அக்கினி
akkiṉi (p. 4) s. Fire, தீ. 2. The god of fire and regent of the south-east, அக்கி னிபகவான். (See திக்குபாலகர்.) 3. (M. Dic.) The plant செங்கொடிவேலி. There are reckoned different kinds of அக்கினி, (a.) ஆயுரு வேதாக்கினி, of three kinds, for preparing medicines, as கமலாக்கினி, காடாக்கினி, தீபாக் கினி, which see. (b) Three other kinds called வேதாக்கினி for sacrificial purposes, as, காருகபத்தியம், தக்கணாக்கினியம், ஆகவனீயம். See தீ. (c.) The fire which will consume the world, காலாக்கினி. Wils. p. 6. AGNI. அக்கினிகணம், s. The same as தீக்கணம், an inauspicious measure. See கணம். (p.) அக்கினிகர்ப்பம், s. A spark. 2. A crystal with fabulous qualities. 3. A decayed cuttle-fish bone, Os sepi&ae;, கட னுரை. அக்கினிகலை, s. Breath coming from the nostrils, in சரசாத்திரம். அக்கினிகோத்திரம், s. One of the twenty-one யாகம். 2. One of the princely races. அக்கினிக்கட்டு, s. Restraining the power of fire by magic. அக்கினிக்கண்ணன், s. A fiery man, one having a terrible countenance. அக்கினிசன்மன், s. One born of fire, Skanda. See அக்கினிபூ. அக்கினிசாந்தி, s. [in astrology.] Offerings to fire; this is done with ghee, plantains, cakes, &c., after repeating an incantation one hundred and eight times to avert evil from அக்கினிதேவன். These offerings are made particularly at the time of marriage and of doing penance. அக்கினிசாலம், s. Tricks or artifices made by the agency of fire. அக்கினிச்சிலம், s. A plant, Gloriosa superba, L., கார்த்திகைக்கிழங்கு. அக்கினிச்சேர்வை, s. [prov.] A blister-plaster. அக்கினிட்டோமம்--அக்கினிஷ் டோமம், s. One of the twenty-one யாகம். அக்கினித்தம்பம்--அக்கினிஸ்தம்பம், s. A pillar of fire. 2. Stopping the power of fire by magic. 3. One of the sixty-four கலைஞானம். அக்கினித்தம்பன், s. Siva as a column of fire. See தம்பம். அக்கினித்திரயம், s. The aggregate of the three fires maintained by the Brahmin householder, the Garhapatya, காருகபத்தியம், Dakshanagniyam, தட்சணாக் கினியம், and Ahavaneya, ஆகவனியம். See தீ. அக்கினித்திராவகம், s. Fire-water --such as nitric acid, &c. அக்கினிநாள்--அக்கினிநட்சத்திரம், s. [astrol.] An inauspicious nakshatra or day. There are three in a year, viz., when the sun is in the last quarter of the second nakshatra, பரணி, when in the 3d nakshatra, கார்த்திகை, and when in the 1st quarter of the 4th nakshatra, உரோகணி. அக்கினிபஞ்சகம், s. Danger of fire as an astrological result of the aggregate of five items. அக்கினிபயம், s. [in calendars.] Danger or fear of fire. அக்கினிப்பிரவேசம், s. Entering into or passing through fire, as a religious act. அக்கினிப்பிழம்பு, s. A body or flame of fire. அக்கினிப்பிளப்பு, s. A volcano, volcanic eruption. அக்கினிமண்டலம், s. The seat of fire in the system--the abdomen. அக்கினிமந்தம், s. Indigestion. அக்கினிமலை, s. A volcanic mountain. அக்கினிமிதிக்க, inf. To tread on fire, one of the thirty-two kinds of selftorture. அக்கினிமூலை, s. The south-east region. அக்கினியாதேயம், s. One of the twenty-one யாகம், sacrifices. அக்கினியாஸ்திரம், s. A kind of arrow, ஓரத்திரம், (c.) அக்கினியோகம், s. An inauspicious conjunction of the days of the week with the tithi திதி, as follows: 1. When the 5th or 11th tithi, Lunar day (திதி) occurs on Monday. 