Yellow orpiment. தாளம், 5, The five modes of time in beating the cymbal. 1. சச்சற்புடம், consisting of மாத்திரை 8, or eight measures in beating, viz. குரு. 2, two குரு, or four மாத்திரை; இலகு, 1, or one மாத்திரை; and புலு தம், 1, one புலுதம், or three மாத்திரை. It is considered to have its origin in the last of the five faces of ஈசன், Isa, called சத்தி யோசாதம், and is of the brahman caste, பிரமசாதி. 2. சாசற்புடம், consisting of மாத்தி ரை, 1, or six measures, viz.: குரு, 1, or two மாத்திரை; இலகு, 2 or two மாத்திரை; and குரு, 2, or two மாத்திரை. It is said to be derived from the fourth face of Isa called வாமமுகம், and is of the Raja caste. அரசசாதி. 3. சட்பிதாபுத்திரிகம், consisting of மாத்திரை. 12, or twleve measures; viz.: புலுதம், 1 one pulutam, or three measures; இலகு, 1 one ilagu, or one measure; குரு, 2, two kurus, or four measures; இலகு, 1 one ilagu, one measure; and புலுதம், 1, one pulutam or three measures. Its origin is derived from Isa's third face called அகோரமுகம், and is of the Vaisya caste, வைசியசாதி. 4. சம்பத்துவேட்டம், consisting of twelve measures, or மாத்திரை, 12, viz.: புலுதம், 1, three measures; குரு, 1, three kurus, or six measures; புலுதம். 1, or three measures. Its origin is derived from Isa's second face, called தற்புருடம், and is of the Sudra caste, சூத்திரசாதி. 5. உற்கடிதம், consisting of six measures, or மாத்திரை, 1, viz.: குரு, 1 three kurus, or six measures. Its origin is derived from Isa's first face called ஈசானமுகம், and is of the mixed caste, சங்கிரமசாதி, or சங்கர சாதி. தாளம், 7, or சத்ததாளம். The seven modes of time, in singing; and the seven notes, or seven tunes, in music. 1. துரு வம், consisting of one இலகு, or one மாத்தி ரை, of one குரு or two மாத்திரை, and one துரிதம், or a half மாத்திரை. The notes belonging to it are சரிகம, கரிசரி கரிசரி and கம. 2. மட்டியம், consisting of one இலகு. one துரிதம், and of one இலகு. The notes belonging to it are சரிகரி, சரி, and சரிகம. 3. உரூபகம், consisting of one இலகு and one துரிதம். The notes belonging to it are சரி and சரிகம. 4. சம்பை, consisting of one இலகு, one அநுதுரிதம், or the fourth part of a மாத்திரை, and one துரிதம். The notes belonging to it are, ச, ரிக and சரிசரி கமா. 5. திரிபுடை, consisting of three துரிதம் and one அநுதுரிதம். The notes belonging to it are சரிகசரிகம. 6. அடதாளம், consisting of one இலகு, two துரிதம், and one இலகு. The notes are சரிகா, சாரிகா, மா, மா. 7. ஏகதாளம், consisting of one இலகு. The notes are சரிகம. தாளம், 9, or நவசந்திதாளம்.
