(See நாடி.) 14. (misused for எடை) Weight, gravity நிறை. (See சுழிமுனை, and பிங்கலை.) நல்லாரிடைப்புக்கு. Associating with the good. இடைகலை, s. The breath of the left nostril--as சந்திரகலை. See பிங்கலை. இடைக்கட்டு, s. A girdle, sash. 2. The allowance made for the weight of a vessel before weighing any thing in it. இடைக்காடன், s. A Rishi or சித்தன்--one of the eighteen. இடைக்கிடை. Here and there, interspersed, நடுநடுவே. 2. Of like weight, even weight, equilibrium, நிறைக்குநிறை இடைக்குலநாதன், s. Vishnu as brought up by shepherds. இடைக்குறை, s. [in grammar.] A word shortened in the middle, syncope, elision; as ஓதி for ஓந்தி, camelion. (See விகாரம்.) 2. An island, blank space in a river, &c., ஆற்றிடைக்குறை. இடைக்கொள்ளை, s. Pillaging, plunder, free booty, plundering without regard to either party, நடுக்கொள்ளை. 2. (in Agastiar.) The ravages of an epidemic discase, கொள்ளைநோயான்வருமழிவு. இடைசுருங்குபறை, s. A small drum tapering in the middle, உடுக்கை. இடைசூரி, s. [prov.] Gold or silverbeads interspersed here and there between sacred or other beads, உருத்திராக்க முதலியவற்றிற்கிடையிற்கோத்திடுவது. இடைச்சனி--இடையெழுஞ்சனி, s. The eleventh lunar asterism, in which Saturn is considered very malignant. See கடையெழுஞ்சனி and முதலெழுஞ் சனி. இடைச்சன், s. The second child, இரண்டாம்பேறு. (c.) இடைச்சாதி, s. The second or middle tribe of வைசியர்--the third caste. இடைச்சேரி, s. A shepherd's village. இடைத்தட்டு, s. Getting profit indirectly by interposing between parties, &c. or by purchasing goods of one and selling them again from a distance. இடைநடு, s. The middle emphatically (a pleonasm in rhetoric.) இடைநரை, s. Hair or beard growing grey here and there. இடைநிலை, s. In verbs generally, the characteristics of tense, வினையிடைநிலை. 2. A neutral state, neutral or middle state, stagnation in business transactions, இருபுறத்திலுஞ்சாராமனிற்கை. 3. In some compound nouns, one of the component parts, பெயரிடைநிலை. இடைநிலைத்தீபகம், s. One of the beauties of poetry, விளக்கணிமூன்றிலொன்று. See தீபகம். இடைநிலைமயக்கு, s. [in orthography.] The proper combination of letters in the middle of a word, மொழியி லிரண்டெழுத்து மயங்கிநிற்கை--if the same consonant be repeated in the middle of a word, it is called, உடனிலைமெய்மயக்கு; if otherwise, it is called, வேற்றுநிலைமெய்ம யக்கு. இடைநீரினிற்க, inf. [prov.] To swim with the body erect and the water only up to the waist. இடைப்பட, inf. To interpose, happen in the interim, come in, between, among, &c., to happen, இடையிலுண்டாக. இடைப்படுதானம், s. Giving of a secondary order, bestowing through pity on the poor, the blind, மத்திமதானம். இடைப்பழம், s. Ripe fruits interspersed among the unripe. இடைப்பழம்பழுத்தல், v. noun. Ripening as fruits here and there. இடைப்பிறவரல், v. noun. Words intervening between any one word and another with which it makes sense--as between the noun and its attribute, &c., எழுவாய்முதலிய தொடரினுள் இடையிலேற்ற பிற சொல்வரல். இடைப்புழுதி, s. Land in a state for sowing, neither very moist nor very dry, காய்ந்துங்காயாதிருக்கிறபுழுதி. இடைப்புள்ளி, s. Marks scattered here and there--as in tobacco leaves, &c., fruits, &c. இடைப்பூட்டு, s. A truss, girdle, அரைப்பூட்டு. இடைப்போகம், s. An interior crop, out of season, இடையிற்புன்பயிர்விளைவு. இடைமடக்கு, s. Silencing one by vociferation, இடையிற்றடுக்கை. 2. Haughty speaking, இடக்குமடக்கானபேச்சு. 3. [in prosody.] The repetition of a word in the middle of a line with a varied meaning. See மடக்கு. இடைமுள், s. Small, new eruptions about a healing ulcer or bile, மறு முள்பாய்கை. 