly தொட்டஅடி.] The beginning line--oppos. to விட்டடி. தொட்டப்பன், s. [prov.] A godfather. தொட்டாய்ச்சி, s. A godmother. (Chris. usage.) தொட்டல், v. noun. Digging, தோண் டல். தொட்டு, [verbal participle.] Touching. concerning, in reference to. (See சட்டி.) 2. Beginning with, from, since, used as பற்றி and குறித்து to express relation. (c.) அதைத்தொட்டு. Concerning that. இளமைதொட்டு. From youth up. அன்றுதொட்டு. From, or since, that day. 2. From former times. தொன்றுதொட்டு. From time immemoriat. (p.) தொட்டுக்கொண்டிருக்க--தொட்டுக் கொண்டுநிற்க, inf. To be in contact with, contiguous. தொட்டுக்கொண்டுபோக, inf. To pretend to carry a load, with others. 2. To touch the bier, as near ralations, in a funeral procession. 3. To bear a pall at a funeral. தொட்டுத்தலைமேல்வைக்க, inf. To tuch the feet of a great person; also to put the hands on the head, in token of veneration. தொட்டுத்தெளிக்க, inf. As தொட்டுத் தெறிக்க. 2. See தெளி, v. a. தொட்டுத்தெறிக்க, inf. To dip the finger in a liquid and sprinkle it on a new married couple, or an idol, as in ஆலாத்தி. See தெறி, v. தொட்டுப்பார்க்க. inf. To ascertain by the touch. 41)
மடங்கு
mṭngku (p. 339) கிறேன், மடங்கினேன், வேன், மடங்க, v. n. To become bent--as the arm or leg, வளைய. 2. To be shut, closed, folded --as a knife or table, as முடங்க. 3. To be inflected, deflected, refracted; to be folded, lapped, or bent out of place, கோண. 4. To bend or turn--as a road, or river, &c., சாய. 5. To turn about, to take a different course, மீள. 6. To be twisted or distorted--as a limb or the neck, முறுக. 7. To be battered, நெளிய. 8. To submit, yield, surrender, கீழ்ப்பட. 9. To be humbled, or tamed; to be reduced--as pride; to be broken--as the constitution, தாழ. 1. To be reduced in force as the wind or heat, தணிய. 11. To yield--as a disease, or poison--to medicines or incantations, உக்கிரமடங்க. 12. To be stopped, hindered, or quashed--as proceedings, &c., அமர. 13. To be turned off, diverted, thrown back--as weapons, தடைபட. 14. To be silenced by argument, sophistry or authority, to be checked, confuted, refuted, வாயடங்க. 15. To be lodged with one--as property on the death of the owner, அடைய. மடங்கலர், appel. n. [pl.] Foes, enemies; insubordinate persons, பகைவர். மடங்கலர்க்கசனியன்னான். He is like a thunder-bolt to his foes. (திருவி.) மடங்கிக்கிடத்தல், v. noun. Lying down. மடங்குபலன், s. Ripe corn. மடங்கல், v. noun. Bending, being bent; a crook, an angle, a corner, கோ ணல். 2. A returning, மீளல். 3. Curving or blunting the edge, &c., முடங்கல். 71)
