சன்னியாசம்
caṉṉiyācam (p. 174) s. Asceticism, abandonment of all worldly possessions and attachments, being the highest and last of the four brahmanical states. See ஆச் சிரமம். 2. Relinquishment, renunciation, துறவு; [ex சம், entirely, et நியாசம், casting away.] W. p. 891. SANNYASA. சன்னியாசந்தரிக்க, inf. To assume the state and garb of the சன்னியாசி. சன்னியாசமார்க்கம், s. The order of சன்னியாசி. 2. The perpetual bachelorhood of a person of good morals. சன்னியாசமுத்திரை, s. The distinctive marks of the சன்னியாசி, viz.: the staff, the waterpot, an unshaven beard, dishevelied locks, ochred clothes, &c. *சா, A compound letter composed of ச் and ஆ. 2. s. [ex Sa. Jya, to decay.] Death, mortality, மரணம். 3. Devil, பேய். 4. [in astron.] The chord of an arc; but commonly used for அர்த்தச்சா--the sine of an arc. 5. An equation of the centre--as மந்தச்சா. 6. The annual parallax, of a planet. See கற்கிச்சா and மகரச்சா. W. p. 355. JYA. சாக்காடு, s. Mortality, death, மரணம்; [ex காடு, a verbal affix.] சாக்காட்ட--சாக்காக்க, inf. [prov.] To wait on the dying, affording aid, performing appropriate ceremonies, &c. சாக்குருவி--சாகுருவி, s. A night-bird, sometimes a screech owl, whose hoot is supposed to portend death. சாக்குறி, s. Omens or presages of death. சாச்சடங்கு, s. Funeral ceremonies performed within the first week, especially, cooking and taking congy on the third day, and rice on the eighth.--Note. In some places food is sent by the relatives for three days. சாசங்காரம், s. The completing of an equation. சாபலம், s. [in astron.] Equation to the centre for any given time. சாபறை--சாப்பறை, s. A kind of drum for funerals. சாபிள்ளை, s. A still-born child. (c.) சாமுகுர்த்தம், s. [in astrol.] The முகு ர்த்தம் time, when several of the planets are in unfavorable situations. சாமூஞ்சி, s. A dismal, ghastly countenance, a death-like look. சாமூஞ்சிபட, inf. To be ghastly, as the face of a sick person. சாமேளம், s. A funeral-drum; the mode of beating a drum for a funeral. சாவறுதி, s. The point of death, the last extremity. 2. [prov.] Slightness, want of force and vigour; [ex அறுதி.] சன்னியாசம்பண்ண, inf. To renounce social or secular life for the wandering life of the ascetic. 2. To abandon earthly associations, worldliness, secularity, &c. சமுசாரசன்னியாசம், s. Celibacy. See under சமுசாரம். 3) *

pucai (p. 322) s. An arc of a circle in its first or third quadrant. 2. Two arcs of the ecliptic, ninety degrees each, reckoning from the first of Aries, and the first of Libra, முதலாமிரண்டாமூன்றாமேழாமெட்டாமொன் பதாமிராசி. புசாகோடி, s. An arrangement to reduce the mean anomaly to the equation table, which extends only to three degrees, and three-fourths. The reduction is as follows; 1. If the mean anomaly exceeds three signs subtract it from six signs: 2. If it exceeds six signs subtract from it six signs; 3. If it exceeds nine signs subtract it from twelve signs.--Note. The Zodiac being divided into four equal sections, the first and third are each called Pusei, and the second and fourth each kodi; Pusei only is to be used, hence the argument is frequently expressed by Pusei only. புசாந்தரசந்திரன், s. Moon's longitude corrected for errors arising from the use of the numbers, 331 and 248 in determining the longitude. புசாபலம், s. The result obtained from the above process, புசாகோடிகளைந்துமிஞ்சின தொகை. 27) *

pūcai (p. 329) s. Worship, homage to superiors, or adoration of the gods, with the proper ceremonies, ஆராதனை. W. p. 548. POOJA. 2. Food, eatables, given to religious mendicants, மயேசுரபூசை. 3. [ironically.] A good flogging, அடி.-- Note. பூசை is two-fold: 1. அந்தரியாகபூசை, internal or mental worship; 2. பகிரியாகபூசை, external worship. The four special seasons for the கிரியாபூசை, at the temples are பிராதக் காலம், at dawn; 2. மாத்தியானிகம், at midday; 3. சாயங்காலம், at sunset; 4. அர்த்த சாமம், at midnight. Two other seasons are observed in some temples, at nine in the morning, and nine at night. பூசாகாலம், s. Time of offering puja, ஆராதனைவேளை. பூசாசாரி, s. A priest, one who offers puja, at small fanes not Brahmanical; an exorcist. See பூசாரி. பூசாபலம்--பூசாபலன், s. Merit of puja. பூசாபலன்பண்ணினவன், appel. n. One who receives in the present life, the reward of merit in a former state. பூசாமுகம்--பூசைமுகம், s. Presence of the puja. பூசாவிதி, s. A directory for puja. பூசைகாண, inf. To attend on or be present at, the performance of puja. பூசைகொடுக்க, inf. To give eatables to religious mendicants. 2. [in irony.] To give a good flogging. பூசைத்திரவியம், s. Materials for puja. பூசைநைவேத்தியம், s. puja and oblations. பூசைபண்ண, inf. To perform puja. பூசைபுனர்சமஸ்காரம், s. A repetition of a ritual ceremony. பூசைபோட, inf. To offer puja to the cruel gods or goddesses. 2. To give one a flogging. 3. To consume food, &c. பூசைப்பரிசாரகன், s. An assistant to the officiating priest. பூசைப்பெட்டி, s. A basket for puja utensils. பூசைமணி, s. A hand bell, rung during the performance of puja. பூசைமேடை--பூசைக்குறடு, s. A raised place for the idol when puja is performed. பூசைவேளை, s.