2. A disease, a kind of eruption, ஓர்கரப்பன். இடைமேடு, s. Rice-land of moderate height, நடுத்தரமானமேடு. இடையற, inf. To cease or terminate suddenly. இடையறாவன்பு, s. Never-ceasing love. இடையன், s. (fem. இடைச்சி.) A shepherd--as occupying a middle position. இடைப்புத்திபிடரியிலே. The shepherds have their wit in their nape; i. e. they have none. இடையன்கால்வெள்ளி, s. [prov.] The star Aldabaran in the constellation Aries, ஓர்விண்மீன். இடையாந்தரம், s. An intermediate space or time. அந்தவேலை யிடையாந்தரத்திலே கெட்டுப்போ யிற்று. The business was interrupted, spoiled in the interim. இடையாயர், s. Persons of a middling class in piety, excellence, &c. See தலை and கடை. இடையிட, inf. To intervene, be interspersed, to have intermediate spaces either of time or place, to intermit, happen intermediately, நடுவிற்றோன்ற. இடையிட்டுவந்தசெல்வம், s. Acquired wealth and prosperity, obtained during life, not derived from ancestors. இடையிட்டெதுகை, s. The எது கை or rhyming of the third letter in every other line. இடையிடை. From time to time, at intervals, intervening space. இடையிலேகொண்டுபோக, inf. To take by theft or force, to plunder fruits, furniture, &c. 2. To take off property at one's death--as persons who are not heirs. 3. To seize and carry off property from one who has stolen it--as a constable from a thief. (c.) இடையிலேவயிறுவளர்க்க, inf. To get a living at the expense of others, not reducing one's own stock. (c.) இடையினவெதுகை, s. One of the இனவெதுகை--that in which the second letter of each line is any of the medial letters. இடையீடு, s. Obstacle, impediment, frustration, விக்கினம். 2. Equivalent, equilibrium, ஈடு. இடையூறு, s. Frustration, interruption, disappointment, obstruction, hinderance, mishap, casualty, contingence, misfortune, disaster, இடர். (c.) இடையெண், s. A poem increasing and decreasing like the waves of the sea, அம்போதரங்கத்தொன்று. இடையொடுகடைமடக்கு, s. A figure in Rhetoric, repetition of a word or phrase in the middle and end of a line with different meanings, மடக்கணியி லொன்று. இடைவழக்கு, s. [prov.] A suit at law instituted by a new claimant while the previous one is going forward, கிளை வழக்கு. இடைவழக்காளி, s. An intervening party in a law-suit. இடைவழி, s. Midway. இடைவள்ளல், s. A term common to the second of the three classes of kings famed for liberality. (p.) இடைவாய், s. The degrees marked upon a steel-yard. இடைவிட, inf. To intermit, suspend, interrupt, leave intermissions, interstices, &c. இடைவிட்டுவிட்டு. Every other one. இடைவிடாமழை, s. Incessant rain. இடைவிடாமல், neg. v. part. Incessantly, constantly, without intermission. இடைவெட்டுப்பணம், s. A clipped or imperfectly stamped coin, மாறுமத் திரைவிழுந்தபணம். 2. [prov.] Profit made indirectly, பொறுக்கியெடுத்தபணம். இடைவெட்டுப்பேச்சு, s. Derision, ridicule. இடைவெளி, s. An intervening space, நடுவெளி. எட்கிடை--எள்ளிடை, s. The thickness of a rape-seed. (c.) நான்குவிரற்கிடை--நான்குவிரலி டை. Four fingers-breadth, thickness. முதலிடைகடை, Beginning, middle and end. 104)

kāntāri (p. 104) s. One of the ten நாடி veins or nerves, said to extend from the navel to the throat, தசநாடியில்ஒன்று. (சது.) Other authorities say--from சுழிமுனை to the eyes. 2. A tune ஓர்பண். 3. A kind of salt of a burning and acrid nature, சத்தி சாரம். 43)

kuku (p. 114) s. The moon on the first day of the first quarter when it rises scarcely visible in the East. 2. The hoot of an owl. கூகையொலி. (p.) Wils. p. 238. KUHU. 3. See நாடி. தசப்பிராதுற்பவம், s. prov. more properly. தசபிராதுர்ப்பாவம்.] A poem in the ஆசிரியவிருத்தம் verse, celebrating the ten incarnations of Vishnu, உற்பவமாலை. தசப்பொருத்தம்--கலியாணப்பொருத் தம்--மணப்பொருத்தம். s. [in astrol.] Ten points in which there should be agreement in the horoscope of the bride and bridegroom. 1. நாள், in the lunar asterism or lunar day of birth. 2. கணம், in the three-fold division of the lunar asterisms, தேவர், இராட்சதர், and மனிதர், nine being ascribed to each, and a preference given where both are not in the same division. 3. மாகேந்திரம், in the rising sign, and the fourth, seventh or tenth. (See கேந்தி ரம்.) 4. திரிதீர்க்கம், in the asterism at the birth of the bridegroom which should be above that of the bride. 5. யோனி, in genital characteristics, ascribed to the lunar constellations. 6. இராசி, in the zodiacal signs, in which after the sixth of the bridegroom, his should be above the bride's. 7. அதிபதி, in the rulers of the signs which are the seven planets. 8. வசியம், in the respective zodiacal signs one with another. 9. வேதம், தாலிப்பொருத்தம் or மங்கிலியக்கயிறு, in the astrological circles, in no one of which should both be found. 