2. When the 5th tithi occurs on Wednesday. 3. When the 6th or 9th occurs on Thursday. 4. When the 8th or 1th occurs on Friday. 5. angkam (p. 5) s. A limb, member, part or organ of the body, அவயவம். 2. Body, உடல். 3. Mark, sign, அடையாளம். 4. Skeleton, எலும்புக்கூடு. 5. Symmetry, well formed human or other shape as of letters, &c., as பாவனை. 6. (p.) A division of learning comprehending such science as is considered dependent on the Vedas; hence called வே தாங்கம், சாங்கம், உபாங்கம் and பிரத்தியாங்கம். 7. A country, ஓர்தேயம். 8. The signs of the stars, &c., at one's birth. அங்கசாதனம்பிடித்தல். Finding out any thing by signs or circumstances fixing suspicion upon one. அங்கசேட்டை--அங்கசேஷ்டை, s. Distortion of the countenance from habit, grimace; ex சேஷ்டை, gesture. அங்கநியாசம், s. A mental appropriation or the assignment of various parts of the body to tutelary divinities, by touching the several parts, and applying sacred ashes, accompanied with incantations, according to the usual mode of Hindu worship; ex. நியாஸ, arrangement. (p.) அங்கபடி--அங்கவடி, s. Stirrup, குதிரையங்கபடி. (c.) அங்கப்பிரதக்கணம்--அங்கப்பிரதட் சிணம், s. A mode of worship by rolling round a temple after a car, &c., turning to the right, in performance of a vow, &c.; (c.) ex பிர, before, et தட்சிணம், right. அங்கப்பிராயச்சித்தம், s. Expiation for bodily impurity, especially the oblation offered by the heir at the first funeral obsequies to remove the impurity contracted during the period of mourning. (c.) அங்கமாலை, s. A பிரபந்தம் or poem describing the principal members of the body, such as the eye, face, breasts, &c., in the female, and shoulders, arms, breast, &c., in the male. The order of description must be from the feet to the hair of the head, or from the head to the feet. (p.) அங்கயோகம், s. The eight qualities of a Yogi. See யோகம். (p.) அங்கரக்கா, s. [local] அங்கரட்சா. A jacket, மெய்ச்சட்டை. அங்கரட்சிணி, s. A coat of mail. (p.) அங்கராகம், s. Anointing the body with perfumes, sacred ashes, sandal, &c., ex ராகம், anointing. (p.) அங்கர், s. āṉantam (p. 44) s. Great joy, bliss, supreme delight, happiness, பேரின்பம்; [ex ஆ, et நதி, to be or make happy.] Wils. p. 112. ANANDA. ஆனந்தக்களிப்பு, s. Exceeding great joy, superior enjoyment. 2. A devotional poem composed by yogis. ஆனந்தநித்திரை, s. Abstract meditation in the stat of ஞானம், on the deity, யோகநித்திரை. ஆனந்தபயிரவி, s. The name of one of the thirty-two tunes, ஓரிராகம். (p.). ஆனந்தபரவசம், s. Extacy of joy, especially in divine things. (p.) ஆனந்தபாட்பம்--ஆனந்தபாஷ்பம், s. Tears of joy, weeping from excessive joy, ஆனந்தக்கண்ணீர். (p.) ஆனந்தமயகோசம், s. High mettle, wantonness, the state of being high-fed, voluptuousness, இரத்தபுஷ்டி. 2. (fig.) Pride, arrogance, &c., கருவம். இரத்தக்கோமாரி, s. A disease of cows producing a discharge of blood, மாட்டுக்குவருமோர்நோய். இரத்தங்கக்க, inf. To raise or eject blood whether from disease or injury. இரத்தங்கன்ற, inf. To turn black and hard--as a bruise or contusion. இரத்தங்குத்திவாங்க--இரத்தமெடு க்க, இரத்தம்வாங்க, inf. To bleed, to take blood from. இரத்தங்குபீரிட--இரத்தம்பீரிட, inf. To kill. இரத்தஞ்சுண்ட, inf. To have the blood dried--as in emaciation. 