Mental assignment of the hand, &c., to a tutelary divinity, as practised by the workshippers of Siva and Vishnu, by touching the joints of the fingers, with the thumb while repeating incantations in the daily worship. கரபரிசம், s. Touch of the hand, கையினாற்றொடுகை. கரபாத்திரம், s. Receiving food in charity in the hollow of the hands joined together which are used instead of a vessel, as practised by some ascetics, கையாகியபாத்திரம். Wils. p. 192. KARAPATRA.. கரபாத்திரமெடுக்க, inf. To beg alms receiving them with joined hands. கரப்பொறி, s. A kind of trap used to catch monkeys, &c., ஓர்பொறி. கரமுகன், s. Ganesa, விநாயகன். கரலட்சணம், s. The mode of using the hands in dancing which are of twenty-three kinds, viz.: 1. பதாகை, stretching all the five fingers keeping them close and straight. 2. திரிபதாகை, bending the thumb and ring-finger and stretching the rest. 3. பிறை, keeping the other four fingers close together separately from the thumb. 4. சர்ப்பசிரம், keeping the palm of the hand curved. 5. சாளையம், bending the little finger and ring-finger and stretching the rest. 6. மான்றலை, keeping the middle three fing ers down and lifting the other two up. 7. பதுமகோசரம், keeping up the palm of the hand opened having the fingers bent. 8. சிலீமுகம், keeping the tip of the forefinger at the bottom of the thumb and the tips of each of the rest at the middle of the adjoining finger. 9. முட்டி, folding all the four fingers and keeping the thumb above the middle finger. 1. சிக ரம், folding all the other fingers and keeping the thumb stretched. 11. சூசி, stretching the pointing finger and keeping the thumb curved while the others are folded. 12. கபித்தம், keeping the tips of the thumb and fore-finger close together and the other folded. 13. கடகம், keeping the tips of the thumb and forefinger together, the middle finger bent and the rest stretched. 14. சந்தங்கிஷம், keeping the tips of the thumb and pointing finger together, stretching the rest. 15. அஞ்சவாய், keeping the ringfinger and little finger separately stretched up and keeping the tips of the rest together. 16. முகிழ், keeping the tips of all the fingers together. 17. திரிலிங்கம், keeping the tips of the thumb and pointing finger together, the rest curved and the wrist a little bent. 18. மிருகசிரம், stretching up the pointing finger and the little finger and keeping the rest close together. 19. சிங்கநகம், keeping up the palm of the hand having the fingers almost folded. 2. கூர்மம், stretching up the middle finger while the others are bent down. 21. பூரணம், stretching all the five fingers straight not being close together. 22. மென்னிலை, bending the thumb and stretching up the rest. 23. முன்னதம், separating the fore-finger from the rest. கரவாளம், s. A sword, கைவாள். கராசலம், s. An elephant--as having a mountain (its body) connected with its trunk, யானை. கராசனம், s. A tiger, as resting on its paws, புலி. 83)

