tūy (p. 254) adj. Clean, pure, chaste. This is commonly contracted, as துய்ய. (p.) தூயசேறு, s. Pure or sweet ointment. தூயது--தூய்து, s. That which is pure, clean, unsullied, immaculate, holy, சுத்தம். தூயவர், s. (plu.) Ascetics, recluses; (lit.) the pure, holy, virtuous, முனிவர். தூயவுடம்பினனாதல், v. noun. nālu (p. 275) --நால், adj. Four, நான்கு. 2. (fig.) Many, general, multifold, universal, all, பல, as நாலுவித்தையும்.--Note. In combination before, க, ச, த, ப, the ல், becomes ற் and before ஞ, ந, ம, it is changed to ன்; sometimes to லா as நாலாகாரியமும், divers matters, various affairs, concerns, circumstances. நாலுகல்வியும். As the splint of the banyan and வேல் trees gives strength to the teeth (by rubbing them), so நாலடியார், and குறள், give strength to the speech. நாலடி--நாலடியார், s. The title of a poetical book on morals having four lines to each verse, and four hundred verses; or the book which ascended, according to the legend, four feet against the stream of the river Veiga, at Madura. நாலாஞ்சடங்கு--நாலாநாட்சடங்கு, s. Bathing of the new married pair on the fourth day with the ends of their cloths tied together. நாலாமுறைக்காய்ச்சல், s. Quartan fever. நாலாம்வருணம், s. A class of verse embracing five varieties, compared to the four castes, and formerly appropriated to them respectively, and one of a mixed form. 1. வெண்பா, the best, or sacerdotal verse, composed of வெண்சீர் or இயற்சீர் feet, or of both arranged in the வெண்டளை mode. See வெண்பா. also Bab. Gram. p. 79. 2. அகவற்பா or ஆசிரியப்பா, the princely or royal verse formed chiefly of இயற்சீர், and the connexion called ஆசிரி யத்தளை.
