nl (p. 270) --நல்ல, adj. [in combin. before க, ச, த, ப. changed to ற் and commonly before ம to ன்.] Good, excellent, beneficial, eminent, நன்மையான. 2. Acceptable, desirable, agreeable, ஏற்ற. 3. Abundant, copious, மிகுந்த. 4. Much, intence, அதிகமான. 5. Auspicious, propitious, fortunate, நன்னிமித்தமுள்ள.--Note. It is sometimes combined with words of had meaning to show intensity, as நல்லகள் ளன், a consummate thief. நல்லகாயம், s. Severe wound. நல்லகாய், s. Abundant fruit, மிகுகாய். இந்ததடவைநல்லகாய். The crop of fruit this time is abundant. நல்லகாலம், s. A propitious time; also நற்காலம். நல்லகுணம், s. Good temper, a benevolent, amiable disposition; also நற்குணம். நல்லகுணத்தோடேகொடு. Give, or pay freely. நல்லசடம், s. A helthy constitution, சுகசரீரம். நல்லசமயம், s. A good season, a favorable opportunity. நல்லசரக்கு, s. Superior goods, &c. See நற்சரக்கு. நல்லசனனம், s. A good birth. (Meton.) One blessed with a tendency to freedom form transmigration, and who employs his birth, to obtain salvation. நல்லசா, s. A good or auspicious death; not untimely, &c.; also நற்சா. நல்லசாமம், s. Midnight, dead of night, நடுச்சாமம். நல்லசெய்கை, s. A good, approved, or virtuous action. நல்லஞாபகம், s. As நல்லநினைப்பு. நல்லதண்ணீர்--நல்லசலம், s. Fresh, potable water. நல்லதண்ணீர்க்கடல், s. The sea of fresh water. நல்லதம்பிரான், s. [prov.] The hooded snake, regarded as a deity, நல்லபாம்பு. நல்லதரம், s. The first quality. நல்லதனம், s. Friendly, words, mildness, &c. நல்லதனம்பண்ண, inf. To pacify. நல்லது, appel. n. [pl. நல்லவை.] That which is good, well, very well, நன்மை யானது. நல்லதுசொல்ல, inf. To speak in one's favor. 2. To speak kindly. 3. To bid farewell. நல்லதுதீயது--நல்லதுபொல்லாதது, appel. n. Any thing good or evil. நல்லதுபண்ண, inf. To reconcile, gain one's friendship, make friends with one, propitiate one. நல்லதேட்டம், s. Acquisition of property by fair means. நியாயமானசம்பாத்தி யம். 2. Seeking benefits for the soul. ஆத்துமார்த்தம். நல்லத்தை, s. Father's sister. நல்லநடத்தை, s. Good deportment, virtuous conduct. நல்லநாள், s. An auspicious day. நல்லநாள்பெருநாள். A great day, a holy day. நல்லநினைப்பு, s. A good memory. நல்லபழக்கம், s. Good customs, habits, &c. நல்லபாம்பு, s. The female cobra-decapella, a very poisonous snake; the male is called சாரை and is nearly harmless. நல்லபிறப்பு, s. As நல்லசனனம். நல்லபுத்தி, s. Good atate of mind, good sense, good feeling, good understanding; also நற்புத்தி. 2. Polities; prudential, discreet measures; good policy. விவேகம். 3. Good instruction or advice, நற்போதனை. நல்லப்பன், s. [prov.] A paternal uncle. தகப்பனோடுகூடப்பிறந்தவன்; a domestic term. நல்லமத்தியானம், s. Exactly moon. நல்லமரணம்--நன்மரணம், s. See நல்லசா. நல்லமழை, s. Plentiful rain. நல்லமனம், s. A benevolent mind, நன்மனது. 2. Good temper, amiable disposition, a well disposed mind, நற்குணம். 3. Candor; தூயசிந்தை; also நன்மனம். நல்லமாரி, s. [prov.] A good, rainy season. நல்லமுகங்காட்ட, inf. To show a friendly face. நல்லமுட்டாள், s. A blockhead, மந் தன். 2. A hasty, peevish, irritable person, மடையன். நல்லமுருங்கை, s. Hyperanthera, Moringa, whose leaves and fruits are edible. நல்லமை, s. [prov.] Goodness, merit, virtue, நற்குணம். 2. Kindness, civility, friendliness. See நன்மை. நல்லம்மாள், s.