2. To turn pale by having the feelings wounded or mortified. 3. To be reduced in flesh by hunger, fasting, &c., be emaciated. இரத்தத்துடிப்பு, v. noun. Thrilling of the blood in seeing or hearing a near relation under suffering, also superstitiously supposed to take place on such an event, though not seen or heard of. இரத்தத்தொடர்வு, s. kṇ (p. 89) s. The eye, விழி. 2. A hollow mark or spot, குழி. 3. A roundish hole, orifice, crevice, cavity, aperture, துவாரம். 4. A knot or point in a tree, கணு. 5. (p.) A bamboo, மூங்கில். 6. Place, location, situation, இடம். 7. A form of the locative case--that employed in grammatical examples, &c., ஏழனுருபு. 8. Kindness, benignity, graciousness, protection, கண்ணோட் டம். 9. Greatness, பெருமை. கண்கண்டதுகைசெய்யும். What the eye has seen the hand may do; i. e. we learn by observation. கண்காணநடந்தசெய்தி. Any event that happened before one's eyes. கண்ணிலேகாணப்படாது. I hate the very sight of him. 2. Even the sight of it is injurious; i. e. prejudicial--spoken where mutual animosity exists--as in the kite and snake, &c. 3. (p.) It will not appear to the eye. கண்ணிலேகுத்துகிறதோ. Does it hurt your eyes? why do you envy me, &c. கண்ணுக்கின்பமானபொருள். That which is delectable to the eye. கண்ணுக்குக்கண்ணானவன். There is no wound to be seen, nor any visible symptoms of disease; the sickness, if real, is internal. கண்ணுக்குள்ளேநிற்கின்றது. It is fixed in my eyes, imagination, &c.-- as a departed friend, a thing lost, &c. இராசாவுக்குக்கண்மந்திரி. A counsellor is the eye of the king. அண்டைவீட்டுச்சண்டைகண்ணுக்குக்குளிர்ச்சி.... (p.) கட்புலன், s. The sense of sight, நேத்திரேந்திரியம். ஓர்கட்பறை, s. A tambourine. கண்கடை, s. [in combination.] Corner of the eye. கண்கடைதெரியாதவன், s. One elated and blind through prosperity. கண்கடைதெரியாமற்பரிமாறுகிறான். He acts in disrespect of superiors through elation, &c. 2. He acts with recklessness, wantonness, waste of property, &c. கண்கட்ட, inf. To blind the eyes by magic. 2. To cover the eyes, to blindfold. கண்கட்டி, s. A sty on the eye. கண்கட்டு, s. Blind-folding, blindman's-buff. கண்கட்டுகாசம், s. A species of cataract. கண்கட்டுவித்தை, s. The art of legerdemain or blinding by magic, ஓர் காருடவித்தை. 2. The tricks played by conjurers, தந்திரவித்தை. கண்கலங்க, inf. To weep--as the eyes from dust, a trifling hurt. 2. To be distressed. கண்கழுவ, inf. [prov.] To pour water on plants, growing corn, &c., especially the first time. கண்கழுவுதண்ணீர், s. [prov.] Water conducted in channels for watering young plants, newly sown seed, &c. கண்காசம், s. A disease of the eye, cataract. கண்காட்சி, s. Vision, sight, பார் வை. 2. A gratifying or pleasant sight, a pageant, spectacle, show, கண்ணுக்குச்சிற ப்பு. 3. A prodigy, அதிசயம். 4. [ironically.] A disgusting ungainly sight, துக் கக்காட்சி. கண்காணம், s. Oversight, inspection, watch, மேல்விசாரிப்பு. கண்காணக்காரன்--கண்காணச்சே வகன், s. A watchman. கண்காணஞ்செலுத்த--கண்காணம் பண்ண, inf. To superintend, watch. கண்காணம்வைக்க, inf. To appoint an inspector, to set a watch. கண்காணி, s. An inspector, an overseer, a supervisor, an agent, மேல்வி சாரிப்புக்காரன். 