1. இரச்சு, in lines drawn across the circles in any one of which, both persons should not be found. தசப்பொருத்தம்--செய்யுட்பொருத்தம், s. See செய்யுள். தசமம், s. [prop. தசமஸ்கந்தம்.] The tenth book of Bhagavata. தசமபாகம், s. The tenth part. (Colloq.) தசமி, s. The tenth phase of the moon, in the increase or decrease, பத்தாந் திதி. W. p. 42. DASAMIN. தசமுகன், s. Ravana as the ten-faced. இராவணன். தசமூலம், s. A tonic medicament prepared from the roots of ten plants, ஒர்மருந்து. See மூலம். தசரதன், s. The name of an ancient king of Oude, the father of Rama, whose car bore him to any of the ten points, இராமன்பிதா; (ex தசம் et ரதம்.] தசவாயு, s. The ten vital airs supposed to be in the human body. தசாங்கம், s. The ten constituents of a kingdom. 2. The ten parts of a panegyric poem; [ex அங்கம்.] --Note. The constituents of a kingdom are: 1. மலை, mountain. 2. ஆறு, rivers. 3. நாடு, agricultural districts. 4. ஊர், towns 5. மாலை, garlands. 6. பரி, horse. 7. கரி, elephants. 8. முரசு, drums. 9. கொடி, flags or banners. 1. செங்கோல், scepter. தசாங்கத்தயல், s. A poem as தசாங் கப்பத்து. in ஆசிரியவிருத்தம் verse. தசாங்கப்பத்து, s. A poem in நேரி சைவெண்பா verse, celebrating the ten appendages of royalty, ஓர்பிரபந்தம். தசாமிசம்-தசாம்ஸம், s. Decimal fractions; [ex அமிசம்.] தசாவஸ்தை, s. Ten pains, symptoms of death. (See அவஸ்தை.) 2. [in lore poetry.] Ten kinds of விரகாவஸ்தை, which see. தசாவதாரம், s. The ten incarnations of Vishnu. See திருமாலவதாரம். தசேந்திரியம், s. The ten organs, viz.; five கன்மேந்திரியம் and five ஞானேந்திரியம். See இந்திரியம். 29)

nāṭi (p. 273) s. W. p. 46. NADI. Pulse especially at the wrist, sometimes at the foot, தாது. 2. An Indian hour of twentyfour minutes, நாழிகை. (c.) 3. An artery, a vein, tendon, sinew, muscle, nerve, ligament, நரம்பு. 4. String of a guitar, யாழ் நரம்பு. 5. Any thing tubular, tube, pipe, tupularity, உட்டுளை. 6. Nose, மூக்கு. 7. A man's lock of hair, ஆண்மயிர். (சது.) 8. The hollow stalk of the lotus, தாமரைத்தாள்.-There are three varieties of pluse; 1. வாத நாடி, indicating acid humors, hypochondria, &c., and felt by the fore-finger. 2. பித்தநாடி, indicating billous humors, felt by the second finger. 3. சிலேட்டுமநாடி, indicating phlegmatic humors, felt by the third finger,--Note. In healthy persons, cach நாடி is supposed to be prevalent for ten நாழிகை, or four hours of the day and night alike, beginning from sunrise and from sunset; any derangement of these is regarded as indicative of disease. தசநாடி, s. The ten nerves are: 1. சுழிமுனை, passing through the six ஆதாரம்; 2. இடை. beginning from the great toe of the right foot and passing up to the left nostril; 3. பிங்கலை, beginning from the great toe of the left foot, and passing up to the right nostril, crossing each other in five different places; 4. காந்தாரி, beginning at the navel and passing to the neck, where they assume a seven-fold form, being the sources of the seven musical tones of the human voice; 5. அத்தி; 6. சிகுவை, situated in the region of the eyes forming ten branches, as optical nerves; 7. அலம் புடை. 8. புருடன், in the region of the ears forming 12 branches or auditory nerves; 9. குரு, beginning at the navel and reaching to the verenda; 1. சங்கி னி, situated in the verenda,--Note. There are said to be 72, pulses in the body. அவன் ஓடிப்பாடி நாடியிலடங்கினான். His power, and bustle, have come to an end said of an extravagant person reduce to poverty. நாடிக்குறி, s. Indication of the pulse. நாடிதாரணை, s. The system of nerves and arteries with their ramifications. நாடிநிலை, s. State of the pulse. நாடிபார்க்க, inf. To feel the pulse. See தாதுபார்க்க. நாடிபரீட்சை, s. Acquainted with the pulse. நாடியறிய, inf. To be acquainted with the system of pulsation in its threefold variety. நாடியெழும்புதல், v. noun. Rising of the pulse. நாடியொடுக்கம்--நாடிவிழுந்துபோதல், v. noun. Sinking of the pulse. நாடியோட்டம், v. noun. The beating of the pulse, pulsation. 2. The state of the pulse. நாடிவிதி, s. A vessel of the body, the right of the three canals which pass from the os coccygis to the head, and right nostril, being the chief passage of breath and air, according to the yoga philosophy.--This is called the solar nerve or vessel.