tiri (p. 239) --திரீ, s. A woman, wife. See ஸ்திரீ. திரிகடகசங்கலிதம், s. The summation of சங்கலிதம், சங்கலிதசங்கலிதம், and வர்க்க சங்கலிதம். திரிகடுகம்--திரிகடுகு, s. The three special stimulants. (See கடுகம்.) 2. A poem in which each verse has three things for its theme, முச்சொல்லலங்காரம்-as ஆறுநேராகிவூரும் அரசனோடேறுமாறானகுடியும் புருஷனோடுதாறுமாறானமனைவியும்இம்மூன்றும்நீறுநீறா கிவிடும், a town near a river, subjects in rebellion against their king, a wife disobedient to her husband; these three will go to ashes. திரிகண்டகம், s. A three thorned plant, நெஞ்சில், Tribulus, L. திரிகத்தம், s. A country, in the northwest of India, apparently part of Lahore, ஓர்தேயம். (Sa. Trigartta.) திரிகந்தம், s. The three aromatics. Trigonometry; [ex மிதி, measure, knowledge.] திரிசங்கு, s. The name of a king, ஓரர சன். திரிசங்குமண்டலம், s. The constellation named after திரிசங்கு, the father of அரிச்சந்திரன், being the southern cross. திரிசா, s. Tabular radius. (Sa. Trijya.) திரிசாரம், s. The three kinds of salt, viz.: 1. Solder, நவக்ஷாரம். 2. Alkaline salt, எவக்ஷாரம். 3. Another kind of salt, சத்திசாரம். திருசிரபுரம்--திரிசிராப்பள்ளி, s. Trichinopoly, so called, it is said, from a Rakshasa who first dwelt in the place, and had three heads. திரிசூலம், s. The trident, முத்தலைவேல். See பினாகம். திருச்சிரமம், s. The three daily devotional exercises, முக்காலானுட்டானம். திரிதண்டம்--திரிதண்டு, s. Three staves in one, carried by a Vaishnuva mendicant. திரிதண்டசந்நியாசி, s. See சன்னியாசி. திரிதண்டி, s. As திரிதண்டசந்நியாசி. appel. n. An ascetic who has acquired the command over his mind, body and speech, கரணமூன்றுமடக்கினோன். திரிதிகை--திரிதியை, s. The third day of the moon, either in its increase or decrease, மூன்றாந்திதி. திரிதீர்க்கம், s. One of the ten points in the horoscope of the bride and the bridegroom. See தசப்பொருத்தம். திரிதேகம், s. Three kinds of bodies. See சரீரத்திரயம். திரிதோஷம், s. The three humors of the body, முப்பிணி. 2. Vitiation of the three humors, as the cause of diseases, ஓர்நோய். திரிதோஷசன்னி, s. A fit from the above disease. திரித்துவம்--திரியத்துவம், s. (Chris. usage.) The Trinity. திரிநேத்திரன், s. Siva, the three-eyed, சிவன். Compare முக்கண்ணன். திரிபங்கி, s. A curiously wrought poem, one of the மிறைக்கவி, a stanza which may be turned into three others, and give three different meanings. See சித் திரகவி. திரிபதார்த்தம், s. The three eternal unoriginated things in the universe. as treated of in the சித்தாந்தம் philosophy, viz.: 1. பசு, soul; 2. பதி, deity; 3. பாசம், natural or moral evil. Among Vedantists சித்து, அசித்து, ஈச்சுரன். திரிபதகை, s. The Ganges, fancied to run through three worlds கங்கை. திரிபதாகி, s. One of the மிறைக்கவி, or curious poems. திரிபதாகை, s. A mode of using the hands in dancing. See காலட்சணம். திரிபலம்--திரிபலை, s. The three Myrobalan or medicinal fruits, often used in Indian medicines, 1. கடுக்காய், gallnuts, Terminalia chebula; 2. நெல்லிக் காய், Phyllanthus emblica; 3. தான்றிக்காய், Terminalia bellerica. திரிபலையேனாதி, s. An electuary compounded of the three fruits and other ingredients. திரிபழுகம், s. The three delicacies, milk, பால்; clarified butter, நெய்; and honey, தேன். திரிபாகி, s. One of the மிறைக்கவி, a curious poem in which a word of three letters when taken regularity gives one meaning, and when the first, second or third letter is taken away will give in each case a