2. One who looks after the subordinates in a government office, சிரே ஷ்டாதிகாரி. 3. [In Christ. usage.] A bishop, அத்தியட்சர். கண்காணிக்க, inf. To oversee, supervise, superintend, மேல்விசாரணைசெய் ய. கண்காணிப்பு, v. noun. Oversight, supervision. கண்காந்தல், v. noun. The hot sensation of the eyes caused by neglecting to bathe, by disease, &c., கண் ணெரிவு. கண்காரர், s. Persons who sit before a conjurer, looking at the magical paint without winking, and to whom the discoveries are made, அஞ்ச னம்பார்ப்போர். கண்குத்திபாம்பு, s. A bright green snake that is said to strike at the eye, the eye-snake; a whip-snake. கண்குவளை, s. The socket of the eye, கட்குழி. கண்குழிதல், v. noun. Sinking of the eyes by disease, emaciation, &c. கண்குளிரப்பார்க்க, inf. To refresh the eyes by viewing a pleasing object--as a dear child, &c., to feast the eyes. கண்குளிர்ச்சி, v. noun. Refreshing, gratifying, pleasing to the sight. கண்குறிப்பு, s. A significant expression of the eye, கண்சமிக்கை. கண்கூச, inf. To see obscurely from the eyes being dazzled. 2. To be weak-sighted, tender-eyed. கண்கூடு, s. Socket of the eye, கண்குவளை. 2. A thing in sight, ocular demonstration, பிரத்தியட்சம். கண்கூடாய், adv. Evidently, demonstrably. கண்கூர்மை, s. Sharpness of sight. கண்கூலி, s. A present for finding a thing lost. கண்கெட, inf. To be struck blind. 2. adv. In spite of one's own sight, to the destruction of one's own eyes, &c. கண்கெடச்செய்ய, inf. To do what one knows to be wrong--as presenting defiled food to an idol, friend, &c. கண்கெடப்பேச, inf. To falsify the evidence of one's own eyes in delivering testimony, &c. கண்கெட்டதெய்வம், s. The blind deity--a profane and familiar phrase among the vulgar used in seasons of distress. கண்கொள்ளாக்காட்சி, s. A great or wonderful object, a thing over-powering to the sight, அதிசயக்காட்சி. கண்சமிக்கை, s. A wink with the eyes. கண்சாடை, s. A winking at, taking faint notice of, &c. கண்சாய்ப்பு, s. A side-look in displeasure. 2. Connivance. 3. Partiality, favor shown by a wink, &c. கண்சாய்ப்பாய்ப்பார்க்க, inf. To look jealously, to have an evil eye. கண்சாய்ப்பாயிருக்க, inf. To overlook, be partial in judgment, to connive. கண்சிமிட்ட, inf. To make a signal with the eye. 2. To wink, to twinkle through weakness of eyes. கண்சிமிட்டு, s. A signal of the eye. கண்சுருட்ட, inf. To entice one by uncommon beauty, lustre, &c., to cantivate, to fascinate. கண்செருகல்--கண்சொருகல், v. noun. Rolling up of the eyes--as in swoons, fits, death-bed, and sometimes in sleep. கண்ணஞ்ச, inf. To fear, dread, as excited by the sight of a superior, lightning, &c. கண்ணஞ்சனம், s. Collyrium, the ointment used to blacken the eye-lashes. 2. Blue vitriol. கண்ணடைக்க, inf. To choke, stop up--as the orifice of a spring, a nipple, துவாரமடைக்க. கண்ணடைய, inf. To become choked or stopped up--as a hole, &c., தூவாரமடைபட. 2. [prov.] To cease shooting--as the head or heart of a plant, பயிரின்குருத்துக்கண்ணடைய. இடியப்பக்குழல்கண்ணடைந்துபோயிற்று. The இடியப்ப mould is stopped up. கண்ணடைந்தபால், s. Milk injured by being kept too long. கண்ணப்பன், s. One of the sixtythree devotees of Siva who scooped out his own eye and consecrated it to that deity--also called திண்ணன். கண்ணயர்ந்துபோதல், v. noun. [impr. கண்ணசந்துபொதல்.] Being heavy or drowsy. கண்ணரிப்பு, v. noun. A kind of itching disease in the eye, கண்ணில்வரு மோர்நோய். கண்ணருள், s. Favor. கண்ணழற்சி, v. noun. Burning of the eyes, கண்ணெரிச்சல். 