tiri (p. 239) --திரீ, s. A woman, wife. See ஸ்திரீ. திரிகடகசங்கலிதம், s. The summation of சங்கலிதம், சங்கலிதசங்கலிதம், and வர்க்க சங்கலிதம். திரிகடுகம்--திரிகடுகு, s. The three special stimulants. (See கடுகம்.) 2. A poem in which each verse has three things for its theme, முச்சொல்லலங்காரம்-as ஆறுநேராகிவூரும் அரசனோடேறுமாறானகுடியும் புருஷனோடுதாறுமாறானமனைவியும்இம்மூன்றும்நீறுநீறா கிவிடும், a town near a river, subjects in rebellion against their king, a wife disobedient to her husband; these three will go to ashes. திரிகண்டகம், s. As திரிதண்டசந்நியாசி. appel. n. An ascetic who has acquired the command over his mind, body and speech, கரணமூன்றுமடக்கினோன். திரிதிகை--திரிதியை, s. The third day of the moon, either in its increase or decrease, மூன்றாந்திதி. திரிதீர்க்கம், s. One of the ten points in the horoscope of the bride and the bridegroom. See தசப்பொருத்தம். திரிதேகம், s. A curiously wrought poem, one of the மிறைக்கவி, a stanza which may be turned into three others, and give three different meanings. See சித் திரகவி. திரிபதார்த்தம், s. The three eternal unoriginated things in the universe. as treated of in the சித்தாந்தம் philosophy, viz.: 1. பசு, soul; 2. பதி, deity; 3. பாசம், natural or moral evil. Among Vedantists சித்து, அசித்து, ஈச்சுரன். திரிபதகை, s. The Ganges, fancied to run through three worlds கங்கை. திரிபதாகி, s. One of the மிறைக்கவி, or curious poems. திரிபதாகை, s. A mode of using the hands in dancing. See காலட்சணம். திரிபலம்--திரிபலை, s. The three Myrobalan or medicinal fruits, often used in Indian medicines, 1. கடுக்காய், gallnuts, Terminalia chebula; 2. நெல்லிக் காய், Phyllanthus emblica; 3. தான்றிக்காய், Terminalia bellerica. திரிபலையேனாதி, s. An electuary compounded of the three fruits and other ingredients. திரிபழுகம், s. The three delicacies, milk, பால்; clarified butter, நெய்; and honey, தேன். திரிபாகி, s. One of the மிறைக்கவி, a curious poem in which a word of three letters when taken regularity gives one meaning, and when the first, second or third letter is taken away will give in each case a different meaning. திரிபுசம், s. Triangle. (Sa. Tribhaja.) திரிபுடி, s. The three qualities, 1. ஞாதுரு, soul, ஆன்மா; 2. ஞானம், wisdom. knowledge, அறிவு; 3. ஞேயம், that which is known, அறியப்படுபொருள். திரிபுடை--திரிபுடைதாளம், s. A mode of beating time, &c. திரிபுண்டரம், s. The three lined mark of the Saiva sect, three streaks of ashes on the forehead, நெற்றியில்விபூதி. திரிபுரம், s. [in mythol.] The three cities, or castles, severally of iron, silver, and gold, floating in the sky one above another; destroyed by Siva for embracing the Jaina tenets, முப்புரம். The chiefs of the castles were, கமலன், கமலாட் சன், and விச்சுவமாலி. திரிபுரசுந்தரி, s. Parvati, பார்வதி. திரிபுரதகனன், s. (St.) Siva, சிவன்; [ex தகனன், who burnt.] திரிபுரமல்லிகை, s. (St.) A medicinal plant, apparently a kind of jasmine. திரிபுரமெரித்தான், appel. n. Siva, who burnt and destroyed திரிபுரம், சிவன். 2. A tree, நொச்சி, Vitex. 3. Triune, trinity. திரியம்பகன், s. Siva, as the threeeyed, சிவன்; sometimes Vishnu; [ex அம் பகம், eye.] திரியவத்தை--திரியாவஸ்தை, The Three states of the mind. See அவத்தை. திரியாங்கம், s. A calendar embracing three parts or members, out of the five given in the native calendars; viz.: திதி, வாரம், நட்சத்திரம். See பஞ்சாங்கம். திருயேககடவுள்--திரியேகன், s. (Chris. usage.) God the Father, the son, and the Holy Ghost, which three are one. திரிலிங்கம், s. A mode of using the hands in dancing. (See காலட்சணம்.) 