different meaning. திரிபுசம், s. Triangle. (Sa. Tribhaja.) திரிபுடி, s. The three qualities, 1. ஞாதுரு, soul, ஆன்மா; 2. ஞானம், wisdom. knowledge, அறிவு; 3. ஞேயம், that which is known, அறியப்படுபொருள். திரிபுடை--திரிபுடைதாளம், s. A mode of beating time, &c. திரிபுண்டரம், s. The three lined mark of the Saiva sect, three streaks of ashes on the forehead, நெற்றியில்விபூதி. திரிபுரம், s. [in mythol.] The three cities, or castles, severally of iron, silver, and gold, floating in the sky one above another; destroyed by Siva for embracing the Jaina tenets, முப்புரம். The chiefs of the castles were, கமலன், கமலாட் சன், and விச்சுவமாலி. திரிபுரசுந்தரி, s. Parvati, பார்வதி. திரிபுரதகனன், s. (St.) Siva, சிவன்; [ex தகனன், who burnt.] திரிபுரமல்லிகை, s. (St.) A medicinal plant, apparently a kind of jasmine. திரிபுரமெரித்தான், appel. n. Siva, who burnt and destroyed திரிபுரம், சிவன். 2. A tree, நொச்சி, Vitex. 3. The மாவிலிங்கு tree. திரிபுராந்தகன், s. Siva, as destroyer of the three cities, சிவன்; [ex அந்தகன்.] திரிபுரி, s. A plant. See சாரணை. (R.) திரிபுரை, s. Parvati, பார்வதி; [ex புரம், town. திரிபுவனம், s. The three worlds. See திரிலோகம். திரிமஞ்சள், s. The three kinds of மஞ் சள், 1. Turmeric, மஞ்சள்; 2. Amomum, கஸ்தூரிமஞ்சள்; 3. A medicinal wood, மர மஞ்சள். திரிமனம், s. The three faculties of the soul. 1. நினைவு, thought; 2. புத்தி, understanding; 3. அறிவு, knowledge. திரிமூர்த்தி, s. The Indian triad, Brahma, Vishnu and Siva. திரிமூலம், s. Three kinds of medicinal roots, 1. திப்பிலிமூலம், of long-pepper; 2. சித்திரமூலம், of plumbago; 3. கண்டு மூலம், of a medicinal plant. திரியத்துவம்--திரியேகத்துவம்--திரியே கம். s. (Chris. usage.) Triune, trinity. திரியம்பகன், s. Siva, as the threeeyed, சிவன்; sometimes Vishnu; [ex அம் பகம், eye.] திரியவத்தை--திரியாவஸ்தை, The Three states of the mind. See அவத்தை. திரியாங்கம், s. A calendar embracing three parts or members, out of the five given in the native calendars; viz.: திதி, வாரம், நட்சத்திரம். See பஞ்சாங்கம். திருயேககடவுள்--திரியேகன், s. (Chris. usage.) God the Father, the son, and the Holy Ghost, which three are one. திரிலிங்கம், s. A mode of using the hands in dancing. (See காலட்சணம்.) 2. [in gram.] The three genders, 1. புல்லிங் கம், the masculine; 2. ஸ்திரீலிங்கம், the feminine; 3. நபுஞ்சலிங்கம், the neuter. திரிலோகம், s. The three worlds--the earth, the etherial regions, and the world of the gods, பூமி, அந்தரம், சுவர்க்கம். 2. Three metals--gold, பொன், silver, வெள்ளி, and copper, செம்பு. திரிலோகசிந்தூரம், s. A chemical preparation of three metals--of load-stone, iron and copper; or gold, silver and copper, ஓர்மருந்து. திரிலோகாதிபதி, s. Indra, இந்திரன். திரிலோகி, s. A plant, விஷ்ணுகரந்தை. (R.) திரிவிக்கிரமன், s. Vishnu, as striding over two worlds at two steps, and crushing the giant Bali to the nether regions by the third, விஷ்ணு. W. p. 391. TRIVIKRAMA. திரிவிதகரணம், s. See கரணம். திரிவிதசரீரம், s. The three kinds of body, ஸ்தூலம், சூட்சுமம் and கரணம். திரிவேணி--திரிவேணிசங்கமம், s. The confluence of three sacred rivers near Benares, a place of great resort for bathing, &c., கங்கை, யமுனை, சரசுவதி; என்னு மூன்றாறுகளுங்கூடுமிடம். See சங்கமம். 39)