2. (fig.) Envy, பொறாமை. கண்ணழற்சிப்பட, inf. To look with envious eye, to envy. கண்ணறை, s. Breadth, width, அ கலம். 2. A standing looking glass, a stationary mirror. கண்ணாமண்டை, s. [prop. கண்மண் டை.] s. The skull near the eyes. கண்ணாம்பூச்சி, s. [com.] Covering the eyes with the hands or doubling the upper eyelid over the eyeball inside out, and running round as children in play, ஓர்விளையாட்டு. 2. Giddiness, dizziness, கண்மயக்கம். கண்ணாம்பூச்சியாட, inf. To run about in play with the eyes covered, or with the eyelid doubled over. கண்ணாம்பொத்தி, s. [prop. கண் பொத்தி.] A game, children's play, hideand-seek. கண்பொத்திவிளையாட, inf. To play at hide-and-seek. கண்ணாயிரம், s. The argus of the Hindus. கண்ணாயிருக்க, inf. To be watchful, vigilant, attentive, looking steadfastly, நோக்கமாயிருக்க. கண்ணுக்குக்கண்ணாயிருக்கிறான். He is as dear or precious as one's eyes. கண்ணாரக்காண, inf. To see plainly, to see with one's own eyes, பிரத்தியட் சமாகக்காண. கண்ணிடுக்குதல், v. noun. Being sleepy, drowsy. கண்ணிதழ்--கண்ணிமை, s. Eyelid, கண்ணினதிமை. 2. A wink of the eye, கண்ணிமைப்பு. To apply a fomentation, a flower, &c., to the eye. கண்ணீர், s. Tears. ஏழைஅழுதகண்ணீர்கூரியவாளுக்கொக்கும். The tears of the poor are like a sharp sword. கண்ணீராக்கி, s. Crude camphor, பச்சைக்கருப்பூரம். கண்ணீருகுக்க--கண்ணீர்சொரிய --கண்ணீர்வடிக்க--கண்ணீர்விட, inf. To shed tears, கண்ணீர்சிந்த. கண்ணீர்ததும்ப--தளம்ப, inf. Sleep, a nap, நித் திரை. கண்ணுறங்க, inf. To sleep, நித்தி ரைசெய்ய. கண்ணுறுத்த, inf. To smart as the eyes, from any foreign substance--as dust, ophthalmia, &c., கண்ணிலுறுத்த. என்கண்ணையுறுத்துகின்றது. Something hurts my eye. 2. My eye smarts from ophthalmia. கண்ணூறு--கண்ணேறு, s. The blight of the eyes, an unlucky look supposed to cause sickness, &c., திட்டி தோஷம். விண்ணேறுதப்பினாலுங்கண்ணேறுதப்பாது. One may escape a thunderbolt, but to escape an evil eye is impossible. மதன்கண்ணேறெய்தலுங்கழிந்ததோ. (Has the waist) become so attenuated through the influence of kama's eyes? கண்ணூறுகழிக்க, inf. To dispel the blight of an evil eye by prescribed ceremonies. கண்ணூறுபட, inf. To suffer or experience the ill effects of evil eyes. கண்ணெச்சில், s. Fascinating, bewitching, blighting, &c.--as by a glance, and otherwise, as in food looked on with an envious eye, &c., கண்ணூறு. கருப்புரவிளக்கமேந்திக்கண்ணெச்சில்கழித்திட் டாரே. They waved the lighted camphor and removed the blight of the eye. (நைட.) கண்ணெரிவு, v. noun. Smarting of the eyes from want of sleep or through intemperance. கண்ணெறிய, inf. To glance, க ண்ணாற்பார்க்க. 2. To cast libidinous glances, to look wistfully, விருப்பமாகப்பார்க்க. கண்ணேணி, s. A bamboo ladder, மூங்கிலேணி. கண்ணேறிட்டுப்பார்க்க, inf. To pluck out the eye. கண்ணைமூடிக்கொண்டிருக்க--கண் மூடிக்கொண்டிருக்க inf. To connive at. 2. To be