2. [in gram.] The three genders, 1. புல்லிங் கம், the masculine; 2. ஸ்திரீலிங்கம், the feminine; 3. நபுஞ்சலிங்கம், the neuter. திரிலோகம், s. The three worlds--the earth, the etherial regions, and the world of the gods, பூமி, அந்தரம், சுவர்க்கம். 2. Three metals--gold, பொன், silver, வெள்ளி, and copper, செம்பு. திரிலோகசிந்தூரம், s. A chemical preparation of three metals--of load-stone, iron and copper; or gold, silver and copper, ஓர்மருந்து. திரிலோகாதிபதி, s. Indra, இந்திரன். திரிலோகி, s. A plant, விஷ்ணுகரந்தை. (R.) திரிவிக்கிரமன், s. Vishnu, as striding over two worlds at two steps, and crushing the giant Bali to the nether regions by the third, விஷ்ணு. W. p. 391. TRIVIKRAMA. திரிவிதகரணம், s. mñcḷ (p. 339) s. Indian saffron, long-rooted turmeric, அரித்திரம், Curcuma longa.--Ofturmeric are different kinds, as கஸ்தூரிமஞ்சள், Amomum, L; கப்புமஞ்சள், கொச்சிமஞ்சள், a superior kind from Cochin; கறிமஞ்சள், another kind used for curries; கிழங்குமஞ்சள், turmeric with round roots; விரலிமஞ்சள், that with slender roots; மரமஞ்சள், a tree and its root so called, very bitter, and medicinal. See திரிமஞ்சள். (c.) மஞ்சட்பாவாடைபோர்த்துக்கொள்ளுகிறது. Putting on a saffron-colored cloth, a religious ceremony. மஞ்சட்கடம்பு, s. A tree, Nanclea cordifolia. மஞ்சட்கரு, s. The yolk of an egg. See கரு. மஞ்சட்கல், s. A kind of mineral. See கொடுங்கோபிச்சிலை. மஞ்சட்காப்பு, s. A spot of turmeric paste on the forehead, a charm. 2. See under, கா, v. மஞ்சட்காமாலை, s. A kind of jaundice, causing yellowness of the eyes. மஞ்சட்காளான், s. A yellow kind of mushroom. மஞ்சட்கொத்து, s. A bunch of turmeric-root, and leaves. மஞ்சட்சாமந்தி--மஞ்சட்செவ்வந்தி, s. A species of சாமந்தி with yellow flowers. மஞ்சட்டிரளை, s. Balls of turmeric taken by a widow to the funeral pile and given to relations, in token of her blessing; [ex திரளை.] மஞ்சட்டுணி, s. [vul. மஞ்சத்துணி.] A little piece of cloth dipped in turmeric water and applied to a sore eye. மஞ்சட்டேறு, s. A root of turmeric. See தேறு. மஞ்சட்பட்டு, s. Saffron-colored silk. மஞ்சட்பாவட்டை, s. A shrub, Red dye-root, Morinda citrifolia. மஞ்சணத்தி--மஞ்சணாற்றி, s. A kind of tree. See மஞ்சணுணா. மஞ்சணிறம், s. Yellow color. மஞ்சணீர், s. Turmeric-water with other ingredients for sprinkling on a company at the close of a temple-festival, or marriage; [ex நீர்.] மஞ்சணீர்குடித்தல், v. noun. Drinking turmeric water, in adopting a child. மஞ்சணீர்ச்சீட்டு, s. A written agreement of adoption. தத்தபுத்திரஉடன்படிக்கை. மஞ்சணீர்ப்பிள்ளை, s. An adopted child. மஞ்சணீர்விளையாட்டு--மஞ்சள்விளையா ட்டு, s. Play with turmeric-water, at the close of a temple-festival, or at a marriage.--Note. Lime is often added to heighten the color, and cause mischief. மஞ்சணுணா--மஞ்சணத்தி--மஞ்சணாற்றி, s. A kind of நுணா tree, the timber of which is a bright yellow. மஞ்சணை, s. [contr. of மஞ்சள்நெய்.] Red paint with oil smeared by females, எண்ணெய்க்குங்குமம். [Southern usage.] மஞ்சளலரி, s. A species of அலரி. மஞ்சளாலாத்தி, s. The ceremony of waving turmeric-water about an idol, to dispel the blight of unlucky eyes. மஞ்சளிளங்கலையன், s. [prov.] A kind of rice. See இளங்கலையன். மஞ்சளெண்ணெய், s. Turmeric-oil, used medicinally. மஞ்சள்பூசுதல், inf. [v. noun மஞ்சட்பூ ச்சு.] To smear the person with turmeric water--as females, for beauty or good luck. மஞ்சள்மந்தாரை, s. A மந்தாரை shrub. மஞ்சள்வசந்தம், s. A joyful ceremony, in which turmeric is used, ஓர்சடங்கு. மஞ்சள்வாடை, s.
