சீவன்
cīvaṉ (p. 191) s. Life, vitality, the vital principle, உயிர். 2. The sentient soul; according to the Vedantic system, the emanation of the deity incorporated with the body, giving it life, motion and sensation; hence also called, சீவாத்துமா. It is opposed to the abstract state of the soul, or as identified with deity, பரமாத்துமா.--Note. According to the Agamas, the soul is eternal, but destined to obsorption in the deity, which is the ultimate object in view in furnishing it with bodies, and with various means for its illumination. 3. A living being, an animal, சீவசெந்து. 4. A name of Jupiter, வியாழம். 5. A magnet, காந்தம். (R.) 6. (fig.) Energy, spirit, life, animation, முயற்சி--used in the negative form. W. p. 351. JEEVA. சீவனும்பிராணனுமாயிருக்கிறார்கள். They are closely united, (lit.) as the life and the vital airs. சீவன்வந்தது. Life is restored--spoken of one whose fears are banished. நடக்கச்சீவனில்லை. To save one from ruin, by giving the means of subsistence. 5. To inspire one with courage, தைரியப்ப டுத்த. சீவனைமாய்த்துக்கொள்ள, inf. To commit suicide, to lay violent hands on one's self. சீவனைவாங்க, inf. To take away life. 2. (fig.) To put one to great hardships. சீவனோடிருக்க, inf. To be alive, to live. சீவனோடுகூடியகாரியம், s. [prov.] (in divination.) A question, or matter connected with life, or with a living being. 2. A thing of vital importance. கிழட்டுச்சீவன்--கிழச்சீவன், s. An old person, man or woman. சீவன்முத்தன், s. (in Agama phil.) The soul freed from பாசம் before the death of the body, and no longer subject to births. (சிவ. போ.) 31)

cīvam (p. 191) s. Life, existence, சீவன். 2. Individuated spirit--as distinguished from the deity; though according to the Vedantic system, they are identical. 3. The soul of the universe, giving life, motion and energy to all beings, and things. The collective or universal, பரமாத் துமா. 4. Arc of a circle, also used for sine, அர்த்தச்சா. W. p. 351. JEEVA.--Note. This word is rarely found except in combination. சீவகளை, s. Animation, energy, cheerfulness, உயிர்ப்பு. 2. A very pretty air in melody, இராகக்காட்சி. (Colloq.) சீவகாருண்ணியம்--சீவதயை, s. Benevolence to living creatures human or brute. சீவகாருண்ணியன், s. One kind, merciful, gracious, &c., to living creatures. சீவகாருண்ணியதயாபரன். The kind, merciful, gracious, benevolent God. சீவகாலம்--சீவநாள், s. Life time. சீவகோடிகள், s. Myriads of living creatures. சீவசங்கட்டம், s. The struggle preceding the last breathing. See சங்கட்டம். சீவசாட்சி--சீவசாட்சிசைதன்னியம், s. The intelligent soul, or universal intellect, according to the Vedantic system, as witness of all things, and identified with the Supreme Being, or Brahm. சீவசுவாசம், s. The breath of life. சீவசெந்து, s. Living beings. சீவதருமம்--சீவபுண்ணியம், s. Meritorious deeds of men to living creatures as distinguished from சிவதருமம் or சிவ புண்ணியம், divine benevolence. சீவதாதா, s. A patron, a generous, liberal person. (c.) சீவதாரு, s. See சீவவிருட்சம். சீவதாது, s. One of the three pulses supposed to be felt in the wrist, named after the three humors. See நாடி. சீவதிசை, s. Influence of the planets calculated by the sign rising at the time of birth. 2. (fig.) Life time. சீவதேகம், s. Body, case, or receptacle of the soul in its different states of existence; being of three kinds. See சரீரத்தி ரயம். சீவத்துவம், s. That which belongs to life. சீவநாடி, s. The vital artery. See சீ வனி. சீவநாயகன், s. God, as the author or lord of life. சீவபிராணி--சீவப்பிராணி, s. A living being. (Pleonastic.) சீவபேதம், s. Varieties of living beings. எறும்புகடையானை தலையெண்பத்து நான்குநூறாயி ரஞ்சீவபேதம். From the ant to the elephant, there are 8,4, species of living creatures. சீவநாசம், s. Something detrimental to life. சீவந்தன், s. [loc.] One who is alive. சீவரட்சை, s. Preservation of life--as by the divine being, or by a benevolent person in famine, &c. 2. Final salvation, liberation from births. சீவரத்தினம், s. A living gem worn by Vishnu on his breast. 2. The gem in the head of the fabulous five headed cobra, being essential to its life. 3. A fabulous gem in the world of Indra, and elsewhere, said to give whatever is asked. சீவராசிகள், s. See சீவகோடிகள். சீவவதை, s. Taking away one's life. சீவவிருட்சம், s. [in Christ. usage.] The tree of life. சீவலயம், s. Death. See இலயம். சீவாத்துமா--சீவான்மா, s. A living soul. See ஆத்துமா. சீவாக்கினி, s. Animal heat. (R.) சீவாந்தம், s. One's last end, exit, departure from life; [ex அந்தம்.] சீவோபகாரம், s. Benefit to men or other creatures; [ex உபகாரம்.] சீவோற்பத்தி, s. Animation of the f&oe;tus in the womb. See உற்பத்தி. 21) *