indifferent about, to be careless. என்னைப்பாராமற்கண்மூடிக்கொண்டார். To look intently, gaze, to eye, see, look upon, பார்க்க. கண்ணோக்கு, v. noun. Gaze, glance, கண்பார்வை. கண்ணோட, inf. To run out--as the sight on an object of desire, to look at with desire, cast wistful or lustful glances, விருப்பமாகப்பார்க்க. 2. To watch, look after, inspect, superintend, பார்வை யிட. 3. To examine cursorily--as a book, writing, &c., மேலெழுச்சியாய்ப்பார்க்க. 4. To be kind, benignant, gracious, to treat kindly, be indulgent, தயவாயிருக்க. 5. To be partial, to have the mind biased toward one, to yield to feelings of compassion, தாட்சிணியஞ்செய்ய.--Note. All the meanings have reference to sight as prompting to passion and action. உடையவன்கண்ணோடாப்பயிர், s. Growing corn not looked after by the owner. கண்ணோட்டம், s. A glance, a look, the scope of the sight, கடைக்கண்பா ர்வை. 2. Regard to persons, either in a good or bad sense, kindness as prompted at the moment, partiality, favoritism, glow of kind feelings toward a friend, reluctance to deny his request, &c., கடாட்சம். 3. Civility, complaisance, regard, மரியாதை. 4. Discerning by the eye, close examination, scrutiny, பார்வை யிடுகை. இவனவனிடத்திற்கண்ணோட்டம்வைத்தான். He was very kind to him. கண்திட்டம்--கண்மதிப்பு, s. Guess by the eye, or opinion from sight. கண்திட்டி--கண்திஷ்டி--கண்தீமை, s. The blight of the eye, திட்டிதோஷம். கண்திட்டிகழிக்க, inf. [prov.] A small jackfruit or a small bunch of palmyra or other fruit attached to a larger one. கண்புகைச்சல், v. noun. A disease of the eye. ஓர்நோய். 2. An ornament for the eyes of an idol, a gold or silver ornament to be placed over the eye of an idol and devoted to the temple, விக்கிரகங்க ட்கணியும்விழிமலர். கண்மறிக்காட்டல், v. noun. [prov.] Checking, forbidding, frowning on, or inviting by a signal of the eye. கண்மாயம், s. Ocular deception, illusion, sudden appearance and disappearance--as of a phantom, a thing stolen, &c., கண்ணுக்குத்தோன்றிமறைகை. கண்மின்ன, inf. To flash--as the eyes on fainting or by a blow. கண்மின்னியார்த்தல், v. noun. Growing dim as the eyes when one is dizzy. கண்முகிழ்க்க--கண்மூட, inf. To shut the eyes, cover the eyes, to hoodwink, கண்ணிமைசேர்க்க. 2. To become drowsy, go to sleep, தூங்க. 3. To die, சாவ. 4. A large sacrificial pot filled with water, used on sacred occasions; also, a sacred pot painted with mystic diagrams, adorned with leaves, flowers, &c., and sometimes carried in procession, காகம். 3. குரு
kuru (p. 125) s. A guru, a spiritual teacher, a priest, ஆசான்.--Note. According to the shastras, the guru is to be regarded by the disciple as the personification of the deity; and to be worshipped with divine honors. In his presence, the disciple is exonerated from his accustomed rites, and devotions, and addresses him by appellatives, used in addressing the deity of his sect. 2. the planet Jupiter, regarded as the guru or priest of Swerga, &c., வியாழன். 3. Heaviness, weight, பாரம். 4. Consequence, importance, moment, காத்திரம். 5. Greatness, eminence, excellence, exaltedness, பெருமை. 6. [in music.] The quantity of a long vowel, or a long note. இருமாத்திரை. 7. [in gram.] A long vowel, நெடில். 8. [in the Agamas.] The deity Siva--as illuminator of souls, சி வன். 9. Divinity, திவ்வியம். In the last three senses, the word Guru has its technical meanings, derived however from its literal meaning of precepter and director. 14. Brilliancy, lustre, effulgence, பிரகா சம். Wils. p. 31. GHRU. 15. The name of one of the nine sons of அங்கீதிரன், who was the first monarch of Jambu Dwipa, அங்கீதிரன்புதல்வரில் ஒருவன். (காந்.) 16. One of the nine division or var'shas of Jambu Dwipa which fell to the share of the prince Kuru, being the most northern portion beyond the Sringa range of mountains, குருவருடம். 17. The name of a prince of the lunar race, famous in the Bharata, from whom the family was called குருகுலம் and the descendants, கௌரவர்; குரு குலவம்சத்து முதல்அரசன். (பார.) 18. A country near Delhi, over which Kuru of the lunar race was once a sovereign, குருபூமி. (பார.) 19. prickly heat, வேர்க்குரு; Wils. p. 232. KURU. 2. Pustule, blister; hence, any eruptive disease--as the small-pox, chicken-pox, measles, &c., குருவியாதி. குருஆரால்மூக்குப்போலிருக்கின்றது. The smallpox is like the nose of a lamprey. குருநாதன், s. The name of Skanda-as having explained to his father Siva the mystic word ஓம். 2. Siva. 3. A guru--as the lord of the disciple. குருபரன்--குருமூர்த்தி, s. The deity in human form, appearing for the instruction of a devoted person of the சக லர், especially spoken of Siva. குருகடாட்சம், s. The gracious or benign look of the guru on his disciple, dispelling sin, imparting spiritual wisdom, and preparing the soul for emancipation. குருகற்பனை, s. Precept or the guru-deemed sacred. குருசந்தானம், s. A regular succession of priests, or gurus. குருசம்பாவனை, s. Blessing or favor of the guru. 2. Worship or honor due to the guru. குருசம்பிரதாயம், s. Oral instruction in the secret meaning of the mantras, &c., handed down from generation to generation, in the line of the guru, and by him communicated confidentially to his advanced disciples. குருசன்னிதானம், s. The presence of the guru. குருசேடம், s. Remains of a guru's food--considered sacred, குருப்பிரசாதம். குருசேவை, s. Civilities, duties, worship, &c., paid to a guru, குருஉபசரணை. குருதக்கணை--குருதட்சிணை, s. Fees or presents to the guru, commonly in money, given with due homage, &c. குருதீட்சை--குருதீக்கை, s. The initiation of a disciple by a guru to certain privileges of his religion, or afterwards to a more advanced degree, குரூபதேசம். குருத்திரவியம், s. Property or treasure of the guru. குருத்துரோகம், s. Treachery towards a guru, or injury of one. குருநிந்தை, s. Indignity to the priest. குருத்துவம், s. Priesthood, or the dignity, power, honor, &c., of a guru, குருத்தன்மை. 2. Honor, respectability, கனம். Wils. p. 293. GURUTVA. குருபத்தி--குருவிசுவாசம், s. Dutiful love, piety, &c., towards the guru, குருவி னிடத்திலன்பு. குருபத்தினி--குருபன்னி, s. The wife of a guru, குருவின்மனைவி. குருபாரம்பரியம், s. Ancestral priesthood in regular succession; the lineage or genealogy of a guru,குருபாரம்பரை. குருபீடம், s. The dignified seat, or office of a guru, குருஸ்தானம். குருபுத்திரன், s. A son of a guru, குரு புதல்வன். 2. An obedient disciple, உண் மையானசீஷன். குருபூசை, s. Pujah or worship, offered to a guru, by an advanced disciple competent to do it, குருவுக்குச்செய்யுமாராதனை. 2. Food, &c., given to Brahmans, religious mendicants, &c., by the disciples of a deceased guru, in rememberence of him as deifled, இறந்துபோனகுருவைக்குறித்துச்செய் யும்பூசை. குருபோதனை, s. The instruction of the guru. குருப்பட்டம், s. The office, authority of dignity of a guru, குருத்துவம். குருப்பட்டம்பெற, inf. To receive priesty authority, ordination, &c. குருப்பட்டாபிஷேகம், s. The ordination of a guru. குருப்பிரசாதம், s. The favor, grace, or blessing of the guru; gift from the guru, குருவருள். 2. Remains of a guru's food, குருவுண்டசேஷம். குருமரியாதை, s. Reverence for the guru. குருமுகமாய்க்கேட்க--குருமுன்னிலை யாயறிய--குருவாக்கியமாய்க்கேட்க inf. To learn viva voce, so as to attain certainty in doubtful matters. குருமுறை, s. A guru's teaching, குரு சொல்லியமுறை. குருமுன்னிலையாய், In the presence of the guru, குருவின்முன்னிடம். 2. By means or favor of the guru, குருமூலம். குருமை, s. Dignity, superiority, பெ ருமை. குருமூர்த்தம், s. The manifestation of a deity as a guru for the instruction of disciples; especially spoken of Siva, குரு வடிவம். குருலிங்கசங்கமம், s. An aggregate of the spiritual guru--Siva under the phallic emblem--and the devotees of Siva, குருவுஞ் சிவமுந் திருக்கூட்டமும். குருமொழி--குருவசனம்--குருவாக்கியம் --குருவாக்கு, s. The precepts, instructions, &c., of a guru. குருவுக்குநாமம்வைக்கிறவன், s. One who out-schemes, and out-wits, his guru, teacher or superior. குருவுபதேசம்--குரூபதேசம்,s. The initiation of a disciple by the guru. சற்குரு, s. A divine guru, the heavenly teacher. குருசந்திரயோகம், s. The conjunction of Jupiter and the moon in the same sign--considered auspicious. குருசாரபலம், s. [in astrol.] Good and ill results, derived from the progress of the planet Jupiter through the signs, வியாழபலன். குருவாரம், s. Thursday, வியாழக்கிழ மை. குருக்கொடுக்க, inf. [prov.] To instigate, ஏவிவிட. 2. To persuade, incite, commonly to a bad action, கொடுமைசெய் யத்தூண்ட. 3. To assume to teach, give advice &c., in the presence of the learned, புத்திசொல்ல. குருக்கொள்ள, inf. To assume to teach, give advice, &c., above one's age. இராசநீதி குருக்கொண்டு முதிர்ந்தனையோ. Do you take upon you to teach jurisprudence? (பார.) குருதுரியம், s. [in the Agamas.] The highest degree in the சுத்தம் state of souls; that next to absorption. குருபதம், s. The bliss of the deity, சதானந்தம். 2. Liberation from births, and absorptiom in the deity, பிறவிநீக்கம். குருமுடிக்க, inf. To combine ingredients with medicines to make them active, or to neutralize poisonous qualities, &c., இரசவாதகுருமுடிக்க. குருகுலம், s. The Kuru dynasty; the patronymic is commonly applied to the sons and descendants of Dhrutarashtra, குருவமிசம். குருகுலத்தரசர்--குருகுலவேந்தர், s. Kings of the Kuru race. குருநிலம், s. The territory of the king Kuru. குருக்கேத்திரம்--குருக்ஷேத்திரம், s. The country near Delhi, the scene of the great battle between the Kurus and Pándavas, described in the Bharata. Wils. p